Christmas time 1929 I sprung into life and I'm still going strong to this day...you could now say I'm a grand old lady. However I have had my share of trials and tribulations..during World War 2 I wasn't allowed to go to work at night due to fear of air attack by the Japanese. A lot of technological changes in society has also seen many changes in me. I've met and worked with many great people during my lifetime including celebrities and royalty, also a few crooks and scallywags too , but I wouldn't have changed a thing. Unfortunately during 1991 I lost my brother , good fellow he was , giving me breaks from work from time to time, I'm still living and working in exactly the same area I was born.
Occasionally I hear whispers around the tracks about people wanting to move me from my home , however the day that happens will be the day that I die...who am I and what was my brothers name ?

Great to see 18 2yr olds running around, I was starting to wonder where they all were.

Interesting clash for the 3yr olds race 5. I see Campora is $2.20 into $1.50 with 365, is far from the genuine article yet and I wouldn't be surprised if K Hawkins kicks up under it on Soho Lexington so I don't expect it to be a walk in the park, hopefully see a progression from New World Order and I will probably have something on because I think he's going to end up over the odds but hard to really back with confidence because at some stage he will have to do some work.

R5: No1 Tactical Strike does not win out of turn but he should win this race. His danger is himself as he is very strong and I have no doubt he will pull Madison Brown's arms out so every horse in the race should get their chance but although his record might not show it on his day he does go better than these.

R6: No12 Karlas Lucky Son. I think I've found one here that is really worth a punt. $30/$5.50 with 365 at the moment. Has M Tenardi on who I think is a pretty good pegs driver which is exactly where I expect him to head and exactly where I think you are going to want to be in this because I think the majority of them are going to end up very tired over the 2500m trip. Think there might be some cat and mouse with all the Padberg runners, think Baptisme Of Fire will want to hand up to Cayenne El which I suspect Prentice will be awake to and kick up on Bet The Max. Barkers Hall and Dee Divito both have a bit of early speed too and I'd be pretty sure Barry Giudice will be going forward. This all adds up to them going faster than their ability allows and at the $30 Karlas Lucky Son has to be a run on chance, only has to go as well as it did first up.

R7 I think Hes Talking steps to the front so that has to make him the horse to beat.

R8: Nice of them to put a race like this on as the last leg of the quaddie! Due to their driver/trainer combos Four Heartbeats is $1.75 and Arlandia is $2.20, on their ability they do not deserve to be those prices.

After Justwatchme Lombo led all the way at Narrogin last night paying better than $12 on the tote saw that it had the big '0' next to his name in the form guide. That run was at GP. So was curious to have a look at that run via replay.Even though finishing last at GP was blocked for a run several times up the straight going to the line not all that far from the winner with something in the locker. In an average field last night after the GP run was a legitimate 3/1 chance , when leading easily 6/4. The 7 sitting on its back and over 4k on the first four. The moral of the story some '0' s and 8s and 9s etc in the form guide can tell a completely different story. That was a very unlucky 0. Was hitting the line with steam diving for gaps looking for a run.

2 winners from the Bathurst meeting last night had WA connections. Millwood Daisy won a heat of the Tiara Gold, first foal of WA Oaks winner Millwood Meg who was a $300k plus stakeswinner. Millwood Daisy is part owned by Solid Gold Standardbreds, the racing arm of owner John Lohman who raced all those "Gold" horses some time back...the brilliant Prince of Gold, Aphrodite Gold etc. Trained by Cran Dalgetty and being by Art Major has a very stout pedigree behind her. Then, the last race was won by Effronte, a Rock N Roll Hanover 3YO first foal out of WA Oaks winner and genuine super star multiple Group 1 winning mare Fleur De Lil (a million dollar stake earner). Fleur De Lil is a brother to the 1.51 horses Our Galvinator and Miss Galvinator amongst 7 other winners. She ran 4th in a WA Pacing Cup, and on that pedigree, Effronte should be a very nice horse.

