After hearing evidence from both drivers and viewing the film on a number of occasions stewards dismissed the protest. Although it was established that IM SIMPLY RED had contacted the near side sulky wheel of MCCLINCHIE NZ resulting in the tyre being flattened, stewards could not determine how much ground this had cost MCCLINCHIE NZ. Therefore stewards could not be satisfied that the placings would be reversed had the incident not occurred.

PLATI – Held up for a clear run over the concluding stages.

WABI SABI – Had a tendency to over race during the early and middle stages.

HEEZ ABOUT TO ROCK NZ – Broke gait during the early stages of the score up and took no competitive part in the race. Placed outside the draw in mobile barrier races.

IM SIMPLY RED – Contacted the sulky of another runner racing in the back straight on the final occasion. Driver Darren Kerr was fined $100 under rule 168(1)(a) for careless driving for allowing the gelding to contact the sulky of MCCLINCHIE NZ.

MCCLINCHIE NZ - The nearside sulky wheel of this gelding was accidentally contacted and flattened by another runner racing in the back straight on the final occasion.

I would have thought that should have been enough to uphold the protest as margin was only a Neck but the Stewards did not agree.

Alan Parker has published this excellent piece on the passing of Ray Sweetmqn on the HRA website.

Ray Sweetman, an outstanding horseman
and the man who educated Australia’s first 1:55 pacer and leading sire
Classic Garry, died last week and a private funeral was held on
Thursday.

Owen Raymond (Ray) Sweetman was born in 1927 and in 1942 his father
Charlie leased a 2yo called Dallingwood but the gelding had a bad habit
of kicking.

Teenager Ray Sweetman spent countless hours with Dallingwood before
he managed to settle the gelding to the point where he could commence
racing as a 5yo.

Dallingwood won six races in Perth between August 1945 and June 1946
with Ron Porter at the reins while Ray Sweetman went through the process
of obtaining his licence to drive in races.

On Easter Saturday, 5th April 1947 Ray Sweetman drove Dallingwood to
victory at Gloucester Park in a heat of the Easter Handicap. It was his
first winner and came at his fifth race drive. The win saw Dallingwood
re-handicapped from 48 yards to 60 yards for the £2000 Easter Handicap
Final on April 7th.

In what was to become the norm for Ray Sweetman, he showed his
initiative in dashing the 8/1 chance Dallingwood around the field to hit
the front with a lap to travel before holding on to win the final by
three yards.

Over the next five years, Dallingwood won a further 12 races in Perth
with Ray Sweetman at the reins and developed into one of the State’s
best fast-class horses.

He qualified for four WA Pacing Cup finals and finished third to Dark
David and Johnnie Robert in the 1947 Cup and fourth behind Bintravis,
Admiral Spear and Happy Man in 1949.

Dallingwood also won the 1951 Winter Cup and finished third to Sea
Born and Tony Derby in the 1948 Fremantle Cup and third to Happy Man and
Brown Sheik in the 1949 Fremantle Cup.

In a career spanning some 36 years, before a disagreement with the WA
Trotting Association’s stewards saw him hand in his licence, Ray
Sweetman drove 491 winners with 283 of them in the city.

Those 491 winners came per medium of 94 different horses and his
average of five wins per winning horse has been approached by very few
drivers across more than 100 years of trotting in Perth.

His best season as a driver was in 1976/77 when he finished second to
Fred Kersley on the Perth Drivers Premiership with 24 winners. In
1977/78 he drove 32 winners in Perth to finish third in the premiership
race.

This was an era when Ray competed against reinsmen of the calibre of
Fred Kersley, Jim Schrader, Lyle Lindau, Phil Coulson, Trevor Warwick,
Les Poyser, Bob Pollock and Kevin Batt.

Ray Sweetman took out a trainers licence in 1947 and the first of his
417 wins as a trainer came at Gloucester Park with Straight Dalla on
1st November 1947.

In the 1977/78 season Ray Sweetman (34 winners) finished second to
Fred Kersley (36 winners) in the Perth Trainers Premiership. Sweetman
had just seven horses in work at any one time that season compared to
Kersley’s stable which had more than 20 in work.

