When you are relying on Kasey Kahne for a collect you know you are either doing it tough or nailing everything, definitely was the former last week.

R1: Tip: No1 Simba Bromac. Bet: FF:1/10/2,3,5/2,3,5,8,9. 100% costs $12. EQ:1
No rocket scientest coming up with these numbers. Leader, leaders back, one of the 2,3 will be 3 back and some other numbers. Prefer Arthur Lowe to Robert The Bruce. Danger to my FF is Lewis holding back which would let the other Turvey runners swoop on the placings out wide.
R2: No1 Raffaello. Bet: Small each way No1 Raffaello. EQ: 1,2,7,8,10.
I've liked how Raffaello was going prior to his last run, was nearly a great drive but couldn't quite squeeze in. I'm going to forgive it that run. It will either be leading or behind Whenmechief. Soft lead would be fantastic. A chance these 2 could over do it so that brings Livura into it first up and you can't knock The Freedom Fighters form but I do think this is a touch harder. Soho Wonder will get a run you can't ignore. Want to see Overboard Again finish a race off before I can have him.
R3: Tip: No7 Vampiro. Bet: Vampiro mid tote plc multi. FF:1,7/1,2,3,7/1,2,3,7,8/1,2,3,4,7,8. 100% costs $54. EQ: 1,7.
Johnny Disco gets an easy lead and can run a bloody quick mile but I thought Vampiro would get up outside him just as easily and might ultimately outstay him. I really like the 2 and 3 horses sitting just behind them. I actually think its going to be very hard for EL Jacko to even get into 3rd but small races with multiple from one stable are always hard to read.
R4: Tip: No12 Amelias Courage. Bet: Maybe something small EW Dontstopbelievin. EQ: 2,3,7,9,12. 100% costs $50.
Detroit Lilly is the class but she is a bit of an assassin and I don't think it's going to work out for her. Likely speed battle between Dontstopbelievin and Jingle Jolt. I thought Hawkins was likely to hold the top so I'll probably play her EW, either horse leading will run well. Tipping Amelias Courage as I think sat up is her go and the 2,3 may set it up for her but just expecting the 2 as a leader around GP with some ability to be decent value.
R5: Tip No1 My Hard Copy. Bet: No1 My Hard Copy fixed win multi. QD:1,2.
My Hard Copy looks the leader and the winner but he can get keen in his races so taking The Bucket List as precaution. That exacta likely to be massively over bet, probably similar in race 1.
R6: Tip: No1 Cracka Star. No Bet. QD:1,10,12.
Cracka Star looks to cop no pressure and can real off a very quick quarter under those conditions but it will want those conditions. I don't see Destined To Rule having any trouble holding leaders back this time so it will be very dangerous late and Sahleas Comand can win it if for some reason it us an upside down race.
R7: Tip: Better B Chevron. Bet: No6 Forever Remembered EW. QD: 2,3,6.
I thought Better B Chevron could cross Im Stylish making it hard to beat. I'm hoping they run a super fast lead time though for Forever Remembered who is not going to be too far from them in running. Little bit too fast early and she is in it up to her eyeballs.
R8: Tip No2 Aussie Jet. Bet: No2 Aussie Jet EW but i'd want closer to 10/1 than is currently available. QD: 2,4,5,8. 100% costs $72.
I thought I'd found one here but it looks like i'm not the only one. Aussie Jet has been racing well behind the placings prior to its last run were things didn't work out. It should cross the 1 easily and hopefully shoot for an all the way win. Tajies Girl has flown out her last two and went fantastic Monday, that run could win it here. Whoever leads has to hope not to cop too much pressure from Presidentmach which could happen but he may take up the running also. If they over do it Budd is the swooper.
R9: Tip: No1 Countess Grace. Bet: No1 Countess Grace mid tote win multi.
I was hoping for this one to be a better price but has come up short in the couple of early markets. It looks the leader, its run 2 back was massive (relative to these) and Tues just had a nice pipe opener for this. It looks the leader and the two dangers drawn out wide haven't shown anything that would say they are infinitely ahead of her so she should be winning.
R10: Tip: No1 Clarina.
Look he won his first start at his 20th go and is around a 2.02 horse who to this point has not wanted to go under 29 for a quarter but taking away time and just going by eye he really ran through the line well on Saturday has AC Lewis so that's enough for me. Likely to cop some pressure from the 2 who maybe crosses and the 4. On times you would have to go for No Wow Factor but the name might be apt, he has won 1 from 23 and it was there for the taking for him last start and he didn't. That said if the 2 comes out hard he may just lob straight into the one one again. Fight Song has got me a few times of late, gets a lovely run but he needs to win before he gets me again. Its actually a pretty competitive race if you can look past the ticks they have (or haven't) amassed in the win column.

