Having a look at tonight's meeting

R1. Awesome Desire, not much pressure if it can hold lead early, looks a great each way chance.
R2. Where Dreams Grow has the speed to lead and should lead throughout here. Blacknsweet Adda will be close, could be the exacta tip.
R3. Must Be Nice gets the draw, looks the leader. Soho Lennon going ordinary, hard to have. My Samantha Jane below her best but think she can improve. Think the 1 can get the job done.
R4. Anything could win this. Value around Sonic Classic for mine on an each way basis. Bettor Party got 10m let up should go better. That Is Correct could be value too as he's a reliable beginner. Raffle.
R5. Ideal Alice looks the one from the draw, Raesawinner going really well will stare it down. Hard to suggest any others.
R6. Good battle to unfold between Billies A Star and Erskine Range. Erskine Range for me in that battle only marginally, I think he's more versatile.
R7. Northview Punter has the draw advantage, Pacific Warrior find it harder from draw. Ti Amo Franco is the dark horse of this field.
R8. The Revolution is airborne, Should win this. Max Meridius will give some cheek. Hilo Rex value for the place.
R9. Driven will lead and go very close. Calais sit kick, can't put much pressure on. Nicnak Paddy Wak will be the fresh legs late.
R10. Luke Hobbs for me here at some value, good gate speed and racing well in new stable. Responder logical threat from draw. When Im Fifty and Lagoon Stride value at odds.

Too hard at Kal tonight, good competitive racing to unfold there.

Good Luck and Good Punting

R1: I Think 1 Bettors Gem probably has the speed to lead which in a roundabout way could make it for the favourite. I think it is likely she will choose to hold up against Massive Attack and then hand up to Nuala and it would be all she wrote. If Massive Attack did get the front though she is more than capable of running a rate that would test the fav first up. Don’t think Bettors Gem can run quick enough to play her own part in the finish. I have to include Sea Me Smile in case something mad happens to the fav two. Foxy Dame continues to run well but again she is likely to have all the good ones in front of her.
Tip: 8 Nuala. Quad: 4,6,8. No Bet.

R2: 1 Ideal Alice is short and likely to lead all the way. She does like to run along though so she will be giving others their chance. I suspect 6 Kiralin will come out guns a blazing looking to cross the 1 but the likelihood is she will land the breeze and give the 1,1 to stablemate Where Dreams Grow. At $16/$3.25 bet365 she is worth an EW bet for me. Forget her last run as she took of early and pulled like a train, she will enjoy the 1,1 and can sprint really quickly. Jungle Jewel was great last week but with the run she will get I can’t see her winning, I can’t see her not running into it though. It could be a pegs race for the FF and the Hawkins have their horses going well so expect Just Jamie to be in it. If 11 Nightwatchlady goes straight to the fence she can get back end of FF and I thought My Samantha Jane was pretty good the other day, if she gets gaps she will rattle.
Tip: 2 Where Dreams Grow. Quad: 1,2,6. Bet: EW Where Dreams Grow. FF: 1,2/1,2,6,10/1,2,6,8,10/1,2,6,8,10,11,12. 100% costs $72, wont be playing for much.

R3: This is the kind of race where I tend to go wide and the fav wins, the more I look at it the more I think it will happen again. I think 1 Anvils Big Punt although predominantly a stand horse has the speed to hold up. Mapua Legend camp wants to go forward and then look for cover, don’t see it crossing the 1. So in that scenario Hes Righthererightnow rolls to the front and is extremely hard to beat. If the 1 decided it wanted to hold up or the 2 went ultra aggressive it could change things. I suspect though he’ll lead and Glowbright will lob outside of him, Glowbright is flying and wouldn’t surprise me if he got up. Initially thought once again this isn’t Why Live Dangerously’s race but the 11 may go to the rails so he might lob straight into the moving line without doing a thing and in that role he is dangerous. I have to include Lombo Toscanini, he was hopelessly held up last start, no idea how he is going but don’t want to be beaten by him.Tip: 3 He’s Righthererightnow. Quad: 1,3,4,5,8. Bet: Can’t believe how short why live dangerously is, if he gets to EW I’ll back him. Tri:3,4/1,3,4,5,8/1,3,4,5,8. 100% costs $24.

R4: Should only need two in the last leg of the early quad and really probably only need one. 1 Ima Peregrine looks to be the early leader this time and in that position he can run very well. His problem unfortunately is that he is probably going to cop a lot of early pressure, Onedin Crusader will look to go forward early but I expect Authorised to come out humming and if he gets across early to the breeze I suspect we will see High Courage come and have his turn. Cyamach was massive last week and to me it looks like it will be set up for him, he hasn’t got the job done for a few runs though so I will also include Soho Lennon who probably should have got it done last week but if he’s at the back and they are running he has to be a chance.Tip: 7 Cyamach. Quad: 1,7,9. No bet.

