Am carrying on a bit about this and apologies in advance but let's play scenario here for race 4 at Narrogin.
A casual or first time punter looks at the Giddy Up form. He knows leaders prevail at the trots, looks at No 1 Terraforce, see's price needed at $34 and says no thanks, too rough, so he goes okay, I'll look at the fav....Brookies Jet...$2.80....geez pretty short, everything else in the race is "has claims, each way chance, has claims again, novelty hope"....bugger, too hard, another middie of Carlton dry thanks love, I'll sit this out. Turnover immediately lost.
Terra force wins, he checks the divvies, geezus, $3.60 and $1.70......what happened there? What about Brookies, crikey its paid $2.00 the place....stuff the Red hots, this is a joke.....now I know, that is simplified, an uninformed casual punter having a beer and a bet after work but thats what we are dealing with ....he doesn't understand expected prices, ratings, he looks at $34 and assumes that is an expected SP ......and that is why Giddy Up needs to giddy up out of here.

Tommorrow night prepost is just $2.90 to win! Admittedly a terrible field and barrier 1 but good luck just the same. Doesn't really say a lot for the others if Red is a big chance and clear cut second favourite. Does look a deadset quinella however Cheeryrose leading and Red taking the sit and running at least second.

Old Victorian Trainer Ken Wills aged 86 moved upstairs this week and he had a number of close ties to WA. One of his very good horses, Bret Armagh, a very nice going and speedy horse was a visitor to Perth in the '70's. He won heats of the Pacing Cup, contested the infamous 1974 Interdominion won by Hondo Grattan when half the field was knocked out of the race..he placed 3rd in the Final but was disqualified for a positive swab after the final....I recall quite a bit of discussion about that particular swab enquiry. Another of Ken Will's better horses was Dale Spring who after finishing a very successful career on the track, was put to stud and was the sire of Juniors Image, winner of the 1971 Interdominion at Addington, who of course, history tells us, was also disqualified on a very, very dubious positive swab charge.

Seven races Monday and five long odds on favourites. Bunbury on Saturday night and Albany last night complete three meetings in a row of races dominated by odds on favourites. If the powers that be can't see their is a proliferation of odds on favourites in Western Australian trotting they are not looking in the right spot. For punters with big fat wallets to play with and put there 5k on to win 1k with the fixed odds corporates that's fine. However for the average punter - the lifeblood of the industry - it's not good enough.

It wins a $7000 C0/C1 at GP at its last start on Tuesday and tonight it goes around in a $3000 R0/R1 at Northam...field selected in reverse order.....and draws barrier 1. I mean good luck to them, I hope it wins again, it's a handicapping special as such. Now if I owned any of the other horses in that race......and good luck to all the connections because with respect, there isn't a lot of ability amongst them...but if I did, I would be spewing that we have a system that allows Beat The Heat to even be in the race. It's not a handicapping system, it's a bizarre game of being able to take advantage of the system and manipulate your chances, repeating, good luck to the Filardos, they have done nothing wrong.
Stating the bleeding obvious here but mare lines with Albatross continue to put runs on the board, the latest I noticed is the Dream Offer, by Dream Away with Albatross her grand sire on the mares side. So far, 5 foals, 4 winners and an unraced 2yo, all inside 1.57.3 with a total of 47 wins....Our Bettor Dream 1.57.3, 12 wins and $183k, Bettor Offer with the Bonds 1.53.0, 14 wins $181k, Delightful Offer also with the Bonds,1.53.6, 16 wins and $205k and last nights Ballarat winner Can't Refuse (who raced at GP last May and ran 2nd in the NSW Derby in 1.54.8) 5 wins and $97k. Fair chance the 2 year old Ultimate Offer will be able to run. Why post this? well a little horse called HectorJayJay is by Dream Away with Albatross as his grand sire on the dams side. So if your off to a yearling sale this year and you see one by Dream Away out of a mare with Albatross as its Grandad or a yearling from a mare with the same cross.....ummm....at least have a look at it. As you can see, boredom is engulfing my life!!!!
