Today found an old trot book from over 20 years ago....Only kept the books when had a win , they were very quickly discarded after a losing night. Many bit the dust. Several trainer/drivers that some ( JJ ) may know where they are now and a memory of them ,a few obscure ones ,can just remember after all these years... Simon Lowings, Michael Hardie , Kevin Fowler , Wayne Reid , Glenn Pellew, Barry Morrison , Graham Tindale, Neville Brindley, Charlie and Nick Luca , Reg Musgrave ,Garry Jones , Robert Donald , Greg Barrodeen, Terry Naylor , Brad Seinor, Jason Fry , Travis Bettesworth , Owen Gilbride , Craig Goldfinch , Peter Arthur , Jason Vella ... Colin Olsen was another that I can remember too from around that era. Some may still be involved in the game but I'm sure many more have gone. Garry Jones use to drive a few handy ones , he could be a bit of a mixture , some great drives and a few shockers too!

Noticed on the HRA website a very smart time registered for Another Ceebee of 1.49.8, second only to Adore Me's 1.47.7. I data base all that sort of stuff to refer back to and as I hadn't ever heard of the horse, and it was the 2nd fasted mile rate ever recorded in Australia...ever....so, I start to look a bit further. Time was set over 2079 metres making it an even more remarkable mile rate....hmmm...... at King Island in the middle of Bass Strait or wherever .....on a 2 race card......in a $3000 R1 or better of 4 horses. Only other race on the card was a 3YO+ over 2079m and the winner here was Lildudewifattitude who loafed along to record a 1.50.3 mile rate. Even more remarkable, both were from a standing start.

Doesn't anyone ever check this stuff before posting it on a national website of official records....surely someone at King Island must have gone "Umm, i think the timekeeper has stuffed up" or the track distance is wrong.....or maybe, we might just have the next serious challenger to Beautide. Is the system so automated a time like that wouldn't be flagged as an error? Anyone know anything about King Island....I had no idea they even raced there.

Put my bets on the 2 WA trots meeting last night - recorded the races as out last night - and are watching them this morning

Race 5 at Albany i had 3 bets $10 ew Just Living Dream ( won) and Highview Jackie ( unplaced ) and i got the trifecta for a $1 dividend

When the interim dividends went up on the screen - the trifecta paid $222 and the winner $12.20

However no 1 Goods Times Ahead ($1.50 pop) and no2 Celestial Ruler ( about 20-1) both ran in the race but the Tab have got them both as late scratchings - i watched the race - there was a false start - no 1 galloped - in the 2nd attempt both both 1 and 2 began ok - the 2 was behind the leader !! - the no 1 came of the pegs and sat in the breeze - but wilted and ran well back

Anyhow the trifecta because of the bewildering late scratchings went from $222 to $38 and a paltry $27 on the NSW tote - and the winner paid $5.30 not $12.20 but amazingly $15 fixed

I went to the Australian Harness Racing to look up the Albany results - but amazingly havent got them ( they allways have them )

I think there has been yet another major problem between Country WA trots and the TAB re paying the correct dividends - added to the 7 wrong times in the last 12 months re paying out on 3rd and 4th

Anyhow can some one tell why numbers 1 and 2 were late scratchings at Albany race 5 - considering they both completed the race

Great Cup field with Lenny, Flaming Flutter (from 1, an excellent place chance after winning the SA Cup), Smolda etc....My Hard Copy got the vistors draw of the extreme outside....not as big an issue as it would be for some horses but will be interesting to see how he goes.....Smolda, especially at $51 hahaha for me. Sprinter also drawn awkward in 7...will need as good a drive as his heat win to figure, especially up against Lazarus and Don't Hold Back. And then you have the mighty Monbet in the Trotters of 20m. I like Nike Franco to beat Yankee Rockstar in the first. Should be great racing.

Harness trainer Michael Day convicted of fraud over "non-existent" horse
By Costa Rolfe 7 hours ago
The slippery 'Miriyan' proved but an illusion The slippery 'Miriyan' proved but an illusion
Miracle Mile-winning harness trainer Michael Day was on Wednesday convicted of fraud in the Goulburn Local Court after charging over $25,000 in training fees for a horse that did not exist.

Day pleaded guilty to obtaining financial advantage by deception after defrauding a client out of $25,677 by charging training fees for a non-existent standardbred horse called ‘Miriyan'.

Day's offending commenced after a mare named Jag One - owned by one of Day's clients - failed to give birth to a foal, having been artificially inseminated in 2007. Day did not disclose to the ‘owner' that no foal had been born however, instead maintaining the charade that the horse existed for the next six years.

In February of 2009 the client attended Day's property and was presented with a foal that she was led to believe was in fact the fictitious ‘Miriyan'.

For the next six years Day provided the client with various injury-related excuses as to why ‘Miriyan' was unable to race, until the deception was uncovered in 2015.