R5: Hall camp wants to try and hold up with Algranco Under Fire so if Condrieu is to lead he may have to do some work. He’s shown he can running a 35.5 lead time and 1.55.5 rate. Algranco has never run anywhere near that lead time but after watching some replays I do give him some chance of holding up, obviously a completely different race if that happens. There are horses with a bit of speed in between them which could help Algranco. It could be throwing money away in the quad but I’m going to have to include the 2 Lunar Tide in case Condrieu does something wrong as it will be sitting nice and close, as the form comments say Ohoka Kentucky can be the blowout horse. I’m also going to take 10 Ohoka Squire for a tiny quad share, I’d never forgive myself if a horse in form sat leaders back or 3 back and got up at odds after a speed battle. Condrieu is in another world in terms of ability and if he brings it he leads and wins but he has to do that and I’m willing to play a few other in case he doesn’t. Tip: 6 Condrieu. Quad:1,2,6,8,12 for different percentages. No Bet.

R6: This would have been a fantastic race if a couple of the horses drawn out wide were in another stable as they both have excellent gate speed and we might have seen them come out firing. We are likely to see a race though without any early pressure. It’s for that reason that I think they have to go forward with Our Jimmy Johnstone and I have him as a real chance of winning. He was fantastic two starts back and never got his chance to really wind up early last start, he can breeze and really show something. The two Hall favourites have built up really good records but I’m still not convinced 1) How good they actually are 2) How good they are going at this point in time. Obviously though they are the ones to beat.
Tip: 7 Our Jimmy Johnstone. Quad: 2,3,7. Bet Our Jimmy Johnstone EW.

R7: This is a fantastic race. 9 Norvic Nightowl was ultra impressive Monday but this is harder and there are plenty lining up to beat him at the short quote. Oliveri mentioned a while ago this was the race he was setting Chief Thunder Cloud for and he runs all day, he’s one you can guarantee will be in the finish. I would want to see Danieljohn driven ultra conservatively but I suspect he wont be. I hve a feeling Awesome Teddy might be able to get away cleanly, get to the front and be really hard to get past. I have also loved the way Our Amazing Art has been going and tucked away on the fence he is a real blowout hope. Norvic Nightowl is obviously the class and deserves to be the short quote but over this distance drivers can get itchy fingers and anything can happen. Rocky Marciano was my blowout horse last week and I was a bit disappointed in him but I suspect after that run he is one who will be driven ultra quiet so I will have to throw him in.
Tip: 9 Norvic Nightowl. Quad 1,4,5,6,8,9. Bet: At the $2.70 currently on Spotsbet I think he is worth a bet.

R8: Barrow Street is no star and has only won one out of fifteen this season but his current form suggests he’s in a happy place. This time last year he was pulled on early by Keeper OF Keys to run a 36 flat lead time then copped pressure from a couple of other runners but he won convincingly in 1.57.2. There are parallels in this in that I can’t see Reed not at least having a look at him early on Northview Cardle. I think the only way he could cross is if Barrow Street goes rough or as happens occasionally with a Bond runner they can just throw up a run where they are sluggish early. I have to include Cardle in the quad for that reason. I like Suspicious Behavia but I don’t think he can run a quick enough quarter to win. Vertical Four will get a lovely trip but I can’t see him running over either 1or2 leading. Znana is the blowout horse if they go mental early as is Responder.
Tip: 1 Barrow Street. Quad 1,2. No Bet.

R9: Glennferrie Rustler works his way to the top and just wins. Don’t like the $1.20 but I think taking him to win the FF and anchoring Lively Attide to run somewhere in the other placings can return a bit better. Tip: 8 Glennferrie Rustler. Bet: FF:8/7/1,3,5,6,9,10,11/S3 for a couple of dollars then rotate 7 through.

R10: The trap of the westbred draws me in again. A lot of these struggle to run 2.2 mile rates which I think will suit Choccywoccy down to the ground. After having expectations placed on her at her last few runs and cracking under that pressure I think she can be the sleeper tonight and get over them at a decent price.
Tip:5 Choccywoccy. Bet: EW Choccywoccy.

R1: No9 Beaudiene Boaz did what he had to do last Friday night and I expect him to do the same again. I expect the 1 through 4 to all be wanting the front which should put some nice early speed into it setting it up for the Boaz. I’m an Aussie Delight fan and he was good to me last week, hopefully he can get across and give a bit of cheek. Run Oneover is a big strong horse, he may be driven as a bit of a bunny for the stable mate but even driven like that I wouldn’t be surprised if he at least made Beaudiene Boaz stretch his neck considering how Ima Connoisseur went against him last week. 4 Bungalow Bill was good against the older horses last start but I’m not sure how good they are and the times don’t stack up against the two hall runners. Tip: No9 Beaudiene Boaz. Bet: I won’t be having anything in this, just cheering for Aussie Delight.

