Gingerbread Man to Stand at Yarradale

Breednet - Media Release - Wednesday, 29 May 2013

Leading Sunspeed breeder Ron Sayers has purchased Champion
Singapore  colt Gingerbread Man to stand in Western Australia this year.

The announcement comes a month after Sayers signed Champion New York stallion Frost Giant (USA) for shuttle duties to Yarradale Stud in 2013.

Gingerbread Man (5h Shamardal – Quaffle by Hurricane Sky) was the
leading sprinter-miler of his generation in Singapore. He was crowned
Champion 2YO and Champion 3YO before returning to win the G2 Stewards
Cup as a 4YO in 2012.

Gingerbread Man was sold by Rothwell Park at the 2009 Gold Coast Magic Millions. The Murrurundi based nursery also offered G1 Epsom Hcp winner Secret Admirer a month later at the Inglis Classic Sale.

His sire Shamardal has been a sensation at stud after career that saw
him annex the French 2000 Guineas – Derby double in 2005. The Darley
stallion's oldest progeny are only six year-olds and there have already
been 50 stakes winners of 95 stakes races world-wide.

Gingerbread Man is his latest Group 1 winning son to stand at stud in
Australia following Captain Sonador (Raheen Stud) and Lope de Vega
(Patinack Farm).

Captain Sonador was a G1 winner of the 2010 Epsom Hcp at Randwick and, like Gingerbread Man, is from a Bletchingly-line broodmare.

Gingerbread Man earned rave reviews from the outset in Singapore after
defeating NZ youngster Big River (General Nediym) as an early-season two
year-old at Kranji. The runner-up was a Listed winner of the Wellesley
Stakes at Trentham before transferring to Singapore.

He then reeled off another comprehensive victory in the G3 Magic
Millions Juvenile Championship. "Gingerbread Man is most exciting,”
champion jockey Joao Moreira claimed. "Once I pushed the button, he just
put them away.”

Moreira predicted there was a lot of improvement to come and he lived up to that promise in the 2011 Singapore 3YO Championship.

The Shamardal colt won the G3 Sprint and G2 Classic before completing
the Triple Crown with a dominant display in the G1 Singapore Guineas.
"We knew he had the ability and the potential,” trainer Bruce Marsh
explained after the clean-sweep. "And the class factor helped him run
the 1600 metres right out.”

Gingerbread Man's (pictured) dam Quaffle
combines speed and stamina in her pedigree. She is a half-sister to
Listed QTC Lightning Hcp winner Golden Snitch (Unbridled's Song).

Second dam Sydney's Spy (Snippets) is a half-sister to G1 AJC Epsom Hcp
winner Iron Horse (Zephyr Zip) and his third dam Spyglass (Sir Sian)
was a G1 winner of the NZ Sires' Produce Stakes (1400m) and Auckland Cup
(3200m).

Gingerbread Man's introductory service fee will be announced next month.

    Am I missing something here?
Frost Giant is a well bred son of Giant's Causeway and now Yarradale also secure a grandson of Giant's Causeway. Wouldn't they be competing for similar mares?

nice choice if you ask me shamardal up top , best in show and snippets in the bottom half and the dam goes back to a full sister to phar lap in fortune's wheel
good all round match with a lot of the bloodlines in any state

I'm not saying the pedigree isn't attractive, just that they now have two stallions that will be competing for the same mares. So instead of one getting 40 outside mares they may both only get 20-25....
Obviously I am mising something. Maybe a deal too good to refuse?

Frost Giant stands for $9,900. Perhaps the strategy on the yet to be announced fee will be at a different price point to offer Breeders an alternative

In the big picture sires , sire = about 5% of the genetic make up , the sire's dam is what accounts for 25%
and agree with damo similar to darley standing Lonhro @$88k and denman@$27.5k