That was Sweetman’s best season as a trainer although he also
finished second in the 1976/77 season with 23 winners and was in the top
five on the premiership on a further four occasions.

The list of the best horses trained by Ray Sweetman is extensive and
includes the likes of Bronze Whaler which won 21 races for Sweetman.
While he was Sweetman’s most prolific winner he also ranks as unlucky in
that in four successive starts as a 3yo he finished second to Mount
Eden.

Sweetman’s other top liners include Binshaw (three wins including the
1970 Easter Cup), Henry Butler (20 wins), Dale Cliffe (19 wins
including the 1971 Harvey Cup), Special Garry 15 wins including the 1979
WA Derby), Wayamba (16 wins including the 1976 Bunbury Cup), Vermillion
(14 wins), Lou Travis (13 wins), Ardcliffe (13 wins including the 1969
Christmas Gift), Tiara Court (13 wins including the 1965 Churchill
Memorial Cup, 1965 Queens Birthday Cup, 1969 Lord Mayor’s Cup and six
Free-For-Alls), Prince Fandango (12 wins), Thor Rise (11 wins including
the 1978 Easter Cup) and Regal Morris (6 wins including the 1981 Bunbury
Cup).

Sweetman rarely drove horses that he didn’t train but he did drive
the Reason Why gelding Rickey Reason to a remarkable 16 wins for trainer
Gordon Couper in a period of nine months between April and December
1971.

Ray Sweetman rightly developed a reputation as a fearless
front-running driver – a record that he was to attribute to the
stewards.

“After I got suspended a couple of times for pushing out I decided
that the best way to stay out of trouble was to lead and I spent
countless hours educating my horses to begin quickly from the standing
start,” he said some years later.

“After fast-work earlier in the week I knew exactly what my horses
were capable of running on the Friday night and I drove then to run that
time”.

Ray Sweetman had an arrangement with Kevin Newbound from Forest Lodge
Stud in Victoria for first option to purchase the progeny of Newbound’s
star broodmare Gay Acres.

Not long after winning the 1979 WA Derby with Special Garry, Sweetman
inspected a seven month old weanling full-brother to his Derby winner
and didn’t hesitate in pulling out his cheque book.

The athletic colt was nurtured and educated by Ray and after he was
named Classic Garry he was to become an icon of harness racing in
Australia.

Ray trained and drove Classic Garry as a 2yo and 3yo winning 11 races
including the Group Two Champagne Stakes as a 2yo and the New Year
Handicap and a heat of the WA Derby as a 3yo before finishing a luckless
second to Smooth Dave in the 1982 Derby final.

Ray Sweetman had become disillusioned with the WATA Stewards shortly
after the WA Derby in 1982 and when Classic Garry resumed racing in
Perth as a 4yo he was trained by Sweetman’s daughter Lyn Bauskis.

After his run-in with the stewards Ray Sweetman switched to training thoroughbreds with a good degree of success.

Trent`s preview

Race 1 (6:13pm local/8:13pm AEST) – 2YO MS PACE – 2100m

Hardest to Beat:
Golden State looks a very talented juvenile for Mike Reed. He is a
half-brother to WA Oaks winner Maczaffair and won well on debut against
top-class filly Miss Sangrial. Recently beat Warriors Code in a trial
which is strong form.

Main Danger: Lord
Rosco is the stablemate to Golden State and he did things wrong on
debut. He has won a trial by a space at Byford and trialled behind Slick
Artist.

Each-Way: Tranquil Charlie
will be in the firing line early and he was narrowly beaten by Antero
last start. His run three starts ago behind Miss Sangrial when third was
good and he should be in this for a long way.

Others:
Slick Artist won on debut at Northam and should come on nicely from
that victory. He has a poor draw like Golden State but looks one of the
leading hopes. Funky Ole Medina and Havarti look next best.