R2: This one of a number of very tough races tonight. I can’t see anything leading No2 I’m Samuel James early and I’m going to speculate that with C Voak on he might be very hard to beat going for an all the way win. There are a few with a bit more class but I’m not confident which if any of them will get the desired trip. I was slightly disappointed in 8 Phoenix Warrior last week but he does get his chance to work around them here again and dictate if he is good enough, I wont be backing him to find out. 9 Spectactular is the one who has raced well against much better horses, I suspect though that he will be 3 wide for a fair while and as of yet I’m not overly convinced this is overly suitable for the big horse. Then there are 4 or 5 probably a rung bellow these two who are in good form and with the right trip will play a part.Tip No2 Im Samuel James. Bet: Purely a small speck bet on him if the price is right.

R3: The more I look at it the more I think this is a soft kill for Ideal Alice. Kyle Harper could play a big role in the finish on Besos Baci who was a good winner in a lower grade last start. She has shown gate speed at times and he is an aggressive driver so I think he might try and fire out to try and get across the 1 Millwood Faith. If Millwood Faith happens to get away with a lot she may give something but I suspect the class of Alice will be too much, same goes for Besos Baci-the win looked good to the eye but the times and the quality of horse she beat are lacking a bit. Ideal Alice grabs hold early, 3 wide solo, wins. The danger could be the horse drawn out with her 9 Pay Me Quick is she is able to follow into the race as she does possess a good short sprint.
Tip: 8 Ideal Alice. Bet: FF: 8/9/1,6,10,12/1,3,6,7,10,12. $20 for the full unit and will be moving the 9 through for varied percentages. Have had something small 9 Pay Me Quick a place with $5 available.

R4: In all likelihood whoever leads early in this is likely to hand up to Elegant Christian and that will be all she wrote. If 7 Rocky Marciano happened to step in front of him I’d love to see him driven aggressively, I think he’s flying at the moment and would be capable of making a real race of it. Maybe Danieljohn will go back to being conservatively driven tonight and be motoring home. Hard to make a case for anything else.
Tip: 9 Elegant Christian. Bet: The way I see it being run the $1.60 currently available is probably about right Elegant Christian. I want to back Rocky 1by5 style but I would like better that $2.20 a place.

R5: For a stand horse 1 Hez Got The Nod has pretty good gate speed. He dropped out last week but this is much easier in terms of class and if he can runsomewhere near the times he did 2 starts back he is likely to go close. It’s a pretty hard race to work out. You would think that Wrongly Accused would want to get up outside the lead at some stage. Surprised no one picked him up for the $2000 last week, the way he won he has more in store. Outback Joe represents a bit of class and has to be hardest to beat but I’m not sure where he gets from the draw-maybe make an early move anticipating getting the 1,1 behind Wrongly Accused. Machin Out has a decent sprint and should be dangerous sitting nice and close the fence. 3 is a trap draw for Why Live Dangerously, I wouldn’t want to see him used early as he can’t handle it but grab hold from 3 and you may as well have had 9. Have announced they are going forward on Why Live Dangerously, to me that just sets it up for a swooper so the 7 and 10 could be the go.
Tip: 7 Outback Joe. Bet: 7,10/1,3,6,7,10/1,3,6,7,10,11 100% costs $32. Really like the idea of playing the novelties around 7,10 and will be having something EW Outback Joe.

R6: 1 Mr Nickel has announced it would like to lead. I’m 50/50 as to whether it can hold Onedin Crusader or not. 9 Condrieu has had some early support on the announcement they will assess the speed, I can’t have him not leading especially at the price he currently is. With 1 and 2 both wanting to lead it could be set up for the swoopers although I will stick fat with Onedin Crusader at least in the Quad. I think the safe bet is Soho Lennon EW ($4.20/$1.65 Sportsbet ATM) he is racing pretty well and I think going back there will be enough early speed for him to definitely be top 3. No idea what to make of 12 Cyamach, I’d expect him to be better with a sit but he may be the one leading up Soho. Will be taking plenty in this leg of the quad.
Tip: 7 Soho Lennon. Bet: EW Soho Lennon.

