Go Sweden! Probably the worst Italian team in my lifetime but knowing their luck they will still qualify. Northern Ireland were ripped off with that penalty but Switzerland appear the better team.

im of italian heritage, but i hope they get what they deserve. 2006 still cuts very bloody deep.....

as much as everyone in Italy tries to deny it - its Mario or nothing!

Mario is finished, was signed by various clubs based on potential & has never had 2 successive stand out seasons....

And what other choice is there? u needed him because every other striker in italy is terrible. Proof was in the pudding for all to see over the last 6 games - 3 goals in total. Its a blessing they never made it for the sake of the world cup. Snorefest games to say the least.

On more positive news - Aussies are in!!! Russia here we come.

Forza - Iceland and SWITZERLAND, would be the other (non regular Euro teams in in place of NED / ITA) ?

Australia have struggled to score non penalty goals, Rogic scores goals for fun for Celtic in Scotland but couldn't hit Kim Kardashian's posterior from one metre on recent efforts.

They just needed Insinge & put players that suit his game like Jorginho in midfield (Napoli team mate) who I think never got a go until the last game.....

    Good work as usual Paul,

I watched the first match because well it was the first match :D and i backed Russia..Ruskies smashed them, meanwhile the Saudi's who qualified 2nd in our asia group were inept at best.
Spain v Portugal in the early hours of tomorrow will be interesting and may be a very good game to watch. Not a huge fan of Ronaldo myself, achievements aside he seems to be a sizeable dickhead..could be wrong on that but give me Mo Salah anyday that little egyptian magician is awesome to watch and many times more humble it seems.
Lionel Messi also i admire, a wizard of a player who deserves a world cup on his mantlepiece in what may be his last appearance.

I will watch the Aussie matches hoping all the while we can replicate our '06 efforts, maybe they can catch the frenchies off guard tomorrow and eke out a draw at least..Our greatest ever World Cup player Tim Cahill hopefully has a few more big efforts in him, regardless of this he will retire a legend of Australian soccer.

UNREAL match Spain V Portugal a 3-3 epic that had everything. =D>
Spain were better but Ronaldo just wouldnt be denied.Costa was awesome scoring a brace for Spain and the half volley 3rd goal slotted by Nacho was just sublime.

Gutted. Nothing more to say. Just shitty luck got us beat. We wouldnt have won, but a draw was more than fair.

Must win match against Denmark now..and they have to play to win and try to score some goals..attack attack boys!!
Not sure Cahill is on the coaches radar to get much game time..

Ze germans got done :D Mexico could go far their attack and speed on the ball is high class..finishing needs some work though as they should have scored more goals last night.
    Defence is pretty good too.

Also, announced by FIFA last week, is that the 2026 World Cup will be co-hosted by Canada, USA and Mexico.

48 teams (16 groups of 3) with the teams made up of 8 from Asia, 9 from Africa, 6 from North & Central America (with a decision to be made on whether all three host countries will be granted automatic qualification), 6 from South America, 1 from Oceania, 16 from Europe and 2 intercontential playoff winners. A total of 80 games (48 group games, 16 R32 games, 8 R16 games, 4 QFs, 2 SFs, the 3rd place playoff & the Final).

It only took 18 attempts, but an AFC (Asian confederation) country has finally beaten a CONDEMOL (South American confederation) country in a World Cup match, with Japan beating Colombia 2-1. Colombia were down to 10 men after only 3 minutes.
  • paraleticparaletic    3,750 posts
great for the asian confederation as europe/south america are always pressing FIFA for more spots and often moan about too many asian teams who cant perform.

Also great was Senegal beating the 8th ranked team in the world,  Poland.  Puts europe back in their place a little bit. Gives my argument above more ammo.

    Depending on what you beleive

Given Russia corrupted the US elections, could this corruption extend to a World Cup? $41 seems a good price?

How does a lower ranked team than us draw Saudi, Egypt and uruguay ???

Their on fire the ruskies!! Playing ballsy football too i've enjoyed both their matches.Pity Mo Salah still isnt 100% though he was well marked anyway.Rest of that group is lame and the epitomy of boring imo.

Had forgotten how many actors the world cup brings out..the feigned agony displayed with regularity is pathetic :))
