It’s about the loss to
the community and the ability for them to enjoy a night out.

So hopefully we get a great turnout that we can show RWWA that we are
well supported here and maybe we can overturn this decision and continue
racing in Kalgoorlie.
The more that turn up the better chance of showing RWWA that GMTC is relevant in the Community

Hope to see you all there!

A grand old campaigner in every sense of the word.

He's second favourite to win at $4.50 and $1.73 in early markets. Not only good luck to the Rocket but also to anybody who gets involved on the punt. He's been unplaced at his previous 19 starts and just the one placing from his last 33 appearences.

If the astute trainer and clever driver can get him over the line in first place it will be a feather in there caps.

The Easter Cup at GP Thursday has had a stake increase this year....$50k off season is okay and a full field handicap with quite a few back markers going back to 50m over 2900m...potentially a pretty good race. And although not up to the quality of the old days, a vast improvement on some pretty recent shockers, so thumbs up I think.
The last 10 winners from 2017 back to 2007 were Asassinator, Znana, Lovers delight (a standout in this group), Finbar Abbey, Rebel Scooter, Uppy Son, Anvils Big Punt, Arma Harris, Scruffy Murphy, Total Defiance and Subabrew.
The next group back to 1997 features Party Date, The Falcon Strike, Allwoods Chief and Golden Gears, some real quality there.
From 1996 back it was a mobile but Just Packapunch, Hugh Maguire, Via Valencia, the great stayer Mystery Cargo (3300m) and Village Kid (2500m) kept it in the spotlight.
Abenteuer, Gold Rowan, Indian Chant, Pallaton, Thor Rise, High Moore (an Alan Woodworth special drive $$$), Little william and Young Robbie takes us back to 1976 after it reverted to a stand over 3200m.
Prior to that, it was a blue ribbon event set around the Easter Handicap with the two night Easter Carnival a highlight of the year (tied in with the Easter Handicap and easter Cup at Ascot....4 days/nights of top racing. Go out to Ascot and watch Detonator carrying the Grandstand, back to GP to watch the likes of Wee Cent, Tanaka, Red Vicar, Miss Dundee, Binshaw, Blue Pennant,Renaud, Kolworth, Mercedes, Satanas and Kiwi Dillon....household names they were, trust me.
Whist the export market to America and injury has well and truly thinned out the fast class ranks the last few months, I reckon this is the best Eater Cup field for a while and hopefully a good race. Wagin Cup is on the same night but only a $6k race which is a bit mystifying when they went around for $10k at Collie last Sunday but an interesting race as well.

When scanning through some data bases for the Easter Cup and my rant about standing start races, my memory was prodded about a serious horse that flew well under the radar.....for a number of reasons. Firstly, when there are 8 other horses that are named exactly the same, you might just suffer from an inferiority complex. Secondly when you have several major interruptions to you career through injury, some requiring up to 3 years away from racing, you tend to drop out of the public view and thirdly, when you come from such a serious family with relations that were champion horses and very substantial sires, along with maternal relations that produced multiple winners, you might just get pushed to the sidelines.
Now this horse was a seriously good horse who excelled as a juvenile and after all of his injury issues returned as veteran to win major races including the aforementioned Easter Cup from the stand.
A win in a heat of the Derby showed class but injury ruled out the Derby Final and he was spelled. Returning as a 4 year old, he cruised through the classes and won the Easter Handicap before going sore again. Returning at 5, he quickly advanced to fast class, winning multiple Free For Alls, a major WA Cup lead up race and was 2nd in the Pacing Cup. He followed this up with his Easter Cup victory and when winning a FFA on his return to racing as a 6 year old, he broke down with predictions he would never race again. But return he did after a 3 year absence from the track.
Coming back in the winter as a 9 year old to take advantage of the softer tracks, he dominated racing, winning a further 3 Free For Alls, a Winter Cup and an August Cup. He really was a star but hardly ever gets mentioned in dispatches in spite of being in a top stable and being bred by one of the most prominent and prolific breeders in WA.
Anyway, its a slow day, no trots tonight and probably an easy get for some of the more "mature" members of the forum.

