@TheArmchairPunter You're right, those last 15 or so laps in Race 2 between James Courtney & Jamie Whincup was good racing. The high speed drifts through Turn 8 in particular were mighty impressive. Today's race in comparison was totally random, with the heavy showers, the safety cars and the mandatory fuel stops messing the order up big time. At the start of the day I wouldn't have bet a penny on Nick Percat winning (Lucas Dumbrell Motorsports 1st win in V8 Supercars) or Michael Caruso (Nissan Motorsport) leading the championship. It's nice to see a surprise result every now and then.

It was announced this week that the team currently known as HRT (Holden Racing Team) will revert to Walkinshaw Racing after Holden withdraw their factory support from the team after 27 consecutive years (1990-2016). From 2017 onwards, Holden's factory support will go to Triple Eight Engineering (Red Bull Racing), with the team to be formally known as Red Bull Holden Racing Team.

Sandown 500 was run and won yesterday, with WA's Garth Tander and Warren Luff winning for the Holden Racing Team.  There was a nasty accident for James Golding on the first lap.

Jamie Whincup and Paul Dumbrell cross the finish line first, but after being assessed a 15-second penalty for Whincup's involvement in the incident on Lap 150 with Tander and McLaughlin, is regulated to 11th. Will Davison and Jonathan Webb are declared the winners of the Bathurst 1000, Shane van Gisbergen/Alex Premat 2nd and Nick Percat/Cam McConville 3rd. A Holden 1-2-3.

Roland Dane has protested the result. No expert but 3 problems as I see it...first, Whincup at fault for over driving and punting McLaughlin off. 2nd, the stupid redress rule, which Whincup was trying to follow.....the redress rule only works if there no other cars in the vicinity. So when he backs up to let McLaughlin back past him, Tander has no where to go. 3rd, McLaughlin's re entry to the track was dangerous. Once you are off track, for whatever reason, you have no racing rights. Result, Tander is the innocent party, gets taken out when almost a certainty to win the race, ripped off big time,  and Whincup cops a 15 sec penalty....fair call. The future? Dismiss Roland Danes protest, result stands, fix the cars and chuck out the redress rule....Simples.

McLaughlin received a 25-point penalty for his unsafe re-entry. Hardly matters now for a driver who is not really in contention for the title.

Just to clarify my last post, Whincup received his 15-second time penalty for his contact with McLaughlin, not for what transpired afterwards.

I can see why RBRA would want to protest the result, as from what I read on the Supercars and other motorsport websites, that RBRA seem to think that the stewards may have applied the wrong penalty for the infringement committed by Whincup.

The infringement committed by Whincup can be classified as a Level 1 infringement (i.e. pushing another driver off the circuit without causing them damage or causing them to spin) and can apparently only be penalised, according to info provided in the drivers' briefings, by either a redress or if it is not possible to redress the situation (i.e. last lap of the race), then there's a 10-point deduction in the drivers' championship.

I don't know the rules or how they could or should be implemented, but according to RBRA there is no scope for the stewards to issue out time penalties for such an infringement and I can't remember one time this season when a driver has ever received a time penalty for one (except when a driver has not redressed the situation, i.e. like Rick Kelly early on in the race, who had no radio communication and didn't redress the situation and then had to serve his 10-second penalty at his next pit stop).

If the protest is successful, it would be the second time (the first being in 1987, when Brock won his ninth and final Bathurst win) that a win has come after the race from a protest. I wonder if they will cover this in the second part of the Brock movie tonight.

For the sake of the sport, I hope you are right. Anything else and it's going to get ugly. In the end of the day, Triple Eight will probably still win both the drivers' and teams' championships this year, with their nearest rival, Will Davison (Tekno Motorsports) over 400 points behind (with only 900 points available over the six remaining races).

Yeah, but Davison won the big prize................. See his Missus ???

One of the many perks of the profession. There are plenty of drivers in the paddock that are "batting well above their average" in that department. :)

Red Bull Racing Australia (Triple Eight Engineering) split the two wins at the Gold Coast 600 on the weekend. Scott McLaughlin/David Wall (GRM Volvo Motorsport) shared the other position on the podium, with a 2nd on Saturday and a 3rd on Sunday.

Now with only two rounds remaining, there are only five drivers mathematically still in contention for the title.

    CHAMPIONSHIP STANDINGS (600 points remaining)
    1 van Gisbergen 2812 (6 wins)
    2 Whincup -148 (4 wins)
    3 Lowndes -385 (2 wins)
