I note the Bond stable have been strongly patronising Albany this year, raising the standard of horse significantly. A $6500 race at Albany is a considerably easier ask than one at Pinjarra and they have been cleaning up, probably to the chagrin of some of the local trainers. But smart move, Yesterday they took a truckload down there, 7 starters I think and went home with $35k in stakes. Only noticed because our local star Kimba Bay was in the Cup ...Harvey/Albany Cup??..and ran a close 3rd after winning the real Albany Cup (also $30k) 2 starts back.
Then today, litlle All Aussie Boy won the South West Derby ($8k) at Pinjarra to break a run of 3 seconds and edge over $100k in stakes (after Westbred bonuses). So, smart work by them all, nice way to spend a long weekend. Manji, centre of the Pacing Universe, eat your heart out Beautide haha.

Not the best of meetings for a friday night, I certainly have no specials. Hoping its just coincidence that everything I backed yesterday arvo with 365 just happened to be at there limit because I tried to back 4 horses and all were refer to a trader and cut down, not talking big bets but I think the most I managed to get on for at the addvertised price was $9.03!!! So no bid windfalls for me tonight.

Have been backing Intrepidation, I really dont know if he's going well or not anymore he's been galloping that badly at the stands but I think he's a good chance of zapping them at the start tonight. Good luck to anyone who got the 40/1, if he doesnt show anything tonight he's sacked.

Think there might be a really good speed in The Court Jesters race allowing him to get over them late, just hoping they keep Erskine Range working that bit too long.

Bellas Arockstar loves the trip and the rails, provised Vladamir doesnt build a wall in front of him the 30/1 EW looks very nice.

Lastly for me Lisharry is drawn to play a massive part as leading I think he can run home in sectionals that make it impossible for the back markers.

Good luck all. Anyone heading to the sales?

Well, against my "the glass is usually half full" attitude, this is an absolute joke. Thrown out on this forum by Gigamesh,I have watched it closely. 3 starts ago in a stand, it galloped out....and galloped......and galloped...ran last, never really tacked on, did nothing. Fair enough. Then Feb 20th, draws 6 in a mobile. The report said "showed gate speed".....when in fact it ambled out, I could show more gate speed...dragged back to last, stayed there, did nothing. On Tuesday, it draws 5, albeit in a somewhat weaker field but not much weaker. It flies the gate with "blinding gate speed", leads easily and wins after being supported on TAB from $9.30 into $4.20 in the last 15 minutes of betting. I anxiously await the stewards report...betting it will say (a) nothing (b) driver queried, comments noted or (c).....long odds here..."Enquiry opened and adjourned into improved performance et al". Perceptions are everything and this looks very ordinary.

Don't like to say it but David Hercules aside, and a couple of other handy types, the field is pretty average for an Inters Heat. 6 out of 10 are M5 or less, an out of form M8 that blew up last start and a couple of others that have been around so often they could do it with their eyes shut. Gee, no wonder us nostalgic s hanker for the past. Very little depth in fast class ranks at all. Race is interesting because David is drawn to lose but if he doesn't win, would the winner bother heading East for the final at Menangle?

It should really say they are too soft. Not sure if anyone caught race 6 at Northam last thurs night. I happened to be up there, first time in nearly ten years. Tagged along with a slow one that went up there and is still running. I was looking forward to seeing Its all about Nicole run, have always liked the horse. Although it has had a few issues along the way it looked like a nice race for it. Unfortunately it didn't work out because G Filardo on 100/1 outsider Spoilt Rich decided to pull it on for the first lap and a half only to be gone at the bell and then to be beaten 92.4m. Now previously I have stood up for the part timers rights to drive there own horses if they show that they are competent. This drive clearly shows he isn't! Not only did he not give his horse every chance to finish in the best possible position but he destroyed the chances of another horse as well. Here is the stewards report.