R7: I doubted 1 Red Salute’s gate speed so I went back and had a look and it can be really good, he has easily held Polak and Northview Punter in the past and they are both very good beginners. 2 Crusader Banner have announced they entend to try and lead and he too has fantastic gate speed. I can’t see jnr doing this by half so I expect a super strong lead time and a race set up for back markers. When Our Black Bird first got here and he was nominated for races like the inters I was wondering what the hell they were doing but he is absolutely flying now. $17 EW for a horse who has shown he can get home seems outstanding. Good to hear K Harper on the radio this morning saying Bettors Fire has pulled up well after his tough run, will be driven quieter this week and if fine he will be motoring. Classic American is racing at his peak and is another who will be suited by a hot speed. Our Jimmy Johnstone was probably career best last start, is better suited leading but is another who will be having a soft run. I can’t have Lover’s Delight breezing in this quality of race but he is another who is flying and if they back of after going hard early I don’t see anything coming around to pull him on so he could get a nice time of it. Could go field here.
Tip: 7 Our Black Bird. Bet: Have to back him EW.

R8: No confidence in this one based on I’m not sure what the 1 and 2 will do early. I think they are both capable of leading throughout but I don’t know if either really intends to. I would really like to take Machtu on but it would be a risk if the 1 decided it wanted to hold up and the 2 decided it wanted the front as well. For the sake of a tip I’ll go for the 1 Jungle Jewel to lead throughout.
Tip: 1 Jungle Jewel. Bet, $7.50 on the 1 is tempting, if I have a win early and that price is still available I’ll have a little play, I like a punt!

R9: Bond camp to dominate this with 2 Ima Connoisseur leading and 5 Holy Grail likely to get up outside him. 3 Oneonthewood was getting home really well in fast time last sat, I see him sitting 1,1 and could be a great smokey for the novelties. 7 Glennferrie Rustler was fantastic last week and has to be in the first four and I’ll throw in Debt Free Charlie for forth along with Responder who can run on with Turvey going straight to the fence.
Tip: 2 Ima Connoisseur. Bet FF:2/3,5,7/3,5,7/3,5,6,7,11. $12 for a full unit.

R10: Very rare that I’m interested in playing the westbred but I’m pretty keen this week. 3 Playing With Magic had somewhat of a fitness run Monday in what I think will be a hot form race, Reed jumps back on and I expect it to go straight to the front and be extremely hard to get past. 5 Tayla Athena is the unknown, being beaten 14m sitting outside Guliana Rancic at her first start is pretty solid form for this and the times in her recent trial read pretty well. With the prices available you could back these two for a result.
Tip: 3 Playing With Magic. Bet: Win Playing With Magic, save Tayla Athena.

R1: No4 Nathans Courage has big wraps on it, I expect it to measure up to them here. He got an easy lead and sprinted home very quickly Monday under no pressure. There is no speed underneath him here so he should get a soft lead again. I think he should be very short and winning. That said 8 Franco Rayner will be winning plenty of races. He showed great gate speed his first run in WA and smashed the clock late. With the lack of speed I could see him getting up to the breeze quickly at the start if they choose, that’d be my choice, maybe even have a crack. The negative is I didn’t like how he got around GP at his first go so I would want to see him get around it well before I’m willing to back him in a race where he is likely to be working a bit. If 3 El Hombre could get to the fence and then hold leaders back he’d have massive claims for 2nd/3rd but he really doesn’t have much early speed. It wouldn’t surprise me if 6 Mister Versace squeezes into that gap or even Franco Rayner could come out running to open up leaders back. Still El Hombre should get a nice trail in the moving line if he can’t cross the 1 early so should be running into the FF. 2 Unreal Desire has tended to be restrained early so just in case he does find some early speed I’ll be taking him FF for some value.
Bet: Back 4 Nathans Courage if odds allow, $1.65 early isn’t too bad. FF:4/3/2,6,8/2,6,8. $6 for 100%, I’ll be rotating the 3 through for varying percentages.

R2: Not sure how this will go early, would think one of 8 Glenferrie Rustler or 10 Ima Connoisseur would push forward early to try and get an advantage on Beaudiene Boaz. 1 Ya Dreamin is likely to want to kick up early so it can hand up to something decent from out wide, others drawn well will probably have the same idea so that should put enough speed in it for Boaz to have no trouble sprinting over them. If either the 8 or 10 do go forward early they have enough talent over the ones drawn well to see them off for the placings. Hilarious Legend is likely to follow Beaudiene Boaz around, I like how he’s going and trailing up with AC Lewis on I think he is a FF lock behind Boaz. Maybe Wasingtons Flier shoots straight over to the fence and possibly sneaks into the FF.
Bet: FF:11/9/5,8,10/5,8,10. $6 for 100% again rotating the 9 through for varying percentages. Can’t believe Hilarious Legend is $9 a place, loving that.