Selections: 11-8-2-12

Race 2 – MS PACE – 2100m

Hardest to Beat: Nathan
Turvey has excellent success with former New Zealand pacers and Danny
Del Vito may follow the blueprint of winning first-up in WA for Turvey. A
winner of two races from 40 starts doesn’t read well but he was beaten
0.6L in 1:57.0 over 2400m at Ashburton.

Main Danger:
Batavia On Fire looks a big improver for Brian Ferguson from barrier
three and his unplaced effort at this venue last time was fine.

Each-Way:
Red West will find this easier than recent efforts when bumping into
Our Zak Whitby and Kerrin Joseph who would easily account for this
field.

Others: Billericay Blue looks an improver from barrier one while My Breaking Dawn and Lombo Louganis have each-way claims.

Selections: 4-3-8-9

Race 3 – MS PACE – 2100m

Hardest to Beat:
McArdles Gem clearly rates on top from barrier one because he will lead
and looks extremely hard to beat. He won an R0-R1 in comfortable
fashion last week and this is a step up but he looks up to it.

Main Danger: Cavalry
Call trails McArdles Gem and Brian Clemens has the four-year-old
gelding in excellent order. Placed at his past two starts, he looks the
most likely to cause an upset.

Each-Way:
Ignite The Passion continues to race well in this grade and tonight
doesn’t look any different. He was runner up behind Allamerican Queen
last week and should run on strongly.

Others: Star
Boss can charge home in some of his races and if he gets a soft trip
close to the speed then he could threaten late. Jet Holme has beaten
stablemate McArdles Gem but a reversal of barrier draws should be a
reversal in the results.

Selections: 2-8-9-4

Race 4 – MS PACE – 2100m

Hardest to Beat: Ruling
Gold drops a long way in grade after running second at Gloucester Park
in a C0-C2 event. He is lightly-raced and was narrowly beaten by
Parisian Partygirl before that. If he finds the lead it’s over tonight,
otherwise may look for cover and attempt to sprint over them late.

Main Danger: Artistry
In Motion doesn’t have a great deal of gate speed but may find more
from barrier one tonight. Recent efforts in this grade have been fair
and looks a big improver.

Each-Way:
Gangbuster has been beaten 20m or more at his first two runs this prep.
This looks suitable if he finds his best but Ruling Gold drawing inside
hurts.

Others: Catastrophic Event
has been placed at four of her past five starts. She will enjoy a soft
run and can figure late. Roman Reign can run on if he drops to the
fence.

Race 5 – MARES MS PACE – 1609m

Hardest to Beat:
Talkerup finished strongly to win at her first start for Gary Hall Snr
at Pinjarra. She was held up before hitting the line well at Bunbury
last week. Expect her to go close.

Main Danger:
Sea Me Smile was excellent at Pinjarra last time winning by 7.8m. She
meets stronger opposition but can run on strongly despite barrier 10
over the sprint-trip.

Each-Way: Harriet
Price wasn’t suited in the breeze last start and a softer run could see
her finishing strongly. She ran well at this track over 2100m back in
December.

Others: Sarah Suvaljko stablemates Its My Lucknow and Racey American are honest and they can run well if they show their best.

Race 6 – WESTBRED MS PACE – 2100m

Hardest to Beat:
Trustytrev if he finds his best form. Recent runs suggest he is only
going fairly but this horse beat Mister Versace and Soho Wall Street in
November. If he is going to show his best then tonight looks that
chance.

Main Danger: Star Armbro had
been racing extremely well with two wins from his past four starts. His
latest effort was only fair but they ran a strong 1:54.5 mile rate which
may explain the performance.

Each-Way:
Aliman had the race shot to pieces two starts ago before stopping as
Northern Emperor gunned him down. Facing the breeze during the 1:54.5
Pinjarra event was too tough and he should either find the lead or gain
cover on Star Armbro.

Others:
Leftrightgoodnight drops in class and can run well despite barrier seven
which doesn’t suit his racing style. Alfs Odyssey is the same and doing
work isn’t his go while Lot Twenty One gets a lovely trail.