SPOILT RICH (John Filardo) – Performed poorly. Underwent a post race Veterinary examination where this gelding was found to be slow to recover. Stewards questioned driver John Filardo in regards to the driving tactics he adopted in tonight’s event. Mr Filardo explained that it was the gelding’s first run in over two months and that it was very fresh in the preliminary and was difficult to control in the early stages of the score up. Mr Filardo further explained that SPOILT RICH is a difficult type of horse to drive and initially racing shortly after the start he didn’t want to restrain the gelding as it is known to do things wrong during the running of its races. Stewards were of the opinion that Mr Filardo had erred in his tactics in tonight’s events, and felt he should have made a greater effort shortly after the start to restrain the gelding and possibly gain a trailing position and that any repetition, action may be taken against his reinspersons licence. SPOILT RICH was stood down from racing for 6 days and until such time as the completion of a satisfactory trial.

At least it doesn't just say "his comments were noted" but how are we as punters supposed to have any confidence in what we're backing if we can be served up a drive like that which destroys the chances of two runners, you've just done your money cold yet all that is issued is a warning. In days gone by you would have copped 6 months.

R1: 2 Denny Crane is likely to be a short price favourite but I’m happy to punt against him. I’m just not fully convinced with his form yet, he has competed against some good ones but he was also beaten in a C0-C1 at Albany 4 back. 1 Suspicious Behavia does have gate speed and I wouldn’t be shocked to see them hold the front. 10 Oneonthewood has won his last 2 from last at Busselton which is near on impossible to do and has done so beating some handy types. I expect the 9 will go straight to the rails so that will let Oneonthewood get straight to the moving line, if it’s close enough and gets clear running I think it can give it a real shake. Don’t know anything about the driver K Prattan other than he has driven this horse well it’s last two, happy to have something on that it can happen again. Tip: No10 Oneonthewood. Bet: Oneonthewood EW loving the $21.
R2: No3 My Samantha Jane is flying. I suspect she’ll get the top and be too good although if the 1 or the 2 did decide to push up under her she would still win from the breeze IMO. 9 Dardy Delight is going to find itself in a good position early and if MSJ finds the top then Prentice can move around to the breeze. Has to be the danger. Tip: No3 My Samantha Jane. Bet: My Samantha Jane is too short to worry about but nothing else I wont to back to beat her.
R3: Competitive non bet event for me.
R4: Like this race. Pretty keen on 1 Intrepidation stepping to the front and really giving them something to catch, he is flying at the moment. Donegal Chockin and Bartowski will be looking to get across him early, I don’t think they can but even if that happened to it wouldn’t be the end of his chances. 12 Mach Banner improved a mile second up. If he can bring something like that form he has to be the main danger, should be working his way around to the breeze as soon as they settle. If The Phantom could step in front of him he would probably make the move first and then get the 1,1 which would give him FF claims. 5,7 and 8 all have solid FF claims getting straight to the fence. Tip: No1 Intrepidation. Bet: Have backed both Intrepidation and Mach Banner, still think Intrediation is at good odds at $13.
R5: I don’t like these races where there are so many Jnr drivers from a punting point of view. High courage and to a lesser extent Chief Thunder Cloud will be dominating the market. I wouldn’t be surprised if they go out to hard in this and set it up for something like Bettor Party, Mighty Flying Thomas, Menalaus Of Sparta or Ballas Arockstar but I’d be guessing if I was to pick one out. Maybe Bettor Party camped 1,1 on the back of Chief Thunder Cloud. Tip: No1 High Courage. Bet: I’ve had something small on all the horses I’ve mentioned above at the big odds.
R6: A lot depends on what Copagrin is going to do. If he is going to hand up to Dashing Cristian it just about makes that horse a good thing. If not then a lot of others come in to play. Copagrin would need to improve a lot on his last couple but he grows a leg on the fence, surely against this lot he’s a good chance for an all the way win. Dashing Cristian can still win from the breeze. The horses drawn 8 and 9 will be getting lovely runs and have ability so have to play a part. I liked Ben Cartwight to play a part last week and he never got clear, don’t know where he gets to in this race but at a price he can play a part. A lot harder for Galactic Galleon in this, I hope he pushes forward early and puts a bit of speed into it but suspect he’ll go back. Think the 1,2 and 6 are the winning chances. Interesting Copagrin, Galactic Galleon and Dashing Cristian have all announced they are going forward, could put the speed into it and set it up for Ben. Tip: No1 Copagrin. Bet: I’ve backed both Copagrin and Ben Cartwright.
