Another of those "got a sore leg, didn't race much" deals but when I ran, I was a pretty serious horse. From my 42 starts, I can boast a remarkable strike rate of 47.6% wins and 85.7% placed. My mum was just an okay horse.....unlike fellow winners of the not terribly prestigious Great Southern Derby like Red Vicar and the brilliant Volutis, she never reached great heights with just 5 wins. In the breeding barn, of my 7 brothers and sisters, all have won races, my sister of a similar name was a 2yo group winner but the rest of them were pretty ordinary. I was definitely the pride of the family with $300k plus in race earnings.
I was very fond of "picket fences" putting together strings of 7,3 and 5. And although I won some very big races with group 1 wins at age 2 and 3, it was what I ran 2nd in that I became somewhat famous for. How unlucky can a horse be to run 2nd in 2 Group 1 Derby's, a Group 2 Classic and the best Group 1 classic 4yo race held in WA. Breaking down after my 4yo days, I sadly left my lifelong trainers establishment but was bought back to racing in the care of an about to retire and very much scaled down high profile trainer who produced me in magnificent fettle for one last campaign.....he very appropriately engaged my former trainers son to drive me to one last GP win. Sore "leg itis" again took over and that was it. In spite of only a moderate breeding pedigree, I made a pretty reasonable go of it in the breeding barn much to the surprise of many. Modesty aside, I was what many reckoned to be a damn handsome lad, some even said stunning.

I was only very lightly raced and can boast an unusual pedigree. My sire is of interest as he was only a moderate producer with less than 100 lifetime winners and was somewhat unique in that both his immediate sire and dam shared the same maternal grandmother. He was hardly a household name or a first choice stallion.
My regular driver was a relative unknown at the time I was racing and remains so to this day, only making occasional short term appearances at the track.
As a 2 year old, I was completely unremarkable and can boast of a single 2nd placing from 3 attempts. My last try as a 2yo saw me finish 8th to a horse that only won 5 provincial races in its lifetime for a lowly $30k in lifetime stakes, less than one twelth of what I would eventually earn......and I was so far down the track, I was in danger of being declared distanced. How embarrassing!!!
However as a 3 and 4 yr old, I started to perform brilliantly, winning 2 group 1's, a group 2 and a group 3. I then got a sore leg, didn't race for ages but emerged with a new driver to win a very strong group 3 Country Cup. I never won at group level again but was placed at group 1,2 and 3 prior to being retired. Uniquely, my last 2 wins were in succession from 50 m handicaps at a provincial track with my trainer driving me, giving him a 100% winning strike rate on the only 3 times that he drove me in races. My lifetime best mile rate, by today's standards, is very moderate indeed, but make no mistake, I could run alright...and I did....when it really mattered.

When the penny dropped ( took a few minutes) realised what he meant ..the average size of a King Brown snake is about 1 to 1.5 metres and that is the margin the horse in the breeze is from the leader. I expect him to lead and steal a soft quarter somewhere, some of these possibly aren't as good as they are going to be priced at I'd suspect. 5 Lightning Jolt is another one who at 12/1 plus is worth a play as he will be a sleeper and has more than enough ability.

R4: I have all of 2,4,5,10,11,12 as winning chances and I could easily have missed it so leave alone.

R5: No4 Ideal Alice wouldn't want to be too short but she is definitely the one I have on top. Sit in behind Firebomb and Chris Voak gets beaten in the run to the line by another one that sat behind him! Some chance any of 6,7 or 8 could cross Firebomb hence why I don't want ideal Alice too short.

R6: Suspect Dior Mia More is going to be infinitely better back to the 2100m, very happy to play her.

R7: If I had to take one it would be No4 Major Pocket because I think it's very good and likely to get the 1,1 on Heza Head Honcho. 3 El Barcelona will sit on their backs and I think runs 2nd (needs to get around the GP bends), HHH 3rd. Not convinced on Maczaffair yet.

R8: Forget about form No3 Captain Underfire Bob Mellsop handle bars down at the start, big salute at the finish!

R9: No1 Another Ayjay went like a train at Wagin last Friday. Get your pay packets ready!!! Take the first fours anchoring 10,11,12 because Ferguson will be sprinting hard that last lap on the leader and they'll just follow him through.

R10: Rocknroll Whitby likely to be well in the market but I could not have a Suvaljko TRAINED horse with stolen money at the moment. Aussie Delight can sit in the breeze and win but I wouldn't be shocked if Suvaljko crossed early and then handed up just trying to earn.

