Yesterday at Williams - had a reasonable day - took the fixed odds Just A Horse $16 W $2.70P - and stood it out in trifectas - so that was an ok result

However i also backed plenty of losers - including having a decent each way bet on Usual Chaos - and standing it out in trifectas

Now i might be jumping the gun - because the Stewards Report isnt out yet - but if you go to the results - you get the comments - and they queried the drive - but it doesnt say driver fined or suspended

To me he clearly has mistaken the laps ( just another way to do your doe ) and that normally cops 6-8 weeks

If you watch the race - with 2 and a bit laps to go Bandar takes off 3 wide - Usual Chaos followed him up 3 wide -and i thought what a crazy move - because Bandar is a death set horse and doesnt hand up - anyhow Usual Chaos is being hard driven out 3 wide for the whole 2nd last lap - and then entering the straight - coming in for the bell - the driver starts flicking it with the whip - obviously thinking its the last lap - as soon as they reach the winning post - he stops driving - thinks the race is finished - and then 5 seconds later realizes theres another lap ! - gets beaten over 40 metres - no fault of the horse though

Watch the replay and see what you think- i will be amazed if he is not suspended - but the official stewards report isnt out yet

R2: No9 WINDERMERE LAD.

Anyone with access to a bet 365 account where you can actually get on I highly recommend you jump on and have a few dollars on this horse, they currently have it 50/1, $9 for a place. It's enough to make me think it's finally time to make an account in the Mrs name!

Troy Lewis is on the likely leader 2 White Eagle and he only knows how to drive one way and that is flat out. With 8 Keeper Of Keys and 10 Gunner Bromac also drawn the backline with Windermere I see there being moves and someone for Windermere Lad to follow into it.

You have to be a brave man to bet the harness and learn to ignore some things, here it is the fact that it hasn't won a race since 2013 and that was back in NZ. I'm much more interested in how much the horse improved 3rd up after almost year and how well the race looks to play out.

Haven't ben this excited to back one for a while, just need to work out how i'm going to get on now!

Took a week off from the internet world after doing a heap of do and making some silly comments, back now and refreshed. Really enjoyed the Friday night of racing, can't wait for the final to see how a race pans out at GP when the pace is going to have to be on the way as chances drawn poorly look to put themselves into the race.

Here are my thoughts for Tuesday night.

R1: No1 Bounty Eyre looks the likely leader and short priced favourite and to be unders IMO. I fancy the stablemate No7 Ohoka Squire to get up outside him early and to out stay him. He returned to form Saturday and this is a massive class drop on his prior races.

R2: A no bet race for me but should be well worth a look. 1 Jaxon Fella will want to hold up but there are a few outside him who you would think would want to at least have a look. Ti Amo Franco isn’t racing at its best, I think its best would have it leading and winning but I thought it would do that a couple back and got nowhere near crossing. Soho Lenon has flown the start at times, probably not likely to try with who has drawn under him. The more I look at it the more I think Jaxon Fella may just get an easy lead and be able to steal it. Smokey is doing his own interdominion, if they do go hard early obviously on his turf he’ll be hard to beat. 10 Rocky Marciano is probably the only horse that could tempt me to have a bet if he is longish odds, should get a lovely run through and can sprint well of the soft trip, stable going well. Phoenix Warrior potentially the best horse in the race, it’s very open!

R3: I think the race works out perfectly for No2 My Hard Copy. For Me Franco Ledger isn’t going anywhere near as good as he can. He was help up early Friday but when he did get clear Crusader Banner sprinted away from him. Mach Beauty obviously looks like he’ll attack Franco for the lead, with no sprint lane it should make it interesting. Franco Ledger doesn’t have electric gate speed but does have some, still you would think Mach Beauty will be in front. I think My Hard Copy will either be sitting 1,1 or 1,2 with Billies A Star and Bettors Fire the horses likely to be in front of him in the moving line. I don’t see anyone pocketing him so he can run all over the top of them whenever he likes. I didn’t mind the run of 6 Major Crocker on the first night and with the field he has hit and the form they appear to be in I think he can run on from the back and be in the money, good novelties available playing around No2 My Hard Copy the win anchoring No6 Major Crocker somewhere in the placings.