Good luck all.

R1: No12 American Brave. Bet:No10 Fizzing EW. EQ:5,9,10,12
Good overall record, nice win first up and jnr sticks. Want to see it go around again though. Originally had Bettor B Abeliever leading but now think Our Corelli will hold it, they are probably a level below. I’m having something EW on Fizzing just because I love how he is going but don’t like backing them without any sort of map of how it wins.
R2: No5 El Machine. Bet:No5 El Machine EW, small EW Raffaello. EQ:1,3,5,10,12.
He finds himself in a class of race that he can be driven positively in. I thought A Bit Ruthless was a 60% chance of crossing. El Machine goes forward and is followed by the stablemate, sits on it and zaps them. The other real player for me is Raffaello but he is a bit like Fizzing, others are going to have to make it happen for him.
R3: No8 El Jacko. No Bet EQ:5,6,7,8,10.
I don’t know. El Jacko racing well but not a win bet for me. Threw in the 5 because maybe it leads. On the night I might have something on Im Lisart, will love being on the pegs around the 2500m, can see it blowing them out.
R4: No6 Vampiro.Bet:No6 Vampiro EW. EQ:3,6,7,8,9. Spent way too much.
Love the marathon but I really don’t know other than I loved Vampiro’s last run, he has 10m on Motu Premier and is 3 times the price. Oliveri loves this style of race though. Another very interesting race that I probably shouldn’t be playing.
R5: No1 Mighty Mr Sharky.Bet:No1 Mighty Mr Sharky EW. QD:1,3,6,7,8.
A throw at the stumps. At somewhere between that 33-40/1 range I’m happy to see what the shark can do from the pole in this race. I thought he might lead but I’m really just punting on a bit of C Brown magic. A chance they over do this and Beaudiene Boaz is working into some form although its likely to be when has drawn well that he bobs up.
R6: No10 Robert The Bruce.Bet:No10 Robert The Bruce EW (expecting a price drift). QD:1,3,6,9,10.
I love Rob on the pegs. All things equal the 1 horse should hold up and run well but the driver change does concern me. Taking the 3 in case it finds the top. Soho Chelsea looks to get the breeze. Natural Disaster is a real risk I feel, can win but happy to bet around it.
R7:No10 Destined To Rule. Bet:No10 DTR EW. QD:1,8,9,10.
I like this one. Sitting leaders back, I expect Beaudiene Beaufighter to get up outside Star Armbro. Expect Brown will want to test it and get running early. Destined To Rule will get a chance to come off and finish it off, just needs to do it. I think the sprint from a long way out might make it hard for Living La Bamba but it is clearly flying. Like the novelties here throwing in My Entourage.
R8: No5 Tajies Girl. Bet:No5 Tajies Girl EW. QD:1,4,5.
I like this one as well. I thought Tajie could just follow over Soho Changeling and take up the running, then just win. Keeping it simple. If it doesn’t happen like that she is still a place chance. Don’t really like the 1 horse but taking it just in case it gets there to retake the lead.
R9: No1 Kasey Kahne. Bet:No1 Kasey Kahne EW.
I had something on this guy midweek and he had plenty left in the tank. A rise in grade but a move to the 1 helps, I’m guessing but I think he should be able to lead. That’s more than half the battle in this grade.
R10: Wowee 5/4 on Silenes Silhoutte and people will be betting. I don’t feel so bad backing Mighty Mr Sharky in a FFA now!

Back by popular request...I am amazed at who actually reads these posts....a passing comment at Pinjarra from an unlikely source today said it's about time you did another one "even if I never get them because someone beats me to the punch", so here goes.Cheers for the encouragement, gotta keep the history alive.