Cutting through some of the faff that has clogged up your Tellie this weekend.....the Golden Slipper, Winx, The Dockers, The Western Gateway Pace, the AGP and other assorted chaff like the AFLW (Seriously, the old Test Pattern makes for better viewing), all roads head to Collie for their Cup Meeting on Sunday. Forget about trying to avoid a near death experience on public transport getting to the Craypot to watch Nic's Knee, never mind getting back to your designated train station and praying that your car is still there.....with wheels still attached, kick back under the sails watching some real racing in safety, comfort and mild weather.
Cup Preview:
Standing start may sort a few out as will the 2700m journey with the favourite coming from the backmark and plenty of each way chances.
1. Calvary Call Fr ($18)
Been racing in stronger company, no Hot Fraternity or Courage To Live to deal with here but has won from the stand back in January at Busselton and the small track won't bother. Stepping cleanly and quickly will be the key as he has won here before. Form can be up and down and can't lead here but a top 4 chance if he gets cover.
2. Lisdelight Fr ($3.80)
Last 4 runs all from the stand and a very safe beginner. Form is excellent including a win at this track 4 starts back and a 2nd to Mister Tom Dooley last start and Tom would be even money in this field if he was going around. Distance will suit, will go to sleep on the pegs, will just need to see daylight from the 400, top chance.
3. Telham Lane Fr ($26)
Has had 160 starts from the stand for 16 wins and 49 placings and with nearly $143k in earnings and a past winner of the Collie Cup and the King Collie Cup plus 6 other wins at the track, a case can be made for this little old warrior. He will step fast, he will lead at some stage but he may be getting a bit weary as the years and 248 starts catch up with him. Sentimental favourite of the patrons, will probably be asked to run for Mayor of Collie after he retires but will find it tough going.
4.Spot The Shark Fr ($34)
Another stand specialist with 7 victories from the stand and many placings including a 3rd at Bunbury 4 starts back, has a driver in form and has been around the small tracks for years, a victory at Busso last December was his last win. Hardly likely to have the swimmer beware sirens sounding in the home straight but he will step and that can be half the battle.
5. Beaus Mystery 10m ($14)
Interesting runner with decent form but no stand form to recommend him. Tough customer, breezing doesn't bother him having won and been a close 2nd from that spot at Albany this season. Stable in form but take on trust from the stand, if he steps, he is a good place chance although breezing at Albany and breezing at Collie are two completely different things.
6. Abetta Tiny Dancer 10m ($11)
Back to the stand after recently running in mobiles but is a 6 time winner from the tapes including a win from 30m at Busselton last January. Safe beginner though not quick out, pretty decent form of late when 5th at GP last start. No Beaudienne Beaufighter or Rockin The Boys engaged here but honest mare, will need a good run in transit, races best on the pegs but definite place chance. Not the worst.
7. Batavia Scooter 10m ($7.50)
Ran 3rd to The Trilogy here 2 starts back but that was from the mobile and this is just its second lifetime attempt from the stand. Form is okay but would need to scoot away from the tapes to be any chance and regardless will settle in the back half of the field. would need a dream passage to fill top three.
8. Four Legged Frenzy 20m (3.80)
Not many win from 20m at Collie and but has both ability and form on the back of its last start 2nd at Pinjarra in 1.56 and change behind Ocean Ridge. Just one previous attempt at the stand but real chance if he goes away with them and gets a cart into the race. Can do some work in his races which he will need to do from the back mark.
9. Pacific Playboy 20m ($2.60)
Stable change last start proved very successful when a very well supported winner from the stand at Northam when he sailed home late off a perfect run to beat Billy Mack. Renowned standing start horse who will begin and will present as the winner at some stage. Will be favourite and will need some luck from the back mark but likely to be in the front half of the pack pretty early because of his barrier manners.

