bunbury margins

West Australian Racing
for those that care about such things.
bunbury margins yesterday are up that creek
i checked times for runners of first few races and they are fine.
what is not fine is the margins derived from same.
so if you rely on margins then beware
the 'timemargin' column will be the most correct, where the 'margin' column is the official
usually i will get one or two horse that don't fit the parameters, but yesterday, all those!
maybe the judge was partaking of the festivities

so it has happened again yesterday.
whoever does the margins at bunbury, is out of step with other joints.
they are as far as 1 length wrong yesterday, and that is a long way.
and in all cases, the given margin is LESS than the actual margin.

it's obvious what is happening, well to me anyway.
all margins these days are derived from the times.
wa had been using .16 seconds per length or thereabouts.
so if you were beaten 1 second then you would get a margin of 6.25 lengths rounded( 1/.16 = 6.25)

but bunbury appears to be using a different conversion factor(.17 or more) this season
so if you are beaten 1 second at bunbury, instead of being given a margin of 6.25lengths. you will be given something like.....1 /.17 =  5.75(rounded) or less.

so it amounts to 6.25 lengths elsewhere, being only 5.75 at bunbury.
approximate because wa does not use decimal lengths....they go by .25 increments except for the margins that are tiny, so already they are inaccurate to a degree, and now we have bunbury magnifying that inaccuracy.

it's not good enough in this day and age.

    Great stuff Carey =D>

I'd go mad trying to do what you do. Then again, the missus reckons that's already happened

i pick all this stuff up automatically, i don't really have any input(other than i wrote the computer software that does it)
i just add the data, and my computer tells me when there is bullchit happening.