Normally, to get a guernsey, the horse has to have won something in the feature race department but courtesy of running into more champs than Joe Frazier, he never did.

But with a 26% win and a 62% podium record and a winner of well over a $100k when that amount of money bought you 2 or 3 decent houses with change left over for a bargain bunkee from a used car lot in Vic Park, he gets a wild card entry. Handled by a very understated and underated driver from a famous WA racing family, and being by the "sire of the day" when everyone was buying his progeny courtesy of a couple of undisputed super stars, his name was a combination of the two blokes who bred him and he started of his racing life in the deep South of NZ. A slow maturer, he nonetheless claimed a 3yo NZ Group 3 win from his 6 starts in NZ prior to being purchased and coming to WA where he would go on to accumulate 20 wins and a very tight metropolitan assessment.

But it was what he didn't win and who beat him that saw him fly well under the radar.

Heat winner of the Derby before being unplaced (and here is a hint) in the Final which was NOT run at Gloucester Park behind a very good 3 year old.

Placed in a Golden Nugget Final won by one of the many star Eastern Staters that regularly raided the coffers on their trips over the Nullabor.

2nd to a Bill Horn star in an August Cup (that was NOT driven by Chris Lewis).

2nd in a Bunbury Cup behind a 3rd placegetter in an Interdominion Final.

2nd in a Winter Cup behind one of the states most loved and long standing stars who himself had plenty of heart breaking runners up finishes behind superstars (but who on more than one occasion got up off the canvass to knock them off).

Placed in a Tatts Cup behind a Greg Harper trained machine who had enormous success.

That should be enough info to nail him ....if you are onto him, and many will be, can you just hold off for a minute or two to give my prompter a chance to get on the winners board haha. One thing I will say....you would love a stable full of types like this horse, even if I can only recall catching him once on the punt...and he was something like 40/1 as our amiable driver wound him up down the outside to cause a boilover.

For some of you these may be the ones to put a line through but i'm sticking Fat, trusting the process and only worrying about whats happening inside these four walls. (The Mrs says its OK I can have a little bit of money to play with). Results are certain to follow.
R1: No4 Extreme Prince.
I thought he could just edge out Major Pocket in the early race for the lead. He is no star but he is racing well now and can get it done leading. The Freedom Fighter looks to get around to the breeze pretty easily and is obviously a massive chance. Lesser chance to Major Pocket who will be near the speed (priced like he is just walking to the front), Argyle Red the clear class but letting it go first up and Must Be Nice for the Padberg factor. EQ: 1,4,8. FF:4,8/1,2,4,8/1,2,4,8,10/1,2,3,4,6,8,9,10,11. 100% costs $106 which is huge but 10% spend could be 10% of a lot! Extreme Prince EW.
R2: No11 Dodolicious.
Courage Tells on last week has the speed to hold up. I’m working on that happening and then waiting for Dodo to come around. Just on him looking to be an EW price I will probably have something on Courage Tells but I wouldn’t be shocked with any result here. EQ: 1,6,8,11. Courage Tells EW.
R3: No1 Robert The Bruce.
Have been waiting for this guy to get a chance to spin around on the pegs again and it looks like the corporates have been as well. Might be able to make something out of it anchoring El Machine in FFs from 3 back the pegs but it looks pretty hard to make any money from this. EQ:1 smaller play the 11.
R4: No12 Vampiro.
Whenmechief is an in and out customer. Was my original on top pick but have an inkling he may hand up to Lets chase the dream. So I’ve gone the other way and settled on the consistency and touch of class of Vampiro. He can push through on the back of the 3 and get in front of Motu Premier and realistically should beat him with that advantage. Even a blind man would have noticed Motu flashing between runners last week and is a massive class drop but as is usual he is likely to have the running of the race against him. For the risk averse punters out there Vampiro mid tote plc looks a fantastic boost along for any multis. EQ:1,3,8,12. Vampiro EW.
R5: No10 Tradie.
This fella might be way out classed but I’m looking for something similar to last week with Tyler Brett. He is likely to be 3 back with Saleahs Command crossing, Lord Willoughby breezing. I want to be on something with a sit and I think the inside just gives him an edge over Therugo who will probably be 5 deep the final bend and Kasey John who I think leads up the 3 deep line. QD: 4,6,10,11,12. Probably play some novelties leading with the backline horses.
R6: No5 Chicago Bull.
Not playing the FFA has been good for me and I’ll stick, hope to see a big run from the Bull. QD:5
R7: No3 Good Times Ahead.
Has Lightning Jolt found a couple of extra sets of legs? I knocked Camopra last week similarly (WRONG!) and while I think this guy CAN win I wouldn’t be backing him. I thought GTA just led this and wins handsomely. Some good odds have been bet (displayed anyhow). There isn’t much in it, as long as they don’t burn each other one of them should win. GTA could be a massive tumbler if my running of the race is right. QD:1,3. GTA EW.
R8: No5 Lady Luca.
Now I’m getting really brave, backing a Hayden Charles drive on a Friday night! It’s a bit like the Ian Davie driven horses 15yrs ago, he would get a winner home every now and then you just had to find them. I’ve been following this horse for some time now and I thought this was her race, Hayden can go forward early, if nothing comes she can win from the breeze, if Im Stylish comes he can zap her late. Good luck connections, go get em!!! QD:3,5,8. Lady Luca EW.
R9: No7 Liberty Rose.
I see Sportsbet saying they went up $15 innocent Affair. I thought her last win was a great step forward for her. I’m hopeful that the market support suggests she holds up which will make for a cracking race. Gone Liberty Rose as I think she is better driven ice cold and should be so here. Will only be playing if I’m playing with theirs.
R10: No1 Bee Seventeen.
Doesn’t win out of turn but is no orphan here. Deserves a win, looks the leader and winner. That said at the price he does race keenly so maybe a 1/3 bet on a horse like No11 The Great Dane 3 back the pegs is the way to play it if once again you have the houses money.
Good luck all.

