Beach Express sizzles in Northam Stakes

Perth Turf Talk | Country Racing | Sun 5 May, 2013

Beach Express made easy work of a star studded field in today's Listed Northam Toyota Stakes, assisted by a sensational ride from Daniel Staeck.

In one of the finer country fields assembled in recent history, the $100,000 event saw the return of Grand Nirvana and Waratah's Secret, however neither local star was able to stop the dominant form of Beach Express who put it out of doubt at the 200m mark. Right Time was game in defeat proving he's capable in the company, however Beach Express was too good despite not finding the front early.

Cavallo Pazzo flew home for third but the result was never in doubt.

Beach Express now takes his earnings past $360,000 with his second stakes victory, running the last 400m in 32.82.

The two topweight gallopers finished at the tail of the field over 6L away.

Liquidation, 10th on the turn, made up ground with a sizzling closing sectional of 32.70 and looks set for a return to form.

I viewed this again multiple times again last night and I'm pretty sure it is only his reins he is grabbing but is is normal what he does with his left hand after he grabs the reins? If the stewards had reported on this openly in the stewards report we prob...

i wouldn't say definitely his reins...but i would say if it was definitely anything untoward the front on patrol vision would have to have recorded it. he didn't raise his hands high enough to tuck anything into his trousers. To me the thing that made me...

the stewards have plenty of patrol film and I'm sure they went over them all. The official line is gathering of reins. Lets not forget there's an owner a trainer and a jock who have tried to celebrate their win.