R3: Just an interest for me in this one as it’s tough. I thought 1 Donegal Kahlum would hand up to Massive Attack here after she sat outside her and gave her windburn Monday week. They have decided to try and lead throughout though and you can’t rule it out as the bond’s horses do excel out in front around GP. The more I look at it the more I think Massive Attack breeze’s early then gets the camp on the stable mate Sea Me Smile’s back and then sprints over the top of them. 2 Nothingbutadream will be sitting in the moving line close to them and has to be a blowout hope at $26. It’s going to be very hard for Foxy Dame from out wide as I see them going very slow early and really motoring home, 3 wide solo will be very tough and will definitely be taking her on. 10+11 will have back end FF claims as they will be sucking along behind them when they get moving.
Bet: I’ve had something small on Massive Attack at $4.10 and Nothingbutadream at $26.

R4: Initially thought 1 My Mate Stride just leads and wins this but after looking again I’m not convinced he’s quick enough. 1 through to 5 should all be having some sort of interest in a forward position. I’m hopeful that means some sort of early speed but there have been several recent races were that hasn’t eventuated. If the 1 has some gate speed it’s so hard to get across so no one even tries, in that situation obviously the 1 will be hard to get past. 10 Suspicious Behavia and 11 Hugh Victor have both drawn to get soft runs and if they are close enough they can play a part but again Suspicios Behavia may not be quick enough and it’s probably a bit too much to ask Hugh Victor to come around runners and sprint home in the times they are likely to in this at this stage. All that said I’m pretty keen on 8 Phoenix Warrior. He reminds me a bit of Vapour who L jones has been giving every chance of late. He can come round at any stage if the pace looks like backing off and to me is the only horse in this line up who can make his own luck and really finish off.
Bet: 8 Phoenix Warrior at around evens is a bit too short for me, some lucky punters have got a few dollars on My Mate Stride at $8. If prices stay as they are I will have something small EW him.

R5: 2 Liberty Belle Midfrew is odds on and has been supported. They must have forgotten about the team hall factor. She’s a fantastic mare and may well win it, she might not even cop much pressure but with 4 Hall runners and two announcing that they’re going forward I think you’d be mad to be heavily involved in this. Plus I’m not entirely convinced she is going as well as she can. I was really taken by Bettors Fire first up, think he can be conservative early, hope that some pace is put in it, aim to get the track up on Waylade and has to be a chance to get over him.
Bet: EW 6 Bettors Fire.

R6: 1 Ima Peregrine wants to hold up and 5 Condrieu wants to cross. Jnr can get pretty fired up in a battle for a lead too on Soho Lennon so you would have to expect some pace. Personally I think Coundrieu gets across, last time Ima Peregrine tried to lead from 1 he broke. To my eye 3 Cyamach might have a bit on them, the 3 draw can be a bit of a trap but if he gets in easy enough he has to be the one to beat. Even taking the gallop into account I thought Condrieu was disappointing, I always thought out in front around GP he was going to be a bit of a giant killer but it just doesn’t look like eventuating. Soho Lennon was good last week but I don’t see him leading and I can’t see him winning this not leading at this stage.
Bet: 3 Cyamach win.

R7: 1 Hez Got The Nod looks the leader and excels in that position, $35 is probably a bit of overs but he would have to find a bit. 6 Danieljohn has been flying and gets a let up at the handicaps, his chance may be if he tries to get around early and hope the 1 hands up as if he is around the same place in the field as some of the back markers I don’t think he has the quartes in him to go with them. Classic American was driven properly and won accordingly last start, even of the 20m I think at this stage of their campaigns having to work around a field Classic American just has that bit too much zip for Elegant Christian. Chief Thunder Cloud is always consistent and has to be a winning chance, it really should be 6,8,9,10 fighting this out.
Bet: Classic American the win.

R8: Really liking this race as I expect to see some real fireworks early. High Courage and Authorised have announced they are going forward and 1,2 and 3 all like to race forward, expect Onedin Crusader to come out under the whip so it will be interesting to see if the 1 is willing to hand straight up. Really this plays into 8 Vapours hands and the $3.20 around on sportsbet does look a real luxury. L Jones can pull him out whenever the speed settles and you know he is going to play a massive part. That said my best bet of the night is 5 Dardy Delight EW, outstanding value at $21 and $5 currently available sportsbet. Last start he run The Bucket List (a very good horse) to a half head eating up the ground on him late in a 56.2 last half, the start prior he stuck on well to finish well within the sights of Elegant Christian and the like. His recent racing has been at the stand but the mobile is no issue, he just grabs hold early with the speed all happening to his inside, driven nice and soft he will be erupting late. BANG!!!!
Bet: EW No5 Dardy Delight.

R9: I’ll be staying out of this although I do think 8 Char Ming is a pretty decent trotter and the $2.30 available at the moment isn’t bad.
R10: Another race that probably shows up the deficiencies of the westbred horses at the moment. 5 Not Small is currently around an EW price and I think he can probably shoot over and give a sight, will only be backing him if I’m having a good night.