R4: Call me nuts but I think this might be the race for No5 Scuba Steve. I think he can cross them and with the light weight of Jones in the cart just keep on rolling. Basically every runner is some chance if things unfold well for them.

R5: This is a pretty strong heat. With 9 Waylade being drawn directly behind the stable mate 1 Northview Punter you would think Northview Punter will be looking to hold up. Being a Tritton horse you would expect 2 Easy On The Eye will be shooting for the top. If Lennytheshark was mine I’d be grabbing hold of him immediately, I think there is going to be a speed battle and Lenny is some danger of being 3 deep for a fair while from 3 with 10 Jason Rulz likely to push up hard from the back row. Just on the thinking that they are going to nuts early I’m going to have something the place No5 Libertybelle Midfrew, she went fine in her heat without being able to be extended. She will definitely grab hold early and will be flashing past tired runners late, hopefully there’s enough tired runners!

R6: You can call me nuts again but I think No1 Dynamite Dude is a fantastic chance. Hadn’t had a good look before but he is a magnificent horse to look at. Ran last Friday but really that could be a blessing as it was really nothing more than track work. Known more as a stand horse but I went back and had a look at his form and he had started from 1 before and led comfortably with some good beginners outside him. He’ll have options but I’m wanting him to go for an all the way win. As much as 60/1 has been available. Devendra anywhere from $1.55 to $2.35 available seems massive unders for me, I liked it Friday and was lucky enough to get $11. Liked how it went but that was a far more suitable race. Really liked how the two Hall horses in this race went in their heats, likely to be a lot of front end speed in this so they can both run on at the big odds. Philadelphia Man also likely to be suited by a fast tempo but with points on the board already I expect him to just poke up along the fence so will need a bit of luck. A boilover race for me between the 1,5&6.

R7: All over No1 Glow Bright in this. He is a really capable horse on his night and has shown in his last two that he isn’t far away from his top. There is some early speed outside of him in Courage Tells but I don’t think holding up will be a problem, He’s not winning a lot but I think Morgan Woodley is actually driving in fantastic form at the moment. Out front and dictating I just think he’s going to be running home in a time the others are going to find too hard to get over.

R8: I’m going to back Morgan in to finish off with a double. No1 Twelve Bells runs infinitely better for him than his trainer. He’ll be leading throughout. Think Time Passenger can follow him through and run 2nd.

The stars are starting to return from winter spells. At Addington on Saturday Night, Christen Me returned with a narrow win first up in the Maurice Holmes Vase...just got home over Jason Rulz but never looked like getting beaten and will improve enormously on the run. Heading to their cup (63 days to go) and hopefully to Perth. Art Union (Bettors Fire"s half brother) was also first up and even more impressive in the 4YO race. Great family being set up here, pacing royalty. The dam (The) Sparks A Flyin, herself a 1.52.0 mare and winner of over $500k in stakes (Group 1 winner in Australia NSW Oaks, Breeders Crown, 2nd in the Australian Oaks), has produced 5 foals old enough to race....Dominating Diomedes 1.57.5, Empirific 1.56.2, Bettors Fire 1.53.8, Safedra 1.56.3 and Art Union 1.55.6. with 3yo Alpha Rock and yearling Ultimate Spark yet to hit the track. Throws winners to different sire lines...McArdle, Christian Cullen, Bettors Delight, Mach Three, Art Major......No doubt, one of those journo's at the West or the S/Times will be onto this with a story soon enough......or maybe not. But Bettors Fire is superbly bred...probably as good as you would find in WA...and is racing accordingly.

