Only good outcome was Mad Max being put back in his box.

Couldn't believe what I was watching, How Red Bull got it so wrong is unbelievable. I'm not a fan of Red Bull but do like Dan's style of driving and the way he conducts himself, gee whiz you just can help be feel for the guy. He absolutely put 110% into the race weekend and got screwed.

The only positive thing I can say is F1 is in good hands. Ricciardo, Sainz, Perez, Bottas, Kvyat (as erratic as he can be) are all in their early to mid 20's. Max Verstappen the youngest ever GP winner. Hamilton Vettel and Rosberg are all in their "prime".

Quiz question, who was the last F1 driver to lead a grand prix on debut?
  • TiversTivers    7,720 posts
    That nob Lewis HAM

Which driver competed in the most races before scoring his maiden race victory ?
  • PAULPAUL    2,665 posts
Hamilton did lead four laps on his debut race, '07 Australian GP, but he wasn't the last driver to lead on debut.

Webber's win in '09 German GP at Nurburgring (approx 130 races).

Magnussen finished 2nd on debut, '14 Australian GP, but never led, Rosberg leading every lap. The driver in question no longer races in F1.

Regarding Webber's record, when he won he broke the record it was previously held by Rubens Barrichello (123 races, '00 German GP at Hockenheim).

When Barrichello won, he only qualified 18th. In the race, McLaren-Mercedes were running a comfortable 1-2 when a spectator walked onto the circuit causing a safety car to come out. In the aftermath, it allowed Rubens to close the gap. When a heavy shower hit the circuit with a couple of laps to go, both McLarens pitted. Rubens stayed out on slicks and ended up winning the race. If the safety car didn't have to come out, the race would have likely finished before the rain came. It was later reported in the German media that the spectator was a disgruntled ex-Mercedes employee.

    A couple of clues.
Driver in question is German and his father also raced in F1.

Well done. '07 German GP at Nurburgring driving a Spyker-Ferrari. His one and only grand prix, led six laps after qualifying last. By memory it started raining near the end of the formation lap, the other 21 cars lined up on the grid and he came in to change to intermediate tyres. Halfway round the first lap, it started raining heavily, everyone came in to change tyres and effectively passed everyone (except Raikkonen who slid through the pit entrance and had to do an extra lap on slicks) whilst they were in pit lane. Halfway round the second lap, he passed Raikkonen for the lead. He led for six laps which included two safety cars and a race stoppage. As soon as the race went back to 'green', he was passed at the first corner, slid down the order quickly and retired a few laps later with a mechanical problem.

    Yep.
He stayed on wets at the restart on the chance it might rain again, which it didn't - but would have got passed by the faster cars anyway.
And then withdrew with a mechanical - so nothing lost.

Never got another drive, and quite frankly has done bugger all since - although I'd imagine has no problem pulling a root.

Will start 2nd on the grid, Perez receives a five grid spot penalty after they had to change the gearbox following a crash in FP3.

Suspension seems to be trouble for a number of teams this weekend however good old Danii Kvyat is the gift that keeps giving. He could be sidelined for a few weeks to think about things.

    Some more trivia

The first F1 World Championship was held in 1950 and won by an Italian driver driving an Italian car. The driver in question was Giuseppe 'Nino' Farina, but which team was responsible for the car?
  • PAULPAUL    2,665 posts
    Farina drove for Alfa Romeo.

There surely isn't anyone outside Britain rooting for Hamilton as far as championship goes ?

Apart from Bieber, going by the post-race celebrations at the Monaco GP.

Fireworks on the final lap. Once again Nico and Lewis have contact I know its racing and both are in a fight for the title surely Mercedes chief's have to put an end to it before it gets to far. Very luck for both cars to finish the race.

    Bring on Silverstone

Hamilton and Rosberg clash again on the circuit, this time on the final lap!

    imagehttps://twitter.com/F1/status/749597906563371008

Perez, Alonso, Hulkenberg & Massa retire in the final few laps. Button has his best result of the season. Wehrlein scores his first ever point for Manor, leaving Sauber pointless in last place.

The Hungarian GP is on this weekend.

Currently the betting market for the Drivers Championship has Hamilton at around $1.33 and Rosberg at around $3.50. Currently, Rosberg leads by one point.

A couple of things to consider. There is a likelihood that in at least one, if not in two of the final races, Hamilton will have to start from at least 11th (and more likely from at least 16th) on the grid due to exceeding his allocation of engine components.

In as simple terms as possible, each engine is made up of six components, which each driver is allocated five per season. While Rosberg is currently utilising his third of each of the six components. Hamilton is already using his fifth and final allocation of two of the six components. When he has to utilise his sixth and/or seventh (he will receive a minimum 10-grid spot penalty, 10 for one component & if they change another then 5 for each additional component changed). The likelihood is that the team would change both components at the same time, hence the 15-grid spot penalty.

The other thing to consider also is that Hamilton is one reprimand away from receiving an automatic 10-grid spot penalty for receiving three reprimands from the stewards during the season. Currently he is on two, one for reversing down pit lane during a practice session (he would be DSQ'd if he did it in a race) and one for repeatedly exceeding track limits in a session. Rosberg is currently on one reprimand (for finishing the race in a damaged car in Austria).

I can only assume Rosberg has signed on with Mercedes going by the video he posted on Twitter today. The details haven't been released by Mercedes but the German media are reporting a two-year extension.

Another 1-2 for Mercedes in Hungary. :-<

At least the battle for third in the championship is still interesting with only 15 points between Ricciardo, third (115) and Verstappen, sixth (100). Also, now only one point between Ferrari (224) and Red Bull (223) for second in the constructors championship.

    Was a procession last night.
At least for once Ric didn't cop the **** end of the pit pits.
Ballsy move to try for the undercut on Mercedes though - has the red horses breathing down his neck late.

Daniel Ricciardo's 100th Grand Prix tonight, starting from 3rd on the grid.

Becomes the 4th Australian to reach 100 GPs, after Sir Jack Brabham ('59, '60 & '66 World Champion), Alan Jones ('80 World Champion) and Mark Webber (9 wins).

Finally Red Bull had a good race strategy for Ric!