Whilst doing some research for the Bridgetown Cup winners list, the prefix "Disco" came up in a lot of Bridgetown results, of course that being the breeding prefix for long time and highly successful Bridgetown breeders John and Sue Awcock. The list of very substantial "Disco" horses that have won major races was added to by Johnny Disco taking out the Caduceus Club Classic at GP last Friday, to join Disco Diva 1.56.0, Disco Fella 1.57.0 (10 wins), Disco Flyer 1.52.4, 21 wins, $186k now in USA, Disco Force 1.53.8 27 wins, $268k now in USA, Disco Invasion 1.58.9 20 wins, Disco Josu 1.56.9, Disco Lights 1.57.5 12 wins, Disco Maker 1.57.1 10 wins, Disco Spirit 1.56.5, Disco Sulinka 1.57.7 and then for something different, after switching Disco to the end of the name......Roll On Disco 1.58.3, 9 wins, Dalmore Disco 1.56.7, 12 wins, Midnight Disco 1.58.5, Hilmore Disco, Elite Disco etc etc
And why all this success? It all traces back to his foundation mare Madam Butterfly, an unraced Bob Humphries mare out of ButterflyTrunkey (dam of Tailamade Lombo no less), and who has been an absolute broodmare gem for them...quality broodmares have been, are and always will be the basis of successful breeding and I reckon John Awcock has plenty of examples to back that up....and Johnny Disco may be one of his best horses as he develops. Johnny is out of the very well performed Dalmore Disco....his formula is working.

I think it was VK who asked about Bridgetown Cup winners....well, claiming overtime rates here because they keep their history very well hidden ...and it's very sketchy at best. Trotting started in Bridgetown in 1927/28 at the Showgrounds where it stayed until 1949. It was the 6th WA track to have lights installed....it shifted up to its current location in 1950. From 1990, there is a reasonable record but with abandoned meetings and a few years of uncertainty when it was about to be shut down, well this is the best I can come up with ....but I am working on a few old contacts and it might be a work in progress. Some pretty handy horses and some fairly ordinary ones, if you can recall all of them, then you have a punting problem .haha.(Stakes earned in brackets where it is of some sizeable amount)
1991 Matai Fella ($60k) John Graham, 1992 Prize Prince Ray Decampo, 1993 Bay View Prince Andrew DeCampo, 1994 Lazy Jay Kim Prentice, 1995 Satineeze ($60k) Terry Purnell, 1996 Hijack Harry ($100k) Joe Suvaljko, 1997 Wenatchee ($100k) John Graham, 1998 Dallas Dundee Ross Ashby, 1999 Lock and Load ($135k) I think M.J.Saw but not sure, 2000 dunno, might not have been run, 2001, dunno, might not have been run, 2002 Hillview Lightning ($106k) Andrew DeCampo, 2003 Cecilia ($66k) Andrew DeCampo, 2004 Ohoka Ace ($437k) Andrew DeCampo ...easily the best modern day winner of the Cup, 2005 Uni Bound ($103k) Kade Howson for Greg Harper, 2006 Left Pride ($151k) Kevin Keys, 2007 Disco Invasion ($119k) Shannon Suvaljko ...one of about 200 "Disco" horses the Awcocks have bred, most of them pretty decent, 2008 Levity's Rainbow ($75k) Ross Keys, 2009 The Vice Captain ($148k) Justin Prentice for Andrew DeCampo, 2010 dunno....maybe Knot JustaFireball for Kyle Harper but hold all tickets, 2011 Clancy McGuire for Matt White and Andrew DeCampo, 2012 Meeting abandoned, 2013 Reuben Brogden ($161k) Kim Young for Gary Elson, 2014 Major Catastrophe ($315k) Dean Miller, 2015 Kimba Bay Kaiden Hayter and 2016 Three Bears ($67k plus) Matt White. Best I can come up with.