Day was disqualified for 10 years after NSW Harness Racing investigated the matter in 2015. He was arrested on 20 October 2015 and made full admissions in an electronic interview.

Day, who is being treated for depression, was in court described as an essentially good man by his solicitor Tim McGrath.

“He realises now that when the vet told him there was no foal that he should have told the client,” McGrath said.

“He said he simply didn't have the guts to tell the owner and then he took a chance that he could gamble his way out of the situation.

“He is a person of good skill and reputation and he now realises that he has also been disqualified from the industry and is unlikely to ever train horses again and thus he has lost his livelihood.”

Day trained Gundary Flyer to Miracle Mile glory in 1982. Magistrate Carolyn Hunstman - who is set to impart final sentencing on 16 March - said she would have no alternative but to impose a custodial sentence upon Day.

“It is a serious fraud over a long period of time,” Huntsman said.

“It is not appropriate to give you a suspended

This opinion won't be popular. Know I will be in a very small minority here. Probably the only! Look I understand why , BUT...not a fan of the media on the track talking to the drivers in the final moments before moving up to the mobile or stand...can't see what's to be gained...same old questions...same old answers, which is all well and good, however the final minute or two should be for the reinsman/reinswoman and not for microphones, camera, and occasional inane questions. The final moments are crucial for horse and driver. Leave it to them and them only. Don't get me wrong I think the guys on Sky covering the trots are fantastic and do a wonderful job. Realise I'm on the outer on this one but think it's overdone, a slight distraction and even possible hindrance to horse and driver....opinion only!

R1: Looks a perfect race for No1 That's Rite. Went for a spell on the back of a strong all the way win, trial win in 1.56.6 beating Bettor Party by 15m reads very well for this. I don't see any pressure on it early, Three Bears and Burning are the ones that that can challenge it talent wise but neither is overly quick off the arm. Thought Burning was massive two back but not as impressive last Friday, likely to breeze and i'm a bit worried about the horses in the moving line if That's Rite gets it a bit soft early and is absolutely zipping home. So on that line I'm going to play a first for That's Rite to win banking Vertical Four. I don't think he's racing brilliantly but he's sticking at it well. Likely to look under pressure but should keep on going. I suspect Jungle Face Jake to drop onto Vertical Four's back and Real Zeal to drop onto his back. Zipping home I really think these rails horses could be the ones filling the FF. Burning should breeze, Three Bears on his back and Our Big Slow on his back are the other first four players.
Tip: No1 That's Rite. Bet: FF:1/10/2,3,5,11,12/2,3,5,11,12. 100% costs $20 then rotate the 10 through for a lesser %.

R2: I'm going to back leaders back to be the place to be again and have something on Legendary Lou(10). $26/$3.60 available on Sportsbet at the moment outstanding value. Michael Grantham on Typhoon Tan is an aggressive driver so I expect him to lead, I'd be disappointed if he handed up to Robyn's CC as they would be diminishing their winning chances. Then just a matter of luck for Legendary Lou to get out, Dean Miller driven a couple of nice races during the week, he can continue that here. Not over complicating this one although I think 1,2,3,10,11 are all going to get the nice runs so you could play the novelties around them.
Tip:No10 Legendary Lou. Bet No10 Legendary Lou Win and Place, stacked the place.

R3: This is a tough race. No1 Soho Monza likes to lead, has just moved into the Kristian Hawkins stable and he has shown he can get them going. Is an aggressive driver so I expect it to be leading. I think that The Black Lord has to come out running so that should put a bit of speed into it, wouldn't be surprised to see Bettorbeastar, Courage Tells and Macon Georgia want to go forward at the start. I liked 12 Mr Nickel the other day and if there is the speed I suspect 12 wont be too bad a draw, I give him a chance of finishing over the top of them at odds. Algranco Under Fire has to be a player in this class. Also liked Go West You Terror last week. Think this could be a rare race at GP where the 3 wide line is a big player come the finish.
Tip: No12 Mr Nickel. Bet: EW No12 Mr Nickel.

R4: I suspect No2 Donegal Chokin will be capable of leading these up and at $8 on sportsbet at the moment is a terrific price. Is racing very well at the moment, think it leads and wins. Every single horse in this race has some winning chance, luck in running to play a major part.
Tip: No2 Donegal Chokin. Bet: No2 Donegal Chokin win. Paly an early quad banking him: 1,10/1,3,10/1,9,12/2. 100% costs $18.

R5: I do like to watch the trotters, fantastic animal. I do not however like to bet on the trotters and i'm confident that i'm not alone, to program this as the first leg of the main quad grinds my gears and shows that whoever is doing the programing doesn't worry too much about turnover. I haven't got the foggiest on the form other than No10 Earl Of Charity seems to win very easily when it does things right! Drawn wide might actually be a good thing as I suspect we may see some bubble as they try to get out quickly over the sprint trip so if forced he'd be the way I would go. Good luck.