Thought I'd just have a look back at a couple of stewards reports to see what had been said/asked and it makes for some interesting Sunday reading. I started off looking to see how many jnr had over driven of late but got more interesting. Start of with that issue though.

R2 3/07/15. Classic American: CLASSIC AMERICAN NZ (Gary Hall Jnr) – Jumped sideways at the start. Gave ground over the concluding stages. A post race Veterinary examination found this runner to have had breathing issues at the completion of the event. Stewards questioned driver Gary Hall Jnr in regard to the tactics he adopted in particular the reasons for making a three wide move in the middle stages to lead the one wide line going off the back straight to receive the bell. Mr Hall Jnr put forward that he had an easy run in transit and felt the horses leading were slowing the tempo of the event and as a result he believed it would be a good time to make a move forward, in an attempt to either find the lead or a position outside the leader. Mr Hall Jnr was able to find the position outside the leader but at that stage CLASSIC AMERICAN NZ began to over-race and gave ground from approximately the 400 metre mark. Mr Hall Jnr also put forward that as CLASSIC AMERICAN NZ had breathing issues in the past and it may be best driven conservatively at this stage of its preparation, and would not be used to make a run in the middle stages of the event. Stewards noted the comments of Mr Hall Jnr.

Involves my all time favourite steward comment of "Stewards noted the comments of (insert name)". Mr Hall jnr put forward it may be best driven conservatively at this stage of its preparation. Why wasn't it then?!?!?

R6: Captain Oats: CAPTAIN OATS (Gary Hall Jnr) – Over-raced in the middle stages of the event. Gave ground over the concluding stages. Placed on its last chance to race competitively.

I've watched the race live and on replay a couple of times, didn't see any attempt to actually restrain Captain Oats or notice it fiercely over racing. Leader got nicely softened up though, stable mate won from the back. Slowest quarter the last quarter. This is more of a conspiracy theory one though, horse may well have just pulled and I can't didn't pick it up but it fits with my brief.

Ripper night for jnr on the sat though, 3 drives 3 wins.

Then this Friday we've had him rate Cyamach beautifully out 3 wide like he use to do time and time again, like I would have liked to have seen/expected to see Classic American driven to actually give it a chance and I thought beauty he's back on track, the other drives were just brain fades. The very next race however it's literally Classic American all over again with Why Live Dangerously but as previously mentioned anyone who's worth their salt knows this horse is far weaker. Not surprisingly he weakens, 2 of the reaming 3 stable mates run 1,2. Leader and breeze horse have their chances destroyed. Waiting for the stewards report here but as of yet there is no QDT besides the horses name in the results. It's before my time but reading John Hunts book I noted the Sean Harney had a few very long stints on the sidelines for not driving to give his horse it's best chance to finish in the best possible position. Maybe if some of these were handed out these brain fades wouldn't happen.

The more interesting part involved race day treatment suspicions I hadn't heard, normally listen to the stewards on a Monday morning but giving racing radio a spell.

SHEER ROCKNROLL (Stuart McDonald) was a late withdrawal from the event at 7.20pm by Order of Stewards after Racecourse Investigator Phil O’Reilly reported to the Stewards that at a pre race stabling inspection, SHEER ROCKNROLL was found to have a puncture mark in the jugular area with traces of blood in the early afternoon on race day. Mr Olivieri put forward that the horse had been treated earlier in the week but this was unable to be substantiated as Mr Olivieri did not have an up to date log book as required by the rules. As a result SHEER ROCKNROLL was a late withdrawal from the event. Stewards also interviewed course Veterinarian Dr Tom Rieusset who also inspected the puncture wound on SHEER ROCKNROLL’s neck but he was unable to determine if and when this filly had been treated. Stewards felt under the circumstances that it was in the industries best interest to withdrawal the filly from the event as they could not be sure that SHEER ROCKNROLL had not been treated the day of the event.

From what I read here my take is that scratching this filly is as far as this is going? Can someone help me out regarding is there an inquiry or not? Surely this is being looked into further? If a horse is going to be presented to race yet stewards can't be convinced that there hasn't been a race day treatment then surely there is a problem here? Then this one on similar lines.

Stewards questioned Trainer Mr Peter Tilbrook (LA MIA JULIETTE) in regard to a point on this filly’s neck close to the jugular vein which was swollen. This came from a report from Racecourse Investigator Mr Phil O’Reilly who had conducted a pre race stable inspection at Mr Tilbrook’s property. Mr Tilbrook reported that LA MIA JULIETTE had had an issue with the swelling on its neck for a long period and this was reiterated by course Veterinarian by Dr Tom Rieusset who inspected the filly and found this swelling to be from an old treatment. As a result Stewards allowed LA MIA JULIETTE to take its place in the event.