Selections: 1-6-4-7

Race 7 – MS PACE – 2100m

Hardest to Beat:
Johnny Disco is the class runner that comes out of strong races such as
The Pure Steel Final. He smashed them at Bunbury three starts ago and
that could happen again.

Main Danger: Ima
Rocknroll Legend looks the only danger to Johnny Disco and he is racing
well. Whether he is up to Johnny Disco’s level could be found out
tonight but expect him to run a very big race.

Each-Way:
Lagoon Beach gets the barrier advantage over remaining runners and he
is racing very well. I don’t think he can beat the leading pair but has
strong place claims.

Others: Mosquito Buzzin, Vertical Four and Auctioneers Elsu look the other hopes of running into a placing.

Selections: 8-1-2-4

Race 8 – GRADUATION MS PACE – 1609m

Hardest to Beat:
Let It Roll will find this a very suitable grade. If he were still with
Justin Prentice he would prove extremely hard to beat. He has
transferred to Brian Clemens and was okay at Pinjarra for the Bunbury
horseman. It must be said that was a very strong race so being okay
there rates well for R0-R1 grade.

Main Danger:
Gottabetheone has left Brian Clemens and gone to Sarah Suvaljko. That
could represent improvement for this and don’t be surprised to see him
running well.

Each-Way: Tuakana
courtesy of barrier one can run well. Two runs at Kellerberrin have been
fine and Bunbury may be more suitable for the three-year-old gelding.

Others:
It looks a very open race and I wouldn’t be surprised if any of them
bobbed up. It does depend upon how well Let It Roll and Tuakana run, but
if they don’t perform then expect at least half a dozen of them to have
winning claims.

Selections: 6-3-1-11.

She has run well over course and distance in the past and
shouldn’t be far away tonight.

Main Danger:
Ay Jays Dream gets barrier one and her past two efforts in this grade
have been good. She may try to lead throughout or relinquish to enjoy a
soft run and should have something to offer late.

Each-Way:
African Rose has a trailing draw which suits and this mare was beaten
just 3m at Kellerberrin two starts back. She worked too hard at that
venue on Sunday and the question will be has she recovered from that
gut-buster.

Others: Playin With Magic
returns to the races for the first time since 2015. She hasn’t trialled
and it’s hard to get a read on what she will produce tonight. Minikita,
Adda Shooting Star and Hilo Marcia look next best.

Selections: 3-1-8-6

Race 2 – MS PACE – 2190m

Hardest to Beat: Davincis
Fiscal goes into the top pick category without much confidence as this
is an open race. She led and won at Kellerberrin in an easier race two
starts ago while her recent fourth-placing was good at Bunbury.

Main Danger:
Madame Gazelle comes up with barrier one and will get a good run
throughout. She either leads or trails but one win from 41 starts is a
concern.

Each-Way: True Signs is very
consistent but has the horror gate of 12 in this event. He could be put
into the race and will look to battle away in the home straight.

Others:
Thatelbe and Cams Resurgence both have front-row draws and can be
driven positive. Sweet Dilemma has a nice trailing draw and shouldn’t be
too far away either.

Selections: 9-1-12-5

Race 3 – MS PACE – 2190m

Hardest to Beat:
Our Danger Mouse has been costly to punters and Gary Hall Snr has moved
the horse out of his care. He now represents Caris Hamilton-Smith and
looks hard to beat from barrier one.

Main Danger: Justlikelindt will have to overcome barrier 12 but did win from the breeze five starts ago so must be considered in this event.

Each-Way:
On My Oath is the stablemate to Justlikelindt and won by a space at
Kellerberrin last start. That was an R1-R2 and this is a C1-C3 which
represents a fair class rise.

Others:
Boy O Boy drops in class but isn’t known for doing work in his races.
You Bettor Watch Me could improve for Luke Edwards and Phil Duggan’s
pair of Four Starzzz Looks and High Speed Chase aren’t completely out of
it.

Selections: 1-12-10-7

Race 4 – MS PACE – 2190m

Hardest to Beat:
Artistic Lilly will be keen to find the lead. If she does it looks race
over but Torrevean Amunindi is drawn inside which could make it
trickier. Expect her to go close.

