    Hahahaha much , much worse.
I use to go to the track in Sydney every week from the late 70’s and all through the 80’s, as did Mark and his friends. We all sat in the same area in the grandstands. Geez, where do I start!!!
After just about every race when he lost, he’d be screaming running down the Randwick grandstand stairs all the way to the fence waiting for the jockeys to return. You could hear him all over the course. Yelling abuse to jockeys. Believe me, the jockeys today have no idea just how good they have it today. Ask Peter Cook, who got racebooks and beer cans thrown at him.
One day I was standing in the eastern states ring at Randwick watching a race from Melbourne. A big schooner beer glass flew and smashed the tv. It was Mark, running off screaming at the top of his lungs. He use to smash many glass windows too.
He also use to throw the big wooden seating off the top of the Rosehill grandstands.
    There are many, many stories.
I was shocked when I saw him come to Perth. Of course he eventually got banned off Sydney racecourses, but it went full on for a decade through the 80’s.
Very sad to see him go to jail for his involvement with the Jack Van Tongerrn group when they fire bombed Asian restaurants in Perth.
I believe he past away some years ago now.

No they won’t sell because RWWA keep rejecting new applicants.

    Answer is No.
Brad was a regular every day and night for years. He eventually was banned from East Perth.

Very lovely guy was Brad, I liked him very much. But his punting got the worst of him. Tragedy also struck at the Nutsford Arms.

The actual thought of having a bet without a beer in hand does feel like a dated proposition.
  • MrDigbyMrDigby    48 posts
Not everyone drinks and doesn’t want to be around that sort of atmosphere when having a bet.

I try to save it by popping through to make the odd donation from time to time!

Sometimes i long for the atmosphere of a friday night or Saturday race day at the tab and pop in..then realise within about 5 mins pretty much no one in there gives two hoots about racing they just want to turn their 5er in to 7 million.

Following stubbingly the demise of of Bread and Milk Runs , Drive Inns , Corner Shops , Newsagencies , Mr Whippy Vans , 4 Team ( A Grade , Reserve Grade , U19 ) Bush Footy Competitions , Fish and Chip Shops and local Hamburger Cafes . At $ 10 a Beer Pubs getting close to being on fumes . Can remember Friday nights 40 years ago standing 3 deep at my local waiting on the 6 barmaids to clear the bar , Now you could fire a load of schapnel across the pub and not touch anyone on any night of the year .

Even after countless robberies and assaults, Mark is still working in his Pharmacy.
I was manager of the TAB for 28 years. All the assaults got the better of me, broke down being diagnosed with PTSD amongst other bad health from all the stress.

Post office is still there across the road from the Carlton hotel. Right next door to the apartment block where Stephen Cookson was murdered.

If  people are not drinking in pubs like say ten years ago and TAB's are deserted so much they are closing down, is everyone just watching at home and betting on smart phones ?

It's not like people go to the races to watch live.

Digby it may have been before your appearance at East Perth.

I knew the owner before me.
Maybe you’re thinking of the Hill st TAB down the road from back then, across the road from the Grov Pub.