Prices are prelim Bet 365 fixed .....ummmm...indicative only.

Right, find the thermos, fill up with diesel and a good day trip coming up.

Another win tonight at Bunbury for The Accumulator in easy fashion, and arguably, he is the best bred horse in WA...by Bettors Delight out of Splendid Dreams making him a brother to the mighty Christen Me, Our Dream About Me, Hans Christian etc, all champions. Splendid Dreams is a sister to the incomparable Adore Me and to cover the vastness of this winning family would take up pages. I can't imagine he came cheap and he has a lot of weight of expectation to carry around but he is royally bred. Further intrigue is that Pick My Pocket, also a winner at Bunbury tonight is very closely related to The Accumulator.

Choices, choices, choices....a slow afternoon, so do I make a 28th attempt at reading Stephen Hawking's "A Brief History of Time" (hoping to progress past my previous best result of page 7 whilst understanding none of it) or do we going Flying Under The Radar? A no brainer really....has there ever been a best selling book that has been read by so few? It's the ultimate academic toss off leaving your well worn copy of the book casually lying around on a coffee table as you feign academic prowess......makes absolute zero sense to me ....and I studied Physics at Uni. Completely unintelligible to me. Anyway, I digress. To matters more urbane.

This horse is the consummate "Under The Radar Flyer". Locally bred out of an unraced mare, being the 2nd highest stake earner (which doesn't say much) of a modestly performed sire, he raced for 6 years, contested every major race imaginable (think Interdominions, Pacing Cups,Freo Cups, Victoria Cup, Treur Memorial, Australian Pacing Championships, Golden Nugget, McInerney Classic, Derby's)... and won none of them ....zero, not even a placing ....but he did manage 31 wins and over $300k in stakes when 300k was a serious amount of money.

A handy 3 year old with some country and midweek wins at GP, he boosted his earnings in a pretty week State Sires closed race pocketing 30k but was unplaced/outclassed in the Derby and was spelled. As a 4 year old, he won a country based "Spring Championship", a race since discontinued as its title was much grander than its actual quality but finished down the track in the major 4 year old races such as the Nugget and the 4YO Classic but did collect a minor placing in another Sires Stake race.
Returning as a 5 year old saw improved form progressing through the classes with numerous M Class wins and a placing in a minor Parliamentarians Cup race but could not handle the class and ran down the track in the Pacing Cup, the Freo Cup and the APC. The Inters was also a bridge too far in spite of a very surprising heat win that snuck him into the Final in which he ran near last.
As a 6 year old, he won a couple of minor off season FFA's and Cups and headed east for all the major races but alas no success. Back for another try at the Celebrity Mile/APC/Freo Cup/Pacing Cup series, a single 3rd place was his best return. He continued to run many places over the next couple of years in minor cup races along with country wins but he does hold one unique piece of pacing trivia.
A country club decided to honour JP Stratton with a feature event at their track worth $5k...a substantial stake in those days ....and he won that race (his last win as an 8 year old) to go alongside his other major Cup win in a JP Stratton Cup at headquarters.
After a few more unplaced runs, he was retired.
I remember the horse well, I never ever caught him when he won, mobile or stand didn't bother him but I was astonished to see both how many races he won and how much he earned.
Okay, back to Professor Hawkings.

In the same theme as the Cass Haese discussion (which is just so interesting), do any of you remember Johnny Marsden's horses? His son Tom Marsden still has horses (trains Tuxedo Tour... who I think might now be retired). Tom's son Rodney is also still in horses I believe., Absolutely LOVELY down to earth family. Such gems. Wish they could live forever.

My Dad worked for Johnny as a teenager and learned all he knows about horses off him. Dad still says, 'Johnny Marsden used to say...' and I'd just love to know what horses Johnny had and the successes. I know he had one that was quite successful that Dad used to always mention but I can't remember its name.