Main Danger:
Torrevean Amunindi gave a massive sight at Kellerberrin when third
behind Celestial Ruler and Borntobeanartist. If he can hold the lead he
gets his chance.

Each-Way: Responder is a
long way down in class but will be giving them a headstart in the run.
He should close rapidly but tempo could dictate his chances.

Others:
Live Life Fast won by a margin at Kellerberrin two starts ago before a
narrow second. Looks to map handy from barrier four. Kasey Kahne needs
luck in running but has been racing well while Ariki may plug home from
his inside draw.

Selections: 3-2-11-4

Race 5 – WESTBRED MS PACE – 2190m

Hardest to Beat:
Brotha Ofa Gangsta brings strong form into this race with placings
behind Abraxas Blues, Real Zeal and Allamerican Queen. Aldo Cortopassi
will be very close to the speed and he looks hard to beat.

Main Danger:
Torrevean Mio has to overcome barrier seven and drawing outside Brotha
Ofa Gangsta makes it tough. This horse rarely gets beat far and should
run well.

Each-Way: Boo Hoo was placed in town and should be close to them from the inside draw.

Others:
Jay Jays Jet will enjoy a cosy run on the pegs and should have
something left at the finish. Prince Of Whitby was a big win at
Kellerberrin when three-wide the last 1450m and James Hercules was
placed two starts ago at Kellerberrin.

Selections: 4-7-1-8

Race 6 – DISCRETIONARY HANDICAP SS PACE – 2560m

Hardest to Beat:
Rusty Rockets has a 40m handicap to overcome which is not going to be
easy but he is consistent and was a winner off 30m at this track two
starts ago. This race looks open so there isn’t a great deal of
confidence.

Main Danger: Imali looks
suited off a 10m handicap and he almost pinched one at Kellerberrin off
30m. Forget last start when held up and expect a good performance
tonight.

Each-Way: Telham Lane has been
working towards a win and tonight could be his night from barrier one
off the front-line. He hasn’t been placed in eight starts but looks an
each-way prospect tonight.

Others: There
are plenty of chances. Spot The Shark flies the tapes and will be
looking for the lead. Over Loaded gets in well off 10m and the likes of
Presidentmach and Raymond Alexander could also run well.

Selections: 12-7-1-3

Race 7 – MS PACE – 2190m

Hardest to Beat:
Lagoon Stride drops nicely in grade and barrier three looks pretty
good. He would love to lead but Topnotch Mach and Blissntheblack are
quick out and may have the same aspirations.

Main Danger:
Could tonight be the night for Jaxon Fella? His numerical form looks
terrible but he hasn’t been that bad. This looks the right grade for him
and he should be finishing strongly.

Each-Way:
Topnotch Mach looks an improver from barrier one and he was held up two
starts ago at Pinjarra. He isn’t the most reliable horse but gets his
chance.

Others: The entire field. I wouldn’t be shocked if any horse in the field won this race.

Selections: 3-8-1-4

Race 8 – GRADUATION MS PACE – 2190m

Hardest to Beat:
You won’t read this too often, but Barry Giudice trains the horse that
looks hardest to beat. I say that loosely as this race looks very
difficult to assess. Shellwood Chief was narrowly beaten two starts ago
over course and distance so has to be respected on that effort.

Main Danger:
Tuatini comes up with barrier one and Shannon Suvaljko takes the drive.
I am probably picking him due to Suvaljko’s ability as the horse is a
28-start maiden.

Each-Way: Mary Of
Denmark gets the services of Chris Voak which is a huge positive, like
the Suvaljko engagement. She has been good at her past two.

Others:
Most of these. Alpha Forty Seven looks to have no chance after massive
defeats every start but remaining runners could win without surprising.
Best of luck to connections as someone wins for the first or second
time.

Selections: 3-1-6-7.

