Williams(Loving Gaby) was probably thinking NS would take him into the race in the Lighting Stakes, too. Instead the rails group won easily.

Geographically its close to melbourne so numbers will always be boosted by visitors but it was awesome to see a full field in the adelaide cup over the 3200

33/1 for the Melbourne Cup King Of Leogrance - the most previous horse to do the double - the ol grey boy Subzero in 1992.

The one before then Just A Dash in 1981.

It may never happen again, I'd bet 100/1 the Adelaide Cup winner ever winning the Melbourne Cup again.

However would've been very close to paying out last year...winner of 2019 Adelaide Cup - Surprise Baby - unlucky and fantastic run in the Melbourne Cup.

The right horses can do anything.

One thing can guarantee - this won't be repeated - a very good stayer by the name of Lord Reims won the Adelaide Cup in 1987, 1988, and 1989.

Three in a row. That's one hell of an effort.

Collected on a trifecta with him in one of those Cups but buggered if know which one now, would have to see the minor placegetters if they rang a bell.

Royal Snack won four Moe Cups - now that's set in stone for eternity.

When he loomed up to win his fourth the roar was louder than any Melbourne Cup.

His consecutive 4 year winning streak began in 1994.

He actually went for five in a row - the anticipation that day also pretty big - but five in a row not surprisingly proved elusive.

    Adelaide Cup winner from France.

2nd, 3rd and 4th by So You Think, Lucas Cranach and Jimmy Choux.

One a champion and two top liners - Lucas Cranach was super when placed in a Melbourne Cup, powered home. Jimmy Choux was a very good Kiwi horse.

Distance racing with the imports and breeding is looking up.

Aussies Vow And Declare and Surpise Baby also leading the way.

About bloody time, some of the distance racing in Australia had been awful.

might be right over 1600m Kramer but over 2000m I’d be on the Storm.  I’d be paying the late nom for the Aus cup and make Willie make a choice if it was me.  Bob would be every chance of going one, two if he does

Oh come on. Alligator Blood is easily in the top 10 horses in the country. It's obvious a lot of you don't watch races over east unless there's a WA representative. Kings Will Dream is a rightful fav for the Australian Cup
Wasn’t far off, I’m very confident superstorm will get the 2000m and will probably end up being the better horse which is scary

I thought AB was a lay today and sure enough, he got run over late. They went to the well one too many times even after the horse pulled up showing signs he felt the run in the Guineas. I'm sure you all know the story about the main owner's wife's terminal illness so i get why they pushed on.
  • ThunderstruckThunderstruck    7,676 posts
And..if AB had of been racing in Sydney she would have been able to watch him run live as the one final joy in her now mainly suffering life..but NO, because apparently crowds had to be banished in Vic and not Sydney or Ascot or basically everywhere else..its the hypocracy that gets me.

Melbourne acted proactively and responsibly. The issue here is waiting until today to ban crowds. It should have been brought down on Friday. People's health should always take precedence over money. Not all illnesses are terminal but those with serious health issues, or the elderly, are most at risk here. The true number of cases at any point are greater than those that are actually confirmed and so that's where the problem lies-someone spreading the virus unwittingly becos they aren't displaying symptoms.

the provincial meeting in Vic yesterday the club still allowed the public through the gates because they knew the crowd wouldn't exceed 500+ and as they predicted they were right they only got 200-300 apparently

to me to ban public from provincial tracks midweek where numbers are already at an all time low is ridiculous and an even bigger kick in the guts to the clubs struggling, surely common sense from all involved would ensure there's no need for this knee jerk reaction

@hash Go have a look at South Korea’s numbers then-apparently patient #31 was a super spreader and they quickly went from containing the virus to being overwhelmed. We only have a finite number of beds and ventilators...those with serious cases need those things to breathe. You’re a punter so I know you can appreciate 1% of a quaddie is better when it’s as large as possible. We don’t have the capacity to handle 1% of 5-10 million ppl needing hospitalisation all at once.

yes but the problem is nowhere near as serious as it is overseas is it or maybe i'm too naive to it all even though i've followed it closely through the media etc

Once it gets into community transmission, look out. I've been tracking this, too. We're already 100+ cases here in NSW.  The mortality rate is supposed to be ~1% but we have 5 deaths already out of 250(5%) which tells you the true number of cases is most likely higher. Don't forget we're not even in flu season yet, add that with this virus and it has the potential to be catastrophic. HK, Singapore got on top of this and have fewer cases than us. Yes they are different in terms of geography etc but their approach was not to dither and they're right on China's doorstep.

@therealkramer is on the money here

It's not as bad here as other places for a variety of reasons, however the main reason is that we are in an earlier phase than a lot of places, hence the need to act now rather than later to keep things controlled. Everyone has the potential to be a vector, or carrier, and this is the main issue, not that your young, healthy and it won't kill you etc.

When the weather gets colder, it's going to get a lot worse again.

Once people start having friends and family go down with it, even die from it, that's when people will wake up to this. It'll be too late then

That should read 2%*, not 5% when talking about deaths as a % of total cases. This % is slightly lower than that now as cases edge closer to 300...and it is distorted somewhat by a cluster at an aged care facility.
  • therealkramertherealkramer    8,008 posts
37 more cases since yesterday just in NSW alone. Now 171 here.

^^ hang on, what about the huge crowds mixing at shopping centres...and the casinos..
ffs, 50,000 people die of cancer each year here in Oz....nearly 250 drown, hundreds in car accidents.
the mistake "they" made was giving this thing a name....

I know of people that drove to the Raiders game from Sydney(they were boasting abt it on SM)-where the number of infections is doubling every three days. The ACT only had 1 case then-it has 2 now.

I got a couple things from Coles this arvo after the school run. Bloke in front of me spent $810, had 3 trolleys worth, mostly on frozen, fried stuff. Looked like he could starve for a month and still be ok.

Gave that Adin Thompson kid a wrap the other day, he semi slaughtered two today at Doomben, managed to get posted 3 deep from barriers 2 and 5(hardly real sticky gates)including the well backed Foxpack in the last.
As for Downloading R5 it clearly should have won by a margin stuck on gamely getting beaten just a head..this is the price one pays for a 3kg claim I guess, going forward i hope he learns to not get pushed out of position so easily.

Whilst wary of the track and any pattern at Rosehill I like a few early..two of them have sticky gates so will need some luck but both are likely to race forward.

R1)Royal Celebration will be on pace may even lead and back to the less affected soft conditions suit, got beaten by one last start that giggles when the stable hose gets turned on at home.

R2)Return With Honour, this will be even trickier but am relying on Hughie finding cover in the first half of the field or even a bit closer and off a likely pretty fast pace hope he is going whooshka late. This horse has some x factor should arguably have won the Black Opal last start.

R3)Zebrowski..he looks very progressive and whilst on a steep climb in grade he was just getting warm last start..Will eat 2000m, conditions will suit as he likes soft ground..early double for HB hopefully.

Late in the day I like one at odds, R9)Girl Tuesday, she can run a race here first up..Will take on trust that Waller has given the mare enough work to figure at 1500 fresh.

I was on, it walked out of the gates clearly last thought f it that's a losing bet..Cuzzy bro weaved his way through the field and wins by nearly 4 eased up :x
