Hmm I wonder what its about, the horse won on that occasion. JMac not that hard up that needs to have a punt...right?

Maybe he knew that the 1.60 fav was off, ridden by Avdulla?

Whoever gave him up is a dog. You'd have to be pretty naive to believe he's the only jockey who placed a bet thru a third party  last season. Whether they are friends, partners or family, it's just a matter of knowing who you can and who you can't trust.

No one may have given him up.

Most of these situations have arisen from telephone intercepts and records.

Nothing to do with anyone dobbing him in.

Its about his link to a known punter (who was being monitored) and his punting habits.

Just another example of a high profile participant eroding the confidence of the punting public.

if my memory serves me correctly he was talking this horse up for a while. Cant see he did anything wrong if all he did was tell his "shady" mate to get on.

The fact that he has stood himself ( or Godolphin insisted? ) down tends to make me think he may have had a few pennies on it :-?

If that's the case and as he has been spruiking the horse, & he also rode it,  surely he should only cop a 1/4 of what Ollie received :-??

Would think there is more to it than a random tip.

Individual`s punting activities tell a story these days, just a pity those in charge of integrity generally aren`t capable of joining the dots.

    Godolphin have issued a statement

    Godolphin acknowledges the
stewards' report that Racing NSW is investigating James McDonald for an
infringement of the rules of racing," the release said.

"His decision to step down from riding, pending the
outcome of the investigation, is the right one. We will continue to
    support him throughout this process.

"Prior to the outcome of this enquiry, and in order not to prejudice the findings, we will make no further comment."

Doesn't Avdulla have pro punter Nathan Snow doing speed maps for him? Just because it is all disclosed doesn't mean there isn't the potential for integrity issues to arise.

Racing NSW Chief Steward Marc Van Gestel stated information they received on James McDonald came from a law enforcement agency.

While Godolphin made public its support, details continue to emerge
about the punter who is widely known by a sporting moniker he answers
    to.

G1X.com.au understands the punter has been on the Racing NSW
stewards' radar for many months and stewards have spoken to jockeys
about him and their involvement with him.

It is understood the punter has been known to drive jockeys to
metropolitan and country racetracks as well as play golf with them and
    socialise with them regularly.

G1X.com.au understands that the punter was at Randwick
trials on Tuesday when Racing NSW stewards whisked McDonald away to
attend an inquiry. McDonald’s mobile telephone is being forensically
    analysed.

And, the punter was recently in Melbourne for the spring carnival.

Apart from his penchant for a sporting pursuit, flash cars and lavish
lifestyle, the punter has also made himself known in the betting ring.

It’s understood McDonald has engaged a Melbourne law firm to act for him in the yet-to-be-announced stewards’ inquiry.

G1X.com.au understands it may be some time before Racing NSW stewards finalise its investigation.

It is believed investigators have a proverbial mountain of telephone intercepts to trawl through.

Victorian stewards have no knowledge of the punter.

McDonald has been charged under Rule 83 (d) which states a jockey may
be penalised: “If he bet, or has any interest in a bet on any race, or
contingency relating to Thoroughbred racing involving a race in which he
    is riding.”

The 34-time Group 1-winning jockey voluntarily stood himself down
from riding when told by Racing NSW stewards they were considering
exercising their power under Rule 8(z) by suspending his licence on the
basis that his ongoing participation would pose an unacceptable risk to,
prejudice or undermine the image, interests or integrity of racing.

Racing Australia introduced a set of tougher penalties relating to
what they view as serious breaches of the rules about three years ago
    and a breach of AR83 (d) carries with it a mandatory two-year
    disqualification.

Racing NSW stewards allege that McDonald had an “interest” in a bet
on Astern when the horse won on debut at Randwick on December 5, 2015.
Astern was backed from $4.60 to $3.50.

Racing NSW chairman of stewards Marc Van Gestel said information was
gleaned from a memorandum of understanding that exists between them and
    law enforcement agencies.

How do they stop him placing a bet on thoroughbred racing with a wagering operator?
  • tonytony    2,416 posts
If he tries to bet in his own name no accredited operator will take his bets. There is an agreement with most operators to allow the racing authorities to examine bets.

Obviously if he has agents in another name probably more difficult to police.

Do they have a wanted poster in walk-in TABs?

Spoke to a wagering operator who said they`ve had no notification.

Authorities pretending they have more power than they actually have.
  • ChariotsonfireChariotsonfire    2,968 posts
Was a rule that disqualified or warned off persons were not allowed to enter TAB Agencies.

Almost impossible to police if the person is not a public figure and the rules may now be different.

Doesn't stop a disqualified harness racing identity (disqualified in Sam Cavanagh Inquiry) bragging on Twitter after he backs a winner.  Even worse licensed persons interact with him and apparently authorities turn a blind eye.