It is about 2 hours north of Christchurch up the East Coast and the track is almost on the beach. I was lucky enough to go there years ago and if you haven't been, it is a bucket list job for harness fans. Talk about atmosphere....and Arden Rooney and Kerryn just lasted.
Went to the AGM last night....very well attended meeting, I,m guessing around 200 in attendance. John Burt ran a good meeting, open, approachable, things well explained, questioners from the floor treated with dignity and respect...and an excellent meal and drinks provided for all attendees in the Radiant Oro room. Very high standard of catering (they no longer use external caterers, everything done in house with the recently installed high quality kitchen....came at a cost but will ultimately pay off)
Committee Election results (4 nominations for 2 positions): 591 ballots issued, 331 returned
Alan Parker 181
John Burt 174
____________
Milton James 141
Fred Kersley 132

Overall atmosphere was pretty positive...Alan Parker was invested as a life member and very well received. Great to see Bill Horn present and still full of life and stories.
They are gearing up for the Inters, not just this year but the next two as well.
A competitive field for the Navy Cup...the 2 emergencies are a bit of a surprise. For the nostalgic, a look at past winners ....first run in 1965 and won by Lord Mina (Phil Coulson) off 12 yards rating 2.11.0 (at Richmond). East Perth FC Club doctor Mick Lekias celebrated a win in 1968 with Mount Mist, again with Couson on board and former starter Colin Campbell drove Codicil to win in 1969. 1971 saw Sir Alex for Tom Charles and Alan Woodworth, Aboukir for the Godeckes in 1974 (Fred drove it for Bill), Typhson set the race record of 2.7.8 over 2800m in 1974 for Lyle Lindau, only for Pure Steel to go 2.6.3 over 2900m in 1975. Then came Anna's Ann (FRK), Maid Aachen for Charlie Rifici, Windy Jean for Ray Grantham and Skiptar for Doug Pelham/Chris Lewis. In 1989, Manageable set a new mark of 2.1.3 for Mike Reed to join his other winners in Sylvies Secret (1986) and Time Symbol (1992) and then Mark Reed landed 3 in a row with Another Party, Skipper's Trick and Golden resonator, adding another two with Tricky Vic (2002) and La Valiente (2004). Brian Cousins/Justin Prentice scored with Global Force in 2007 and Puffer Williams landed Tartiary Gladiator for Kevin Keys in 2011. Hokonui Ben won the last standing start edition in 2012 for the Halls and in 2013, Kyle Harper and Bettors Fire joined his Dad Lindsay (Digger of Fortune 2003) as father/son winners (along with Mike and Mark Reed, Trevor (Darkan Prince 1988), Aiden (Scootin Delta 2005) and Justin (Jimmy Kelly 2008) Warwick and Kim (Lloyd Boy 2002) and Justin (Global Force 2007) Prentice). Old Shardon's Rocket set the race record of 1.57.5 last year when it changed to a 2130m distance, a record that is likely to disappear on Friday night. Sorry, just a bit of trivia on a slow morning but it is a time honoured race won by some very good horses.

Was traveling back from Perth today and called into Pinjarra trots for the last 2 races, only real reason to have a look at Kiwi Legend. A resident expert on this forum was waxing lyrically about him last March after a very good performance in a 3YO race when Beaudiene Boaz broke up..."fast becoming one of my favourite horse, I had the inside running on what a champ he was from a mate who used to own him, I unloaded on him etc etc"...you know the sort of thing. Subsequent to that, I don't think he has won a race, which for a rumoured $200k plus purchase after not completely satisfying the vet, would suggest worrying times ahead perhaps. Anyway, his win that night was very good and even though he was 2nd in fast time to Pelusiac last start, I thought I'd watch him go around in a 7 horse field with Red Hot Major as the only other chance. Well, I was underwhelmed...although those two streeted the rest of them, Kiwi Legend never looked like winning and was soundly beaten by about 10m in moderate time. As a potential "boom" horse, he was very very disappointing whilst taking nothing away from Red Hot Major, the winner of only 1 city class race way back as a 2YO. For our expert's sake, I do hope he has stopped "unloading" ....I am sure he will have!!!! Apparently, I missed all the action with Race 5 abandoned. Nevertheless, Kiwi Legend is not yet living up to it's hype.....or it's name.