Bit of a road trip over the weekend to watch 2 of mine go around ...Wagin Friday, Northam Saturday, 1080km all up ...some say (probably accurately) "your mad, sit home and watch them on TV, neither had a chance from the barrier"...fair enough but they don't really understand. Both ran decent and that's what it's all about.
But the bonus is running into old foes and friends and hearing the stories, wonderful stories, probably embellished a bit over time but stories none the less of past times when compliance was different, there were no driving fees or set percentages and survival was difficult.
No names, no pack drills but chuckled to myself all the way home Saturday Night on the 5 hour drive back from Northam over some "tall but true?" stories from the past.

Back in the 70's, a very young trainer driver was starting on his journey with support from his parents. Leased a young horse from an old timer with an option to buy on the assurance from the successful old horseman that said horse, broken, gaited and trialled and who possessed decent bloodlines, would be a good starter horse for him. True to form, a couple of good country wins later and a fair price was negotiated and the horse gave the young tyro trainer his first city wins. The horse turned out to be above average. Smiles all around, all parties very happy. The success attracted attention from a new owner who sourced a horse from a very prominent SA trotting family for the young fellow to train. When put into work, the horse was running good times and the owner was keen to have a decent throw at the then thriving betting ring at GP, and thus a plan was hatched. But the young bloke was a rookie driver, not confident he could get the job done with the weight of money to tow around as an added burden. So, he approaches the best in the business and asks him to take the drive. "I'll drive him son but you won't get a price if I am on it, better off driving him yourself, you go okay, believe in yourself, you'll never get better handing off drives to me". Sage and encouraging advice. "Anyway, I am driving one in your race and "I won't get in your way"...nudge, wink. Suitably emboldened, the plan proceeds, the commisioners do their work and the young fella fires the plunge horse out of the gate and strides to the front. After about 200m, who should appear up on his outside in the breeze? No prizes for guessing as the top man parks his horse to ride shotgun. The young fella is still nervous as a cat but as they sail down by the palms for the last time, at the urging of his protector, he cuts the ribbons. "Go on son, for chrissake, get going ". He goes for the doctor and sprints clear and then he hears a helluva commotion going on behind, carts clattering, yelling and shouting as the breeze horse unfortunately locks wheels and zigs and zags disorganising the chasing pack. The plunge horse gets the chockies, correct weight, pay tote. Back to the stalls and everyone quietly going about their business. The old pro walks past ..."nice drive son, got the job done, but tell your owner, don't go to the well too often". And ain't that the truth.
True story? Who knows ....... but some of the key figures are no longer with us and only they would know. All I know is I was there that night, the horse did win, it was well supported, I might have had a shilling or two each way, it was by a Tar Heel Stallion out of an Aachen mare, it won numerous races and would have saluted anyway, regardless of the untimely interference that occurred in the back straight.....and .......we should never let the facts get in the way of a good story!!! By the way, the young fella went on to become a very proficient and highly respected trainer.

