Interesting to see how they ride Amelia's Reason from barrier 14--go forward he gets trapped wide and does it hard early. ease back and he still may be wide, but possibly with cover and ready for one last run at them

i'd snag and go straight back to last and ride for luck.

2.5kg between the boys and girls. Why?

believe me blake, in the big scheme of things 2.5 is FAR more accurate than 1.5

it does pose the question though if it's worth 2.5kg in this race, why does the handicapping template in wa only allow for 1.5 for females?
    tis very contradictory!

    carey

Here is a copy and paste fro the WATC Handicapping Policy Paper

In all mixed sex set weight races, fi llies and mares shall receive a 1.5kg allowance.

wow, that certainly confuses the issue darkhorse!!
i thought the 1.5 rule only applied to handicaps.
they ignore their own house rules it seems!

    carey

The dreaded words, 'ride for luck'--inverably never happens

doesnt happen alot id agree but i have a theory that it works more often if you end up last and get to the paint instead of trying to work off the fence at the 500 around one or two is where you get stopped in your tracks, you scrape paint and a lot of times when everyone starts peeling at the 500 you can end up on the leaders back straightening and then hope the run comes either side of the leader. imo you give yourself more hope that way but of course (and i'd imagine so in a karrakatta) that a fancied runner is in front and has the ability to not capitulate before the corner. and the way amelia's let down its first start youd only need half a run to barge through.

That is part of the policy for maiden races.
I would imagine that the Karakatta is classifed the same as a wfa where fillies and mares are allowed 2.5kg

Most if not all set weight group races the fillies receive 2.5kg allowance - was the same for the magic millions and also the derby

This years version is a cracking race. Plenty of speed from the fancied runners does nothing for my confidence.

Good luck if you are betting.