Harness racing from America usually throws up win pools ranging from in the vicinity of several hundred dollars to just a few thousand dollars maximum. This morning only minutes from jump time the pool 'exploded' from well under a k to over 20k. Runners 1 and 4 appeared to have a 10k win bet placed on each horse. There dividends plummeted while five other runners got out to remarkable odds - check fixed odds markets - compared to tote on numbers 2,3,6,8 and 9. Unfortunately for the punter who must have made a mistake or doesn't understand the pool situatio. It was U.S.A. Hawthorne race eight and the code STP. The winner was 33/1 fixed odds and paid $105 on the tote.

R1: No1 Herrick Roosevelt. Has shown enough to think that he should be leading and winning. That said we haven’t seen enough of 3 Ace Bromac to really judge how good he is. The form line is there through The Publisher to say Herrick beats him but I think he probably went a bit unders at his second run compered to his first. He might be a horse with electric gate speed who knows? Bad Round is racing ok although I would have liked him to win it Tuesday. 9 Topnotch Mach went to the line bolting at his first start for the new stable, they can get them going so is a very interesting runner. El Sunami and The Storm Chief will be running on and Disco Under Fire can possibly cling into 4th using the pegs. Early Quad: 1. FF: 1/3,9/3,9,12/2,3,5,9,10,11,12. 100% costs $20. Might have something a place Topnotch Mach too.

R2: No2 Responder. Pretty keen on this guy. Think Voak can sit him up nice and close and go woosh late. Give The Pacesetter a good chance of crossing but he has tended to get tired late in his races although the 1700m should help. Hot Fraternity is the one who has been in the stronger races. Thought his last run was interesting, had a chance to come off and even have a crack at trying to win it but was hell bent on staying on the pegs. To me that suggests that maybe the horse isn’t going as well as he can. At his best he is the horse to beat. Early Quad: 2,4,7. Win bet No2 Responder.

R3: No5 Hidden Bad. There are easier races going around to punt on than this! I like the engagement of Grantham on the mare, she was getting home ok under her own steam last time. Just think the driver/horse combo may click. There are a few here that are in my punting stable but they can win without me here. Early Quad: You could go the field but I’m staying skinny. 3,5. Back Hidden Bad to win and something small the 3 in case he crosses.

R4: No3 Military Master. Not many horses around racing better than him at the moment. Neither he nor 1 Im Master Charlie have much to say they are blistering early from the mobile but neither is anything else so I thought they could settle one two and potentially dominate. Perhaps Natural Disaster pushes forward off the mobile just to make it a bit more of a race. Plenty of talented horses going well in this but I just think the 1 and 3 dictate, smash the clock home making it too hard for anything out wide making Aussie Delight a blowout chance. Early Quad. Again depending on how you think it will be run you could go field but I’m taking 1,3,6,10. Including Frosty Flyer goes against how I think the race plays out but I loved how he was flashing to the line. Not sure if I’ll have a bet maybe something very small Frosty Flyer.

R5: No6 Ohoka Kentucky. Obviously Soho Wall Street has been fantastic at his last three and has to be hard to beat. I’m not convinced that leading is his go, I’m also not convinced he will even lead as I think Rycroft is a very solid chance of crossing him. I loved Ohoka Kentucky’s last run. If they slacken at any stage he can be put into it or he can sit sprint. EW all day. Main Quad: 2,4,6. EW Ohoka Kentucky.

R6: No2 American Bootscooter. Some cracking talent in this line up. The 1 has good gate speed but I think they would be mad to try hold up, is way unders in early markets IMO. American Bootscooter doesn’t have good gate speed but I think Lewis can get him to do just enough to push through and take it up. From there if he runs up to his last run he wins. A chance they could go too hard early which I think brings 10 Johny Disco into it from three back the pegs. I think Zach Maguire will find this hard. He made up all his ground when they went 29.2 after they went hard early, they are likely to run consistently fast in this making it really hard for him to get into it. I still have to include him but if he wins will go up a notch in my rating. Harry Hoo was too big last week not to have, I think Clint has chosen the wrong horse. Could lead, could get a good sit so must go in. Main Quad: 2,3,9,10. I want to back Bootscooter but he is well found in the market. Think it will drift if not will have something EW Harry Hoo or Johny Disco.

