Not sure disagreeing with the employer will be an option for the new appointment.

Not sure it's the best policy with any employer.

Adam and Darren have been mentioned earlier, there are no bigger party line towers than those two.

I agree Shortie is a yes man but as mentioned previously he has all bases covered with Racing, Pacing, Chasing and sports.

The one thing that is a lock is that whoever the replacements are someone will be on here having a go at how bad they are sooner or later!

I would normally say can I have a tenner on sooner......however it has been that long since I've listened to the station, I for one wont even know  - unless it is posted here - that there has been a change!!

This release has been circulated within the industry:

    Dear
    All,

    As
you may be aware a full review of TABradio has taken place over recent months.
This review has encapsulated areas such as Content, Talent, Technology and
Advertising. As a result of  this review, a change to the Big Breakfast
will take place with current talent, David Shortte and Richard Bell, finishing
up their hosting duties on the 12
th August 2016. Shortte and Richie
have collectively dedicated over 6 years to hosting TABradio’s Big Breakfast
and a broadcast send-off will be appropriately coordinated.  Richard
Bell will continue as WA’s number one harness racing caller and David Shortte
will commence as Manager Media and Content in the RWWA Wagering division.

    A
new Breakfast Show line up will be announced in July 2016 for commencement in
    late August 2016.

    A
Scope of Works is also being carried out specific to the station’s technology
requirements going forward. In understanding the significant role TABradio can
play as both a service to punters and industry and a promoter of WA racing, we
are looking forward to building ‘The Home of Racing and Sport’ as a much loved
    and listened to medium.

    Please
don’t hesitate to contact myself or Wes Cameron (Manager Racing Communications)
should you have any questions regarding this announcement.

    Kind
    Regards,

    Charlotte Mills

Executive Manager Racing Marketing and Communications

Darren McAullay and Steve Butler is my mail

Darren Mc Aullay starting at 5.30am 5 days a week highly unlikely.
And would likely be demanding more $$$ than Timbo

Be what all say about Shortte, I think he has done a great job on the show, as pretty sure thrown in without any real radio experience at the start. I think it is the show itself, so repetitive as it is an industry so of course so many questions are going to be asked so many times. I admit I am only a part time listener after a time I find it quite boring

don't think Darren would fancy getting out of bed at 3.30am...take a lot of getting used to.

Until recently the delightful, and very helpful Ms Mills was in charge of Owners Only. No wonder she doesn't answer my e-mails anymore!!!

Whatever the changes are, they will struggle to find someone with Shortte`s knowledge of all 3 codes, the punt and multiple sports.

Not the easiest gig if you have to pretend you know what you`re talking about.

    As seen in the past!

I liked it when it was TJ and Wattsy is fun and good laugh but they also asked the hard question wasnt bad when Marty Young was on it and Gossage but just went down hill from there i like most maybe listen once in a blue moon rather listen to Millsy and Baz they cover all  topics or SEN on line

TJ good again today but gets given a lesson in racing by Richie Bell more often than a one-off!

Thats the thing most likely to hold the new guys back. Things might have gotten a bit stale but with Richie and Shortie they are all over all codes and sport, plus they know it because they enjoy not because they have to know it for the radio show.

It is not going to be an easy gig for whoever comes next. Maybe they need to make it a bit more of a rotating position?
  • ChrisChris    5,734 posts
    Completely agree.

Richie knows f-all about footy or cricket, Shortte not as sharp as a form analyst. Brad Hardy comes on and Richie may as well shut up but you don't hear a peep out of Shortte when they're doing the GP preview. Very tough gig.

Just shows how uninformed you really are Rio. Charlotte Mills has held the same position as Exec Manager Racing Marketing & Comms since the beginning of last year. That area looks after OO AND TABradio among many other marketing and Comms areas of RWWA. Wes reports to her. Fair dinkum, if you knew anything about how RWWA was structured you'd be dangerous.
