Thought i would kick off a thread for probably my favourite day on the racing calendar just about, derby day obviously kicks off a week of very good racing, not always the best track to bet at however.
Conditions possibly will see a track just into the soft range be presented not much rain is forecast up til this meeting.

If Vlandy's thinks his Golden Eagle race is taking much away from the Melbourne cup carnival opening day he ought to get off the crack pipe...

Looking at the main race Gunstock has drawn the carpark(19 or 15 after scratchings)which isn't ideal and the fav who i like Forgot You drew very well in barrier 8(7 after scr.)The close finishing runner up in the Vase Desert Harry drew wide also, i'm prepared to put a line through his chances. The other one from the Price/Kent yard Jungle Magnate who ran on well for 3rd in the same race could be worth an e.w bet and is around 20s currently.

Unsure whether Icebath will back up so no bet til at least acceptance time(seeking a prized group 1 personally i think they should tackle one of these 1600m races if she is spot on)but she is nommed for both the Cantala and Empire Rose which is for fillies and mares on Saturday, she will take some beating in either with that nice long straight to launch being right up her alley, is good value at around $11 in both races atm.

One danger in the Empire Rose could be Collette, she probably wants a soft 6 though.

On Sky News and in West Australian online. Attempted to just attach link but the link failed so report as follows;

The Northern Territory's anti-corruption watchdog has uncovered misconduct and mismanagement of public resources while investigating a multi-million dollar government grant to the Darwin Turf Club.
The NT government in 2019 announced $12 million of taxpayer funds had been awarded to the club to build a new grandstand at its racetrack. The NT Independent Commissioner Against Corruption Ken Fleming on Friday released a report following a year-long investigation into the grant.Findings of misconduct, unsatisfactory conduct, breaches of public trust and detriment to the public interest have been made.Corruption, failure to manage conflicts of interest and mismanagement of public resources was also found.Commissioner Fleming said the DTC's submission for funding, following three years of lobbying, was not based on a costing. It was also supported by so-called economic benefits and employment creation that had no justification in fact. The club's chairman Brett Dixon and the DTC board failed to declare and manage conflicts of interest in the process. This resulted in the contract to build the grandstand being given to one of Mr Dixon's companies, Jaytex Pty Ltd.Commissioner Fleming also found that the board breached its obligations under its funding agreement with the NT government, which was executed by Mr Dixon on behalf of the club.It failed to disclose a conflict of interest which meant that an NT government investigation into potential breaches of the grant agreement was thwarted, he said.Chief Minister Michael Gunner urged the DTC board to resign, saying measures had been taken to ensure such a situation never happens again."The ICAC finding of duplicitous actions are appalling. People who are not elected by Territorians treated taxpayer funds as their personal plaything and put the pursuit of personal profit ahead of public interest," he told reporters.Mr Gunner said civil action could be instigated against any private entity or person who benefited from the grant."The government (is also) calling for the resignation of the entire Darwin Turf Club board so an administrator can be brought in and a new board appointed," he said."If these resignations aren't forthcoming, I will change the act so we can sack the board."Mr Gunner said changes had since been made to ensure the government had more power to cancel contracts if there was a conflict of interest.New rules also ensure individuals who have decision-making power or hold office in an incorporated association can no longer benefit from a tender.Government funding for the DTC will be reduced over an unspecified time period to recover money. The ICAC investigation took over a year to complete and involved 54 directions not to disclose information, 34 notices to produce items or information and 28 examinations.Over 50GB of data and 15,000 documents were examined. The report makes 18 recommendations, relating to the governance of the DTC and associations, lobbying, ministerial and departmental policy, and grants policies and evaluation.

A fundraiser has been launched for Beaudesert trainer Darleen Duryea who has serious spinal injuries and bleeding on the brain after a trackwork fall last weekend.

The horse Duryea was riding broke its shoulder and collapsed and landed on top of her, breaking her back in the impact.

The seriously injured trainer was flown to a Brisbane hospital spinal unit and she underwent a six-hour spinal operation and was in an induced coma for the next several days.

The Queensland branch of the Australian Trainers’ Association reports she is now conscious and doctors are confident the bleed on her brain is under control and she will have no long-term concerns from that.

However Duryea has no movement or feeling in her lower body and she will remain in hospital for the next three to six months with “the prognosis of any improvement in the lower body highly unlikely.”

The ATA says “the road ahead for Darleen is going to a be a mighty struggle, physically emotionally and financially.”

The ATA through its National Trainers Trust has launched a fundraiser for Duryea with an initial deposit of $10,000.

They are calling for support from the racing industry and others to get behind the fundraiser and offer support to Duryea and her young son Liam.

Donations can be made through the Licensee Assistance Association Inc, BSB 484-799, Acc 0843 33357 (put your name and phone number in the reference details).

*Came across this story on Racenet her name is only vaguely familiar being a provincial/country trainer up in Queensland but it sounds like a terrible outcome, the poor woman is likely to be a lifelong paraplegic :(

Seemingly not as well looked after by the industry association as would the person injured be if she/he was a jockey.
i know there are lots of "causes" out there this sure is a worthy one no doubt..maybe some feature race winning trainers at Eagle Farm today could kick the donation fund hard donate half their percentage or in Waller's case ALL.
They usually look after their own in the racing industry but gee it's a tough game!

I'm surprised this hasn't been spoken about on here. But I wanted to outline what happened on Twitter last night:

1. I came across a tweet from the Aiden O' Brian Fans site.

2. It had figures for the most Group 1s by a trainer in world racing. Aiden was first whilst TJ was 2nd with 279 and Bart 3rd with 266.

3. However when I looked into further tweets/conversations of the initial tweet the figures for TJ and Bart were incorrect.

4. Form Focus and Thoroughbred (both tweet) pages advised of the new figures - both TJ and Bart are on 246 Group 1s each.

5. Channel 7 made the announcement last month apparently on their racing day.

See below some articles. Also the new figures will be shown to racing Australia to get endorsed and approved but the work that has been done, over 10 year period, seems well done and excellent research too.

https://www.racenet.com.au/news/revision-of-feature-records-has-tommy-smith-and-bart-cummings-to-each-have-246-group-1-wins-20210503

https://formfocus.com.au/champion-trainer/

Thoughts/comments? Seems pretty accurate, well thought out, with excellent research.
