R7. Westspeed Handicap - 1 January 1970

A few favoured runners drawing badly makes this race quite tricky
Another wide open race here with a number of the favored runners drawing terrible barriers. I have settled on Sentoki (11) from the Adam Durrant stable after its impressive debut win at Pinjarra over the same distance. It should enjoy a sweet run from its middle gate and could prove too strong over the concluding stages. I have no doubt that Novadarl (5) would have been my top selection if it had drawn a gate but from the car park I can see it getting too far back in the run. Its first up run was good and it has good each way claims. Candle Smoke (9) was somewhat disappointing last start and I am happy to forgive her, she will get all the favors from barrier three and if she repeats what she did two starts back then she can win this. If Grand Crusade (1) shows up then he has undeniable winning claims, we know he has the ability but 59kg first up without a trial is a concern, I will be respecting a positive betting move for him.