R7: No3 Run Oneover. This should be an absolute belter. I’m not sure who leads out of the inside 3. I just figure regardless of where he lands Run Oneover can just keep running the sectionals. A lot of chances though. Excitusinthecity is going to win one soon. Sheer Rocknroll is obviously stepping out of mares grade but mares in form, you just have to have them. Boaz was ok first up. Keep going back to Run Oneover running them into the ground. Main Quad: Just going to anchor the 3, don’t want to play much with the quad with it including the trot.

R8: No10 Sunnys Little Whiz. I haven’t seen a trot race for months before watching a couple of replays tonight so I’m no guide! I do have good memories though of Sunnys Little Whiz. Taking 1 Kell Road Kid because it steps, 6 Imhavinaball because of how it ran through the line on May 15. Leaving out Hudson Bay. Main Quad: 1,6,10

R9: No2 Cyclonedomic. I had something small this guy tues and he ran ok. The 1 gets out well, have a sneaky feeling Roberts might be able to sneak in behind it. Couple of dollars EW at the 60/1.

R10: No4 Ready For Takeoff. What a race!!!! Some well deserving connections of one of these is going to get a thrill. Ready For Take Off has done nothing since arriving but I thought he was a good looking horse so that alone gets him on top.

Good luck all.

Driving honours to Ryan Warwick with a treble.

Some interesting prices tonight...not surprising Shardons Rocket was a drifter from barrier 9 , don't like knocking the 12 year old but on face value last effort at Pinjarra ( $1.20 ) was ordinary at best. Opened a tick over $3 today blew to $4.80 but was probably entitled to be double figures. In the same race Attack On Command who beat Shardons Rocket on his merits at Pinjarra paid a whopping fixed odds dividend of $12 a place. How they had that much difference in price between those two a mystery.

Had some time for Abraxas Blues ever since his debut run , well driven tonight , continues to show promise. Been well placed by the trainer . In the same race The Marble Ridge just because draws barrier one combined with the will lead trick starts at just $5. Goodness gracious.

Clever confident drive by Jocelyn Young in the last on Gonzos Shadow. The favourite in that race went to the barrier around even money. A double goodness gracious. Another barrier one ticket to unders territory.

Welcome back to talented mare Tricky Styx who looks extremely hard to beat in the Breeders Stakes. Handy mares Dodolicous , Sheer Rocknroll and Foxy Dame appear the main dangers but the barrier draw has seen Tricky Styx open up deep into the red.
Going to throw two roughies on my first four ticket..# 1. Forever Remembered possibly the old soft run on the leaders back trick and the other one drawn directly behind Tricky Styx an excellent 4th two runs ago then came out and won at 50/1 last week #11. Glenferrie Arch who is around $9 a place on some of the corporates. Tough going tomorrow night but there might be another win down the track for Glenferrie Arch.

Good meeting coming up again with some quality and a few good clashes with limited hopes in later races.

Race 4. # 4. Kid Colossus a much better run at big odds last week when well driven. If can slot in from the four gate think will be hard to beat. In the same race if speed right on #12. Disturbia is a good long priced roughie that can play a part .

Race 6. Only three possible winning chances #4. Mighty Mr. Sharkey #9. Ultimate Flyer #11. Ima Rock Legend. Keen on first four betting this race...think those three with even luck will run 1,2,3 or at worse 1,2,4. The only other three in the race that can possibly fill 3rd or 4th are #3.Tempest Cullen #8.Hez The Artisan and #10. Hy Leexciting. The rest a million to one.

Race 7. Same again with only three possible winning chances...the stablemates back from a spell #6. Our Jericho and #9. Jambiani along with #7. Our Connoisseur who was huge first run back from spell should dominate the race.

Hoof note : Different race but Driven who went to the barrier favourite at headquarters on Friday night goes around at approx. $81 at Pinjarra.