R1: No1 The Freedom Fighter. He should win but there is a small chance he can get crossed or at the very least softened up a bit at the start by Ardens Concorde. So with that in mind I’m going to have something small on No6 Always Arjay. Love how this guy is going. Probably be 1 out 3 back, just needs them to overdo a quarter somewhere and he can zap them. EQ:1,6.

R2: No6 Soho Chelsea. Got burned by this guy first up, loved his 2nd up run and am all over him here. The breeze just looks to be there for the offing, take it, dictate, win. Tanaka Eagle was a fantastic price midweek, doing his mini inters here he looks the leader and danger. Campora $1.85 opening with sportsbet!!!! WOW. FF:4,6/1,2,4,6,10/1,2,4,6,10/1,2,4,6,8,10,11. 100% costs $120 small play. EQ:4,6.

R3: No7 Lincs Tiger. I like the look of Lincs Tiger but this is an acid test. Harder for Speed Man here but has the runs on the board. I’ll be having a punt on Itsnotova as a blowout as I think it might push forward early and camp right on the speed behind the previously mentioned two. EQ:6,7,9.

R4: No9 El Jacko. Been great his last two after his “spell”. Will have to be another big performance here. Soho Leviathan looks the leader, has Lewis and will get away with a bit. Maybe have something on him??? I just can’t get that last win out of my mind, they gifted it to him and he just fell in, needs to be better. Will be taking the 10 and 11 doing nothing and sprinting home. Maybe a FF:1,9/1,9,10,11/1,3,4,9,10,11/1,3,4,7,9,10,11. 100% costs $96 for a peanut. EQ:1,9,10,11.

R5: No2 Simba Bromac. I think he can sit outside Jimmy Mack and beat him, somewhere out towards $2.80 would be nice. I’d say Tyler Brett will go straight to the inside as his form has dropped a little his last couple not leading. I thought that could have Major Pocket sitting right on Simba’s back and a real chance of a boil over, well worth an EW ticket. Livin La Bamba is a very exciting horse but I just think the length of the sprint required here will be too much. Jimmy an obvious chance but not racing how he was 7 weeks ago. QD:2,4.

R6: No1 Chicago Bull. QD:1

R7: No4 Remarkable. With Right Hand being as slow as a wet week out I figure C Hall can pull Regal Ambition on for 100m or so and then slot in behind him, work out in the closing stages and go Tata. Regal Ambition a wining chance looking the leader although would prefer the 2100m. Righteous Brother goes forward and probably gets the 1,1 on Wimac Attack, they are in. Would love to see Robert The Bruce on the fence in a race again but behind Right Hand probably sees him get off asap. A slight chance to The Redeemer as Voak could do what I hope Hall does. QD: 2,4,8,9.

R8: No1 Bhagwan. Never thought I’d say this about him but he just about looks a moral. Looks the leader, is racing brilliant, some of these other drivers would need to cook it tempo wise and him go unders on recent runs to get beaten. The 10 and 11 following him along look the dangers if the likes of Shardon/Rabchenko/Attack On Comand put undue pressure on. QD: 1,10,11.

R9: Good luck to the trotting punters.

R10: A good chance for all connections here to get a Friday night win.

I'll be playing Always Arjay, Soho Chelsea, Itsnotova, Major Pocket and Remarkable with the way the markets are looking to head. The first fours mentioned and something on the quads.

Good luck all.

