Went to The Sporting Globe in Floreat last night. They are getting TAB machines in January apparently. Not a bad joint. Just avoid Wednesday nights as the quiz night is busy and very loud.

It had a TAB licence, not sure what changed. Shithole in terms of service.

Obviously or just ask the staff to turn on/up the volume.

what are they doing with the front bar area. Is it all set to be rubble soon?
  • thefalconthefalcon    20,293 posts
the old front bar has been closed since the covid lockdown. the whole pub is up for sale. its a huge tract of land as they own that huge empty block on the south side plus the huge parking area on the west side.
    developers are sniffing around.
it will be a shame when it closes as its mega auditorium holds over 500. there is a band on most saturdays. its all geared up for a biggy tonight.
i've only been to one and that was when my old friend brian cadd personally invited me.

The Charles has been a tired venue for years.

It wasn't The Angels without Doc.

Not related but these cover bands pee me off. Obviously can't draw a crowd with original songs so rely on other band's music to get them a gig. Once watched the same group copy three others in one night. FFS

The vintage local bands are a far better call.

    Sticker
an acid(LSD) stamp, somewhat like a post card that you put on your tongue ????, to make you interact with the Universe in a certain way no one else can, oh and also to drink water more often.
ayye bro, john told me he got some guy selling stickers out the back.

dude!, i had a bad trip off a sticker i bought from Terry last week.

I can hear the sticker song in my head . I am the god of hellfire and i bring you raunchy. No that song actually started the show. Then all the desperates were like pick me pick me at sticker time. Ah the good old days . Does the Charles still have the Raunchy show on a Friday arvo. Did last time me and a mate called in there for a bit of nostalgia on a Friday about 6 years ago maybe longer

i've been around the block a few times but i always reckoned a sticker was something you stuck on something. when i say "around the block", that block took me to some pretty sleazy places in sydney, rome, athens, istanbul etc ....and perth.

yeah spink the raunchy show is still on..5 bucks to get in, so i'm told....

The amount of big utes parked and fluoros wandering around on a Friday arvo along my street suggest it's alive and well ;))

Wembley Hotel's Sports Stadium is the latest pubtab sports bar to join the ranks.

Leederville Hotel is in full swing and getting regular punters on the weekend.

I’m predicting that the Carlton Hotel will soon be the future of the best pub tab in Perth.
  • ChrisChris    5,411 posts
    Sure hope so, why’s that?
  • MrDigbyMrDigby    48 posts
They had put in for reconstruction of 7 stories but was knocked back, think only allowed 4 at the time. The East Perth TAB will be going soon I believe. An end of an era in that agency.
Relocate? or put more betting terminals in the Carlton? Time will see.

The East Perth tab was kept afloat by big drug money over the last two decades. Steve Cookson and Ace Williams just to name two. The Carlton Hotel was the last stop for Ace before he was finally caught and died in jail.
It was amazing times when Ace was living in the Carlton and Cookson living right across the road in an apartment. Now it’s only small time drug dealers by the result of a huge drop in turnover.

Spoke to their property division, they dont like standalone tabs, they want them in pubs only. Pretty soon they will be the only ones left.

Mad Mark would have been there with Ace on numerous occasions Digby. Always got a laugh out of watching Mark smack himself in the head and Ace urging him on go on you fckun idiot do it again , to which Mark always did

‘The Maniac’ (Mark) as we called him in Sydney in the 80’s on course. Mark wasn’t even half the madman when in East Perth as he once was on Sydney racetracks all through the 80’s.