Mentioned this on the GP forum but think it deserves a special thread. Winners are never easy to select at the best of times and GP can be tricky so to throw out six winners last night was an amazing effort plus Three Kings second at double figure odds who was a shade unlucky , beaten in a tight photo and lodged a protest.
@Gilgameshs' six winners and tote prices.
Harry Hoo $1.30
Change Of Address $19.80
Zach Maguire $3.70
Heez On Fire $3.40
Importer Exporter $4.80
Pick My Pocket $8.90

First thing will say...yes know it's 1000 times easier from the grandstand.
Melbourne Trot 4 tonight at Geelong the replay on Harness Australia is worth having a look at for how not to drive from three back the pegs. The favourites were leader and leaders back with not a lot of depth in the race...the 20/1 chance Fleshing was three back the pegs trailing through nicely behind those two. For some inexplicable reason down the back straight all the driver wants to do is get off the pegs with breeze horses ( at long prices ) about to call it a night. Totally blocked and hampered from then on whilst of course the two favourites skip clear and the bolter four back the pegs takes his run and runs a clear third.
No drama if there were two bolters running leader , leaders back but when you have the two main hopes cruising along in front of you and your 20/1 and can't win there is only one place to stay and that's three back the pegs and run into the placings. It's not brain surgery. Anyway as they say...rant over!

Start number 311 coming up today for 12 year old Shardons Rocket looking for win number 45. Barrier 2 with the calm unassuming Morgan Woodley in the spider and a stablemate in barrier one , an easy lead should be there for the taking...at around $1.20 let's hope so anyway. Once in front it should be a case of game..set..match. Another winner for the crafty genius Tony Svilicich beckons with this great old campaigner.

Should be an entertaining meeting.

R1: No6 Blinding Light. I thought Celestial Ruler was the likely early leader, maybe hands up to Red Hot Major? Looks a run on race to me, Blinding Light looks to be that horse. EQ:2,6,7

R2: No2 Alfa Queen. She looks the leader to me and excels in that roll. Foxy Dame blotted her copy book from the stand but she is racing in better form than these its just what trip does she get to win it? EQ:2,8.

R3: No8 Naughty Maravu.I've got it pegged that he is going to run the arm in order to keep Franco Rayner behind him which I think will be the race winning move. If they over do it Three Kings could be a blowout. I cant come into Skippy Rascal particularly at the early price but I didn't have him in it regardless. EQ:5,8,9.

R4: No3 Campora.Should be able to get to the moving line pretty easy with the 11 going to the fence. I think he is a better chaser and has the late splits to get over them. American Bootscooter and Im Mister Charlie should keep it a fast enough tempo so that Just Bet On Black isn't just gifted the race although he is obviously the one to beat. Stroganoff leaders back has to run well. EQ:1,3,10. 100% costs $54.

R5: No4 Braeview Bomber. Has had a bit of hype about him this campaign without getting anything done yet but I thought this was a really open race, jnr can get him across the 2 and 3 into the moving line early with Erskine Range and Condrieu giving him cover, then just get out and run on past them at the 100/1. Condrieu was fantastic the other day in the breeze, if he happened to get across would be very hard to beat but can win from the breeze. Rycroft was good first up but this is a lot tougher even with the draw. American Boy is the run on horse for me, happy to take on Galactic Star with what looks to be a tough trip and Phoenix Warrior with the jnr on. QD:1,4,6,8.

R6: No3 Ela Gant Player. I thought she could lead throughout here. Miss Sangrial will be looking to do the same but i'm pretty keen on the Bond runner. Obviously if they over do it Cott Beach comes into play but they did get home pretty slow in the race she swooped at GP and she had a torrid run last sat. QD:3,4

R7: No3 Jack Mac. How do you go past him. QD:3

R8: No5 Must Be Nice. Thought Lagoon Stride would lead with Must be Nice outside it, a position I think it can win from. The couple of weeks between runs the query. If they over do it Out Back Joe and Soho Wallstreet will be running on, a hard thing to do over the sprint trip. QD:4,5,7,8. 100% costs $32.

R9: No5 Ima Rocknroll Legend.

R10: No3 Military Master. Wont be betting the last two.

Good luck all.