R7: Wish Erskine Range had of drawn to lead as I think he would have made a real race of it. Classic American has been racing out of his comfort zone and doing it very well, really becoming a race horse now. I just thought though that after that last run he wouldn’t want too much more hard racing. The way the draw has fallen though he looks to cop no pressure and just sprint home. I’m not expecting it to be as big a margin as a couple of his wins have but should get the job done. Walter James probably kicks through from 2 to hold the breeze and run well. Can’t see any pressure coming from out wide. 8 Erskine Range the obvious danger although I suspect there will be no kicking away by the leader this week. 9 and 10 look to get soft trips, no doubt one of them goes 3 back the fence but again think they may be looking for runs this week with the leader not opening up the field. Maybe if Ohoka Kentucky goes to the fence Medley Moose can get in and have some FF claims. Tip: 1 Classic American. No bet race.
R8: Straighttothehilton hasn’t quite come up yet. I’d suspect she’ll probably hand up to Massive Attack who I think should have the speed to get across them. Not sure she’s absolutely flying either but should get the job done. If there was to be a speed battle early then La Mia Juliette could surprise at odds. Tip: No5 Massive Attack. No Bet as she’s too short.
R9: Braemoor has always been a favourite of mine and I’m very interested to see him back to a race where it looks like he can get the front. Went back through his replays and he didn’t step away all that well from the inside but it was a long time ago and he is pretty much fool proof now days. Running around a 2 minute mile rate he will be very hard to catch. Thumpem looks to be the main danger IMO, I have him sitting on his back but it may well be the other way around. Either way I think leader and leaders back these are the two to beat, might not be the best horses in the race but will love the trips they are going to have. Dynamite Dude obviously has to be respected but those other two horses are just going to be straight into their comfort zone while he will probably have to work early and then decide if he wants to hold out Shardo. Tip: No1 Braemoor. Happy to play here backing 1 and 2 particularly at the $16 and $18.
R10: Max Meridius looks to be one of those tips that are just too easy to find from one on a Friday night the invariably get too short. A lot of them still win but I’d want to take a fixed price on him. Interestingly I couldn’t find a run where it has led in its 18 start career. Have seen it show gate speed though in the past but it worries me that it really peeked on its run on the weekend and has an aggressive driver (T Lewis) drawn outside it on a horse that does have gate speed. Thought if Out Back Joe could finish off in somewhere near the times it did last week then it could finish over the top of them. 8 All Aussie loves the suck in behind the leader so has good place claims and if 9 and 10 can get to the fence and Lucky Joy can maybe get a trail up into it the all have FF claims as well. Tip: No1 Max Meridius. Bet: I’ve backed him purely because I think the $3.50 is too good a price to not back him.

I have to say my effort last week was pretty poor, hopefully improve this week.

R1: Suspect Authorised will hold the front and Classic American will grab hold at the start, leave it till the last lap and just be far too quick/good for them. Authorised should hold the rest of them and run 2nd. Medley Moose gets a chance to improve as should be leaders back but he needs to because he was dreadful last start. Ohoka Squire is capable of breezing and running 3rd here, I suspect he will be fighting that position out with Sonic Classic who will be on his back through the running and Medley Moose might only be good enough to whack away for 5th. Jezalenkoubeaty has some good speed but I don’t see him using it tonight. The Feather Foot can get back and across to the fence early with the small field, might still be last with 350m to go but can zap a fair few of this bunch.
Tip: 6 Classic American. Bet: FF:6/1/2,3,7/2,3,7,8. 100% costs $12, then 6/2,3,7/1/2,3,7,8 and 6/1/2,3,7,8/1 for smaller percentages. No7 The Feather Foot the place @$9.50. Authorized opened up $1.80 for the place, punters that got that have done well.