R1:No2 Simba Bromac. Leads and wins. If you are that way inclined you could have it in a multi no worries. I don’t think it’s even worth trying to mess around with a first four, no value taking it with Michael Joseph and little point taking it without. Righteous Brother could pip MJ for second although he is a question mark in terms of his form and the last start incident. Tanaka Eagle will appreciate the soft run and the other two I’d be keen on top four are Lisharry and Campora but they are both very luck in running based horses.
R2:No7 Suzie Rocks. I’m going Suzie based on her having two chances to win it. Pretty confident Soho Changeling cross then hands up. Suzie can be the first horse there, if not it is likely to be Talkerup (who I’m happy to take on). If she doesn’t get there she will get the 1,1 on Dodo and is still a solid winning chance. I know Dodo ran way quicker last week in defeat but her opening odds are poison IMO. It’s a drop in grade for her and class may tell but she is priced as though she is just going to walk to the front, has to drift, I want to see her win one. The 10,11 and 12 horse are all blowout chances as there is a chance they cook this early.
R3:No13 The Bucket List. I tossed up between The Bucket List and Swimbetweentheflags and have ended up with TBL because I want to be on the one having the last crack at them. I think Swimbetweentheflags can work its way to the front and just needs a couple of quarters in the 30 range to start the run home to be a big player, if that 2nd quarter is down around the low 29s or lower think it’s in trouble. Prefer him in a race with a sit. Not keen on Motu Premier, again want to see him do it before I’m on. The more I look the keener I am on The Bucket List.
R4:No11 Ima Rocknroll Legend. Keen on this fellow on the previsor that I only want to be on him sat up. He’s a great little horse sat up for a real short sprint, goes well in front, not much good at anything else! El Machine is a chance at a massive price, is going to win one when the chips go his way. Am not anti the 1 horse but again backa 1 horse at GP odds on with little form at your peril even if it does have some ability.
R5:No1 Bronze Seeker. Just something small on the little sit kick horse tucked away. May even end up 3 back the pegs but that’s alright, confident on him running well from 1. A lot better horses than him in it but who knows what trip they get.
R6:No2 Destined To Rule. Thinking this might be another Chris Lewis master class. I didn’t mind the last run and I thought it looked the leader. Well and truly worth a bet. Happy to take on Chok Chai again, I think the only way it wins is if they go absolute handlebars down and bully their way to the top.
R7:No4 Chicago Bull. Good luck to anyone willing to invest in this race. Hopefully for interest sake Harper pours it on and gets the top.
R8:No4 De La Tourbie. I thought Innocent Affair would cross and then hand up to De La Tourbie. That makes her good winning chance but I’d want an EW price not what she has opened. From a betting point of view I might have something on No5 Semiramide. Needs to keep improving but will get its chance to with it likely to get to the moving line and probably get a trail on Amelias Courage. Don’t want the other two out wide to come around early and shuffle her too far back.
R9:No2 Flash Hunter. He looks the leader to me and his last run was very solid. That’s a good combination for a race like this. Happy to be on him.
R10:No5 Iona Diamond. She has grown a leg at her last two starts but that has been off good trips whereas Major Pride needs you to forgive her last run with excuses. On price and draw I am happy to have something on Iona.

Thought I'd get the discussion started really early.

As a first look I think Soho Interceptor will play a big part on who wins this race (not it). I see two options, they concede they probably aren't going well enough and just let it all happen or they decide they want to keep a forward spot in the moving line not just letting Dracarys across it creating a concertina effect having everything work that bit harder outside it. That scenario I give Bletchley Park a massive chance of getting off late and taking it out. I have to say I would have been more confident with Dylan on or Mark being further into his racing return.

If she does come out in neutral though then Dracarys gets over easy, sits on Too Fast Too Serious making it look very hard for Bletchley Park to get out. That scenario obviously sets it up for Franco Edward but I also do give the filly a chance even though it seems widely accepted the boys are better (hard to argue on times but I loved her 3 wide solo run at pinj). I concede not having seen her in the flesh she does look tiny on the box.

Or does Too Fast Too Serious roll the dice and have a crack for the top? Aldo version2.0 is a far more aggressive driver since teaming up with Warwick, think the sport is all the better for it.

Delighted to see the Great Southern Derby returns tonight after not being held last year.