The real cake taker for me here is this
PETER TILBROOK

Fine $100

190B(1)

Fail to keep up to date treatment book

$100 fine for the thing that is meant to be there to defend him when incidents like this come up, if a steward comes to your property and it looks like your horse has been treated and you can't open up your log book and go "No this is when she was treated and this is what with" then what, the stewards just take your word?? Mr Olivieri couldn't supply this vital information which is meant to be recorded either, not even a mention of a fine for him (Which is why maybe i'm hoping this is looked into further). Who cares about racing integrity, if you are doing the right thing then this information is meant to be there to show it. If you don't have it surely it is worth more that a $100 fine or his comments were noted.

These are not meant as personal attacks, I just want to know how an industry which depends on integrity can be policed so softly?

R1: No1 Sprinter does look the obvious leader and winner but leave me out at the $1.25. I've been really taken by the last two runs of No7 Natural Disaster, I think he can drop out early and run past a lot of them. $3 a place is attractive to me. No2 Mister Versace will drop straight in behind the leader and just has to match it's first run to be a massive top 3 chance. If the odds are right I'll be having a decent go at these 3 in the Quin and having them as standouts in tris for varied units.

R2: I don't have a firm opinion in this, the $5 and $1.50 that was initially available Zenart would have been attractive for a 1 by 2 bet as I think he is loaded with talent, wether talent alone will get him past the stable mate with the ground he is likely to be looking to make up time will tell.

R3: I initially thought No8 Snappy Rufus could get across to the breeze easily and run a massive race. After reassessing I just don’t know that he can settle over the trip. Avalon Bromac isn’t one of my favourites and I see him having to do a fair bit in the run with Snappy Rufus being in the dominant position. In this class he could go 3 wide solo and win it but it will be without me. I’m really liking the backline. I see them all getting to the fence and getting super soft runs, gaps opening up and all of them weaving and dive bombing late. I will be backing the one out of 10,11,12 that is paying the most and maybe playing the novelties them beating the 8 and 9 exactas if the odds look good.

R4: The new Hall runner No11 Cyamach has competed against some very good ones. Doesn’t guarantee anything but be good to see it go around. I wouldn’t be backing anything else in the race or it on speck.

R5: I would think Jay Bees Grin should be letting Onedin Crusader across to maximise its chance to earn. I don’t know that I’ve ever backed a K Sheehy winner but I’m willing to have a go here.I know the stable have declared their intention to lead with the 1 but I really think that the lead is Onedins and the race is his for the taking. Happy to have a go at the $6. A lot of junior drivers in this, sometimes that leads to carnage. There are some horses in this that are flying but if they did happen to go mad I think Hez The Bartman could pull one out of the blue.

R6: Rightly or wrongly the Hall camp have declared there intentions to try and lead with Soho Highroller. It certainly adds interest to the race. Can he hold David Hercules? Does Morgan just come out evenly and rate Herc in the breeze? Mike Reed said he wanted to try and get a forward spot with Libertybelle Midfrew as well. For me at the $8.50 on Sportsbet you have to back No5 My Hard Copy EW. I see him possibly ending up 1 out 2 back coiled up with electric sprint ready to charge. He will definitely get his chance and is a massive play at the EW odds.

R7: Only 5 fillies going around now but some talent amongst them. No1 Dodolicious is the obvious stand out choice as it looks to be the leader. Sheer Rocknroll looks likely to have to breeze in this and I can’t see it getting over Dodo doing that. I'm a big wrap for Dame Puissant, should get to see it in the 1,1 following Sheer Rocknroll. If the price is right I may have a little on the dame to topple the Dodo, will need some speed on but I’m expecting a massive sprint.

R8: Am loving how Lies A Lot has been going and am expecting to go even better with a sit. To me there is no obvious leader here so that should help with some speed for the 11 and drawn one of the fence she should be in a great spot. Can't believe there was $26 available and $18 is still available.

R9: No3 That’s Rite and No4 Glenferrie Rustler look to be the ones vying for the lead. I think Glenferrie can actually get across and even if he can’t I think he can sit outside the 3 and beat him. Will be backing him in at the $4 with 365 as I just think he has a bit of a class edge.

R10: Good luck to all.

The quad saved my night last week and I think the early quad might be worth a go1,2,7/1,8/9,10,11,12/11. $24 for the unit.

Good luck to anyone having a go, looking forward to an enjoyable night as I'm pretty confident of getting a good sight from my selections.

Back for another crack.

