Gold Coast will run its last meeting on Friday,
making way for the Comm Games athletes
village and then hospital extensions.
Best track in Qld and will be sadly missed,no
plans for a new one either, leaving a big hole
in the industry.

The whole racing industry in Queensland is in a mess. In another brilliant decision, the powers that be appear to have made the decision that when the wagering license comes up for renewal in a few months time, Tattsbet should be the ONLY bidder.

Complaints about Tattsbet abound and you only have to read sites like Just Racing and Lets go Horse Racing both based in Queensland, to get the full picture as to how parlous the industry is there and how hopeless the new racing board for which there were high hopes, is.

The talk is that there would be a major redevelopment at Albion Park, but just how far the Government is committed to it, no one knows.

As far as the Parklands circuit on the Gold Coast is concerned, I was at the Interdom when it was held there.
Fantastic racing, generally very good facilities, although to cater for such a big crowd, some upgrading would have been good, and you could get on for plenty.
In fact I saw a bloke have 30 grand cash, on one night of the carnival, a third of it with big betting gentleman Towoomba bookie Pat Kynoch on a 2.50 chance which was backed into 1.90 and won.

The ID brought millions to Queensland through tourism and there was a move to seek to always have it their when it was Australia's turn. But the Board of the time headed by Bob Bentley, did nothing.

It appears that a change of Government has led to the status quo, and that's bad for all three racing codes.

It seems that nothing based on the Gold Coast survives. No matter what the sport is, it seems to go belly up after a few years. Perhaps the Gold Coast Suns will buck the trend but nothing seems to last. And now a top track disappears with no forseeable replacement????

The dog track there was very good also. It has made way for the hospital extension.

The track has been there since early 80s,making way for a 9 day event that is just a toy games now,who cares about the Commonwealth games, the best don't compete.Absolute shocker of a decision by an incompetent Government, maybe they could have bulldozed Movieworld.
    No compensation at all!