R2: The big question with this race is can Walter James hold up? Answer: I don't know! He led and won about 5 back but the lead time was only 38. I suspect Ohoka Kentucky and Agent Smart will come out and have a look. It might work out in his favour with them both coming out as I think Agent Smart could probably get across but Ohoka might just stay under him but not do enough to cross. Regardless I thought Walter James was a bit flat last week after a great first up run, he’d need to improve on that run but leading he would. If Ohoka Kentucky leads I think he’s a good thing (don’t think he’ll get over). Not sure how the race will be run but I’m suspecting a decent speed, even if Walter James leads unchallenged he likes to roll along. I liked the run of I’m A Peregrine last week and unlike a lot of the other drivers in the race C Voak has done nothing to dent my confidence. I can see him getting the trail up on either 5 or 7 and finishing over the top of them. Only issue is he had his chance to run down Waipawa Junior a few runs ago and couldn’t do it and I suspect Walter James leading is at least that horses equal. I just don’t see how Copagrin gets into it, up in class on the rails is the go for him.
Tip:1 Walter James. Bet: Tri:1,6/1,2,6,7,8/1,2,5,6,7,8. 100% costs $32.

R3: Suspect we might see a speed battle. I really liked the way Rockyourbaby went last start. Leading I’d love to be on, suspect it will get crossed though by Courage Tells. He may then elected to hand up to Erskine Range though I suspect he will shoot for an all the way win. The Court Jester was great last week and looks a serious horse. They may go hard and put it on a plate for him, he might be that good that he just wins but there is a bit more talent in this race and I don’t think the price will be right this time. Falls away a bit after the top four. Just banking on his gate speed I’m happy to have something on Courage Tells for an all the way win.
Tip:2 Courage Tells. Bet:2 Courage Tells EW.

R4: Originally thought Mon Lamour was a really solid bet. Have gone back and reassessed, still think at the $3.50 she is worth a bet but she does have some vices. 1 win out of 18 goes at this track isn’t good and she may have to face Atlastalone trying to zap her at the start (has been crossed from 1 in the past). Really like the way Intrepidation went the other day but from this draw this isn’t the race for him. If Atlastalone does get over he probably wins.
Tip:1 Mon Lamour. Bet: Win Mon Lamour.

R5: Not a race I’ll be knocking them over to back one. All of 1 through 6 might want to push forward. Depending how things go Blissful Boy might be able to get across them, he pretty much only races well at this distance so he has a show. I’m not entirely convinced he will get across as he has had a crack at his last few and not made it. On having another look at it after the scratchings from 2 on the 2nd line if Wyberg Terror can’t go close to winning this it might be time to try him elsewhere. Has Talent, I’m willing to have something small on him showing it tonight.
Tip:10 Wynberg Terror. Bet:EW 10 Wynberg Terror.

R6: This race looks to have fallen perfectly for Galactic Galleon. I don’t think he’ll have any trouble leading while his main opponents will be doing work early. I see Dynamite Dude working forward to the breeze and running well. Ben Cartwright has to be suited as he will probably end up 1by2. Looks hard for Soho Lenon, probably needs to be a career best run but can probably expect a trail up on Notabadexcuse.
Tip:1 Galactic Galleon. Bet: Galactic Galleon EW my best of the night. Quin him with Ben Cartwright,

No real thoughts on the other races although I think at the $1.30 and obviously anything over My Hard Copy for the place can add some cream to any multis for the weekend.