R6: Loved No1 Cyamach the other day and at first glance this looks great for him. My question though is does Mach Alert come out flying? I think it does, i'm expecting sparks! So I can't bring myself to back either of them even though they are obviously the main winning chances on ability. No9 Copagrin is flying. You will know if he's a winning chance after they have gone 100m so I won't be having more than pocket change on him as if the 2 mentioned don't go hard they will walk and Copagrin will be out of it t the back.
Tip:No1 Cyamach. Bet: No9 Copagrin small EW.

R7: Wow Phoenix Warrior as short as $1.80, leave me out of that! I think it needs multiple miracles to hold up and the mile is absolute not its go. Just does not look his race to me. I actually think 6 Better Than Money crosses which will pave the way for 10 Ti Amo Franco to follow it over, take it up and win. $11 with 365, hopefully that with the TAB. It is a lot harder to cross from wide over this trip rather than 2130m but I just think their early speed is going to be superior. I'm going to play the novelties around them. I could be way wrong but I think panic stations may set in with Phoenix Warrior and he might end up finding trouble and finishing down the track, if things do work out for him though the talent is obviously there to play a part. I'm not brave enough to rule any of them out for the novelties so just going to play for tiny percentages.
Tip: No10 Ti Amo Franco. Bet: Win No10 Ti Amo Franco, FF:10/6/FD/FD. 100% costs $42. Might take 10%! then rotate through.

R8: No1 Devendra to lead throughout? No one has the speed to cross it early, there will be horses that want to go forward but if it is coping a lot of pressure I feel it will be undue. Time will tell what's going to happen. Talk of My Hard Copy to go 3 back the fence, very hard to give up such a beautiful draw in the moving line. The thinker in me can't help but conclude that with Run Oneover and My Hard Copy having the same connections Devendra may well be going to cop that early pressure. The best option for Run Oneover is to take the 1,1 on Lovers Delight thinking that horse is likely to put others off trying to take the breeze. The problem with that is AC Lewis is not likely to over do it in that position so there wouldn't be enough pressure on. If you think of Run Oneover and My Hard Copy as a package deal then absolutely the best chance of winning is Run Oneover kicking through and holding the breeze at all costs, thus putting more pressure on Devendra and having MHC sitting pretty 1,1 nice and close to the speed. The more I think the stronger I feel this is the likely scenario. Under those circumstances Lovers Delight is in a lot of pain. Devendra can still win as i'm reasonably confident we wont see another Toretto. Beadiene Boaz an obvious player, it will be hard to rate back and keep him in if MHC is surging 3 wide so Jnr should be getting off late. Should be a great race, don't like that i'm anticipating it with nerves as to wether everyone is going to be given a fair chance but that's the nature of WA pacing at the moment, I suspect it should all be ok, i'm happy enough if Run Oneover does elect to keep the breeze. If Run Oneover does kick up don't be surprised to see John Of Arc pop around to the breeze once Lovers Delight is out of the way.
Tip: No1 Devendra. Bet: I've backed Devendra at $3 and MHC at $7.50, moved away from my no confidence earlier in the week!

R9: A 2536m race with some early speed in it, this may end up being a survival of the fittest. Bhagwan was a fantastic result for me last week. After causing the interference though I suspect K Sheehy may be a bit gun shy and be at the mercy of A Cortopassi. Two ways to look at it, Ginas Ingot who is a horse with a fair amount of ability and great gate speed has had a lot of time off so i'd suggest it has had an injury. You never know how many runs you are going to get out of one who has had issues so do you bite the bullet and go for an all the way win when one is going to be trying to cross you or do you take the easy option and trail it around, pick up some money and hope to fight on another day? Time will tell. I'd hold up ha ha! Delete And Deny was entitled to do more last start, loves the trip but I don't like it here being likely to breeze.No10 Major Rush at $26 Sportsbet is an EW bet to nothing. He will just be smoking the pipe and is a morale to be weaving late as others tire, big player. I suspect No9 Sir Slick will be a player as well, grab hold be patient and fly past the tiring runners. I'm liking some at odds tonight!
Tip: No10 Major Rush. Bet: Think I'll be backing both No10 Major Rush and No9 Sir Slick with novelties around 4,7,9,10 to win for small percentages.

R10: Small field, some very good horses though. Harry Hoo is just going to be getting home too quickly I think for anyone to catch him.

Would be great to see Beaudiene Boaz and My Hard Copy go head to head...Boaz leading with Hard Copy challenging...Who would start favourite ? Possibly My Hard Copy. Any horse that could run down Beaudiene Boaz would have to be pretty special. Both outstanding prospects. However stablemates in match races couldn't happen , it's a pity they are not in different stables! The Satinover V Pure Steel showdown caught the imagination and this would too! As good as My Hard Copy was last night the run of Beaudiene Boaz was right up there. He hit the line with gusto.