R1: No4 Mach Time should be $1.10. Quad 4
R2: Think this is a great novelties race around the 1,2,5,10. The only other number I could entertain is the 4 Znana if Matty White takes a relaxed approach at the start and lets it across him effectively giving it the 1,1 on Ima Connoisseur. Normally take novelties something to win anchoring something else but this race just seems perfect to box them up as the 2 bond horses won’t put much pressure on each other and with the sprint home it will just be too hard for anything back in the field. Quad 1,2,5,10. May yet still throw in the 4.
R3: I thought my old mate Walter James was a very nice run last week and Troy Lewis may get to just bowl along out front and be very hard to catch. The fly in the ointment may be Authorised attacking early which I think could well and truly cause the pace to be on and is probably more likely to happen than to not. In that case the 7,8 and 9 come right into it. Firebomb has found his form and stays all day, Sir Tosti Mach was just as good a last run as his wins and I still can’t sack Major Catastrophe. Quad 1,7,8,9.
R4: Tough race. I may have something on 3 Tommy Be Good- he is racing well and seems a sensible horse so the stand no bother, things could work out that he might even find the top. The other one is 6 False Promise because he is so consistent but I’d only be looking to back him if he was getting out to near double figure odds which he isn’t likely to do. Wide in Quad 1,2,3,6,7. 100% costs $80 or $100 with the 4.
R5: There’s never really been much between 1 Major Reality and 2 Lady Willoughby, clearly Major Reality holds the aces here. Should lead and can do it as she likes, should win. 2 Lady Willoughby, 10 Paid Twice and 11 Bonny Under Fire look montys to fill the minor money. I’m giving some FF claims to Sea Me Smile, she isn’t running at her best but I think the pegs are there for her with C Hall grabbing hold at the start. If Sovereign Faith happens to get up into it if they ease off at some stage she has FF claims also. FF:1/2,10,11/2,8,10,11/2,4,8,10,11. 100% costs $27. Quad:1,2.
R6: The babies races should be great. The obvious appears Doalittlerocknroll runs to the front and is hard to beat. I can’t go past 4 Beach Goddess. I love a 2yr old that keeps making progression and I really love one that can sit 3 deep solo as long as she did in the heat and finish off that strong (Reminds me of Rich And Spoilt in the Pearl). Should sit close enough to be a chance to run over the top of them. I thought Aqueensomewhere may have been flattered by the opposition but is clearly a winning chance and you can’t sack Red Hot Roxy. I’m with the obvious but will be having a good go (for me anyhow) on Beach Goddess. Quad 3,4,6,9.
R7: No confidence the colts division. I’ll be taking the 3 favs (3,4,5) the quad as they look the ones to beat but the others wouldn’t have to jump out of the ground to beat them. Thought The Real Ideal looked the best talent in the heats but what sort of run does he get?
R8: This could be a real spectacle or a fizzer. I think Change Stride possibly has the speed to hold out Elegant Christian and if they don’t try it’s effectively race over so you might as well have a crack. So then does Mighty Flying Thomas just let Change Stride over? Probably not! I think MFT might just keep his legs up under CS then Elegant Christian continues on, takes the front and wins. I won’t be having a bet other than quad here as I wouldn’t mind them holding him from a spectacle viewpoint but I will take him one out in the quad as I think he wins with even luck. Quad:5. 100% costs $24.
R9: No6 Glenlochar should be leading this race and I think he’s a good bet. I don’t think you could possibly miss a collect if you play around with 6,7,8,9,10 in the novelties.
R10: The 2 and 3 look leader/leaders back in this (no particular order) and extremely hard to beat. 7 Cyclone Mitch looks to get up outside the leader really easy and is finally starting to show something like the form I thought he would for Svilicich. I think if not pressured too hard for the top early Vultan Tin can hold him in the run to the line. Novelties 2,3,7 the way to finish off.

Haven't written my thoughts up for a bit but have been watching them a bit closer of late so here we go, maybe some to put a line through.

R1: No1
Showstopper is a flukers chance of
leading throughout but Mynameskenny should
be winning and is worthy of being $1.40 pop. He’s likely to push forward and at
worst end up in the breeze where he should be too good but in all likelihood will
just run to the front. I can’t have Commander Chappell as I can’t see it
getting a suitable run to win. Quad: 1,5.

R2: Although it
has drawn 9 I really think this race is going to pan out well for Shirlz Sensation. Grab hold and track
the good mare into it, each way all day. A lot of speed off the front line but
will they use it? My view is Jnr has to try and cross on Delightful Jade so
just that alone should create a nice tempo. Thought Everton VC was entitled to
finish off a bit better last start and Am Opulent should have ran straight past
them at her last start but both have to be included on ability and draws. Major
Catastrophe is going to win another one as soon as things pan out for him so
have to throw him in too. If the 2 crosses then hands up to the 3 I’m yelling
kahoots. Quad: 1,2,4,8,9,11.