R1: There should be a tussle between 1 Major Dance and 3 My Mate Stride for the lead. Major Dancer is a little one paced so is a chance to get crossed but I'm not sure. Either one leading is in with good winning claims, I think My Mate Stride can even win breezing. Hoping that they might over do it a bit early I'm going for Moonlight Rockhole on top, he was unlucky last week which he can be as he is one dimensional but dropping straight back here with a small field he doesn't have to many to avoid in the run home. Not desperate to have a bet though at the $6 available, happy to watch if I can't get around $8.

R2: This is not a race I'm overly interested in betting in but it could actually be really interesting to watch, think it might be last man standing kind of stuff. I think any of the inside 6 horses could be having a crack for the lead. I thought my old mate Paramedic showed a tiny glimpse of something last start, he is one of those horses if he is in his happy place out in front he can be very good. Good luck catching him though, if he's 50/1 I'm having a couple of dollars on. I suspect Washingtons Flier will just drop out and as such could be the last one standing, I don't really like the horse but just with how I think it's going to unfold if he gets to somewhere around the $7 I'll have a go. Plenty of the rest of them could win with the right trip.

R3: I think there is a bit of a chance to make some money in this race. Initially I had Soho Lennon leading and winning but with Jaybees Grin signalling his intention to at least try and lead it makes it a little more interesting. Soho Lennon has the form on the board and is the class but at $2 I'll be betting around him. If Condrieu was mine I would be having a crack for the top, I think he can get across them relatively easily but again from comments made unfortunately he is going back. 12 Ohoka Cooper has raced in some similar races to Soho Lennon along the way and hasn't been far away. He was hopelessly held up last start so forgive that. With the 3 horses inside on the front looking to go forward 12 is a good place to be and Howson is a good driver on a versatile horse. All over the $8 a place and taking a small piece of the $40 the win.

R4: Kiralin at around evens is not for me. It does have a lot going for it in that she has gate speed, has a good quarter in her and does like the sort trip but she is far from a world beater. Maybe I'm wrong and she just gets an easy lead and a soft win but again happy to bet around the fave as being over the 1700m there should be natural pace. I think 10 Here Comes Zoe is flying and again am keen to have a crack at the $8 a place available. She will obviously just drop out early and need a few breaks but Dylan Edgerton-Green is very good at driving these swoopers, she's won 8 at the trip and I guarantee she will be charging at the finish.

R5: I want Cyclone Mitch to get a run in this. He is finally starting to hit his straps for Svilicich and can breeze and win this. If he doesn't get a go then it's pretty simple, jump on the other Svilicich horse Onedin Crusader to breeze and win! Mein Guy and Lord Lombo are both horses I've backed recently and there is no way I could be backing them again on form but they are horses I can't catch, I know Mein Guy is way better than he was going before a brief let up. I suspect the shorter they are the better both will go as it may be a sign they have turned the corner. Some talk that Cyamach was just a run last week but I thought it was pretty good, was 3 deep for a fair while. You can leave me out of the $1.85 though, no way I would be backing it to get around either Svilicich horse 3 wide solo which is the only place I can see it again.

R6: I don't know how good John Of Arc is but I suspect it may be going to get this race on a plater and that come jump time the $2.90 that is still available will seem value. I just think it's going to walk to the front and one thing I know is it has a quick quarter in it. I'd love to see Bettors Fire run the arm and really pressure it, my gut is that it would crack. Bettors Fire does represent terrific value at $17 but the fact that it is that price and is first up with probably a long campaign ahead of it that we aren't going to see the tactics I would hope for. Surely there are too many obstacles for My Hard Copy this week? I think there will be too many road blocks,

R7: There are some good two year olds here. There have been some good performances but you look through the form and there are a hell of a lot of 31+ first quarters amongst them, that should not be happening tonight so it should be time to separate the boys from the men. Ideal Tyson has led and cracked before so to me the odds on is too short. I'm going to just be watching to form more of an opinion on them but there is definitely going to be some value available on some good horses.

R8: 10 Suspcious Behaviour is double figure odds, yes please!! Snappy Rufus is going to be pulled on by both the 2 and the 3. I can't see them crossing him thought. He is a terrific horse to be following as he is strong and likes to run an even pace as he struggles to settle if restrained. Then it's just a matter of getting a split. Voak may even have to restrain and look like he's costing himself a bit of ground but of a soft trip I think he has the quarter in him to get over them.

R9: I think at $7 and $2.15 for Chief Thunder Cloud you can't go wrong with a heavily stacked place bet to make yourself a profit and a few wins in case the fav does something wrong. The horse is flying, steps from the stand and is versatile. Obviously with 11 wins from 13 starts Elegant Christian is a super talent but first go at a stand fresh there is a chance he may drop his bundle. I like a punt and I just see Chief Thunder Cloud a place a good way to accumulate some funds.

R10: Good Luck.

Hopefully some winners there and everyone's horse gets a fair crack on the night.
