8. Old Cobber Peter Knuckey 59kg 9
9. Haulpaks Image Troy Pike 59kg 10
10. Meliador John Wilson Snr 59kg 6
11. Palatious Dennis Gundry 54.5kg 7
12. Mirror Magic Troy Jackman 54.5kg 12
13. Old Money Alana Sansom 47.5kg 8

1. Mr Moet (Mosayter - Marlock Miss)
2400m: 1 Start: 0-1-0
Ascot 2400m: 1 Start: 0-1-0
Comment: A winner of the Cox Stakes when this race was reduced to 2100m however he has form at 2400m with this 2nd placing in the 2013 Perth Cup with 59kg. Will be rattling home late in the straight. Add in trifectas and quartets.

2. God Has Spoken (Blackfriars - Dolly Will Do)
2400m: 4 Starts: 0-1-0
Ascot 2400m: 4 Starts: 0-1-0
Comment: Won this race when the distance was reduced to 2100m. The 2400m won't be a problem with a 2nd placing in the Perth Cup of 2011. On his day he is capable of winning this. Place chance at best.

3. Gilded Venom (Golden Snake - Daughters Charm)
2400m: 0 Starts: 0-0-0
Ascot 2400m: 0 Starts: 0-0-0
Comment: Talented horse who also won the Cox Stakes at the reduced distance of 2100m. First attempt at the 2400m and on class the extra 300m shouldn't bother him. Keep safe.

4. Scenic Shot (Scenic - Sweepshot)
2400m: 7 Starts: 2-0-1
Ascot 2400m: 2 Starts: 1-0-1
Comment: WA's second highest prizemoney earner of all time. Has won WFA Group 1s in the eastern states and has a never-say-die attitude and just keeps on going. A major chance - must include.

5. Early Express (Dauberval - Early Dawn)
2400m: 1 Start: 1-0-0
Ascot 2400m: 1 Start: 1-0-0
Comment: Tough stayer with a touch of class. No problem with the 2400m distance. Include in trifecta's and quartets.

6. Free At Last (Senor Pete - Bargibant)
2400m: 3 Starts: 1-0-1
Ascot 2400m: 1 Start: 1-0-0
Comment: Another one of those tough stayers who doesn't stop trying and the 2400m will suit. Look for this horse to be finishing late when the whips are cracking. A roughie maybe?

7. Beau Heed (Serheed - Honey Petique)
2400m: 4 Starts: 1-1-1
Ascot 2400m: 2 Start 1-1-0
Comment: Classy stayer with the 2400m being no problems at all. Place chance at best.

8. Old Cobber (Old Spice - Balmy Night)
2400m: 7 Starts: 3-1-1
Ascot 2400m: 6 Starts: 2-0-1
Comment: Won the Cox Stakes twice and has a fantastic record at 2400m. Will feature - a major player. One to include in trifectas and quartets.

9. Haulpak's Image (Haulpak - Swinging Sue)
2400m: 7 Starts: 1-2-1
Ascot 2400m: 6 Starts: 1-2-1
Comment: Classy stayer with proven record at 2400m. One to watch.

10: Meliador (Just Great - Lady Finger)
2400m: 2 Starts: 2-0-0
Ascot 2400m: 1 Start: 1-0-0
Comment: Powerful stayer who had never ending class. For me - the one they all have to beat.

11. Palatious (Semipalatinks - Delicious Blue)
2400m: 3 Starts: 1-1-0
Ascot 2400m: 3 Starts: 1-1-0
Comment: Consistent galloper who hardly puts a foot wrong. Best of the roughies. Include in trifecta's and quartets.

12. Mirror Magic (Lord Ballina - Mirramanda)
2400m: 7 Starts: 2-1-3
Ascot 2400m: 5 Starts: 2-1-2
Comment: Fantastic record at the Ascot 2400m. Must include in trifecta's and quartets.

13. Old Money (Old Spice - Balmy Night)
2400m: 3 Starts: 3-0-0
Ascot 2400m: 3 Starts: 3-0-0
Comment: Classy filly who is unbeaten at the 2400m at Ascot with a combined winning margin of 4.6 lengths. Look for this galloper to be doing best work late.

Selections

1st - Meliador: This powerful classy stayer should just beat them all.

2nd - Haulpak's Image: Is right in this and will feature. Can't leave this galloper out.

3rd - Scenic Shot: Another top class WA galloper who I simply can't ignore. Loves the 2400m.

4th - Old Money: Always a challenge for a 3 year-old filly to run against the older horses but her record at the Ascot 2400m is simply too hard to ignore and she has already beaten older horses as well.

Roughie - Gilded Venom: This horse has so much potential. Only question mark is the distance but class should assist with getting the 2400m.

This field is a good one and trying to find the winner for me was hard but Meliador stood out for me. What was more difficult was trying to find the horses to fill the minor placings as well as a roughie. There are so many chances in this field and I wouldn't be suprised if the horses that I chose didn't feature. It's just that type of race where every horse has a small chance of winning or placing.
So over to you now - .name your top 4 and your roughie on the Perth Turf Talk Forum