R3: Really looking forward to this clash. If Sheer Rocknroll finds the top she is capable of running extremely
fast sectionals, as good as Dior Mia More is I’m not sure that she’d be able to
get past her. That said I think that relies on Robbie Williams having a similar
opinion as I think his filly has the speed to hold her at the start and may want
to do that and wait for Dior (I wouldn’t but he may and what do I know). Some
of the other fillies are capable of running blistering times themselves but I
can’t see them winning here. Quad: 2,4.

R4: I backed Suspicious life when he won his first
race several months ago and I thought he would be flat out winning another one.
4 additional wins later he looks a massive chance on a Friday night and is
flying. If he steps like he did last week even with the 2 good beginners inside
him I’d have him leading and very hard to beat. If he was a bit slow and the 1
or 2 hold up they are some chance but they certainly don’t win out of turn. 7
False Promise steps well, has a good late kick and is likely to be on the fence
in the front third of the field so has to go in. Can’t see a breeze horse, don’t
think I’m Riddick will wont to do it off 30m first up so that leaves it open to
Rocky Marciano to head around there and he was very strong last start. The one
I’m really interested in if she is big odds is Indomitable. I thought she was a real flashing light on and just
after the post last week. She takes a while to hit her form and I think she
might be hitting it. If she handles the stand and isn’t too far back she is
definitely quicker than these over a 500m dash. I can’t have Swimbetween the
flags because I’ve been on him lately and am sick of making excuses, don’t see
him getting the right trip to play a part. Similarly can’t see how Mach’s A
Pearler can play a part. Quad: 3,7,9,10.
100% costs $96.

R5: I have to
stick with the one I’ve been a wrap on the whole way through New World Order.
12 is not the worst draw and I see them running along in this enough for him to
take another step in his progression and finishing off over the top of them.
Interestingly you’d have to think if Brown wanted to he could probably cross
them again but does he go again? I would haha. I was on Natural Disaster a
place last week and I think if he had of gone to the outside instead of going
to the inside he could have easily done what Ideal Tyson did for 3rd
so he has to be in. Harry Hoo is going to like this class, realistically you
could like a whole heap of them. Don’t
like the 1,2,3,7 in this race (actually like Batman as a horse though) anything
else with a bit of luck in running can play a part, I have no real idea how it
is going to be run and 2 is likely to be well in the market so an open race! Quad: 5,6,8,12.

R6: I couldn’t be
backing anything in this. Leda McNally should be leading and be hard to beat
but she just isn’t the mare she once was, I have no confidence in her. Pacific Warrior has a massive class
edge but his last campaign wasn’t good. Still his class should nearly get him
there. Chief Thunder Cloud and Might Flying Thomas were both great runs last
week, they will both need to be near career bests to win this from those draws
but can. Wouldn’t think the winner would come from outside these four but
wouldn’t be totally shocked. Quad:
2,4,7,8.

R7: Ideal Tyson looks the leader to me and
really I don’t think he’s going to cop much pressure, if he can find his happy
place I actually think he has to be an EW chance and the biggest danger to the
fav. Very hard to go past Lets Chase The
Dream, he has to do it himself here though but I wonder does that just mean
he wins by further??? Things just fall in to place for some horses and Chicago
Bull is one of those. I don’t know how he wins this but I didn’t have him 1,1
last time either! Maybe Can’t Refuse’s luck turns and he wins his 2nd
race? My money though is on him not being driven for luck and getting off the
fence only for the horse that takes his place and his luck run to beat him
home. Driven soft he has to be a chance but they all need Lets Chase The Dream
to be off his game to win it. Quad: 1,7.

R8: I’m an
unabashed Dredlockrockstar fan and I
think he can lead throughout in this. He obviously isn’t going to get it all
his own way. Ima Connoisseur is racing very well but is likely to be under any
price I’d want on him. I have a bit of a feeling connections might think he
will just waltz to the front, I see Glenlochar chancing his arm early and possibly
even getting across Connoisseur (in the moving lin) causing chaos to any
prerace thoughts. Obviously if there is a chance of a hot early speed then
there is some chance of a blowout. Any of Ohoka Kentucky, Lettuceriprita,
Lagoon Stride or Fernleigh Rebel could swoop with the right run. Quad 1,3. 100%
costs $64. Smaller div 7,9,10,11. Keener on the early quad.

R9: No bet. Paid
Twice should be leading and hard to beat again but I’m not keen to back with
Troy Lewis on, good luck to him though.

R10: Good luck if
you’re trying to get out on this! He hasn’t won since August 2013 but Atomic
Chip was a massive run the other night. He has earned $71 630 in his life time
so is by no means a mug and does have the gate speed to hold up, I’d like to
see him win. If Tommy Be Good gets
to any sort of a price I’ll back him as it is a big step back in class for him
and they won’t be breaking any land speed records late I wouldn’t think,
otherwise I’ll leave it alone.
