Yep, you have to go back to find anything decent produced on his female page.

only just retired from racing after this years edition of the Australian Cup. Could be wrong but pretty sure he'll be Fastnet Rocks highest earning son at stud.

If this is to be confirmed, it is a huge boost for WA.

Awesome Rock by Fastnet Rock (107 SW) is of course a recent Gr1 and Gr2 winner in Melbourne, he is out of Gr3 winner Awesome Planet by Giant's Causeway (99 SW). She produced three to date so far, all are winners. She in turn out of a Fasliyev (29 SW) mare, Dance On The Moon. Awesome Rock descends from the incomparable Rose Of Jericho by Alleged (26 SW), the dam of three stakes winning  Stallions in Archway (17 SW), Shinko King (14 SW) and Dr Devious (2 SW). She is also the grand dam of both Gr1 winning Suzuka Phoenix and Dancing Rain.

Awesome Rock being by Fastnet Rock (by Danehill 211 SW) was stunningly well bred out of Awesome Planet, a Giant's Causeway (Storm Cat 53 SW) mare in turn out of a Fasliyev (29 SW) mare. She has been given every opportunity to produce again at stud with a yet untried Pierro filly and a Snitzel filly to follow in the years ahead. This year she carries a full to Awesome Rock.

Around one month ago I thought Awesome Rock would be lost to WA based breeders, so for Alan and Sue Olive to retain this stallion (if confirmed) it will mean a huge boost to local stallion ranks with genuine proven quality, and from a family of black type success with direct link to multiple successful stallions around the World.

Gingerbread Man goes back to second on the First Season Sires list, only behind Pierro, after the Karrakatta Plate. Only four of his sixteen named two year old's have raced so far.

Bit early to put wraps on Gingerbread Man.

Achernar Star is a half to Man Booker (by Discorsi) and Atacama Sky (by Scandal Keeper). It may be the mare that deserves the credit.

    And AS ain't no MB......

Good to hear someone (else) emphasise the mare/s though. Has so much (more) to do with it, but so less often mentioned.

Early would be defined by having just four starters, but it's been a bloody good start.

The only problem we all face these days are the mares we hold are by sons of Danehill or from mares by sons of Danehill.
    A problem for some.

Same. Only got one mare by a Danehill sire.
Generally they haven't been much good so we've moved them on. (And / or other line mares have been better, so kept them in preference).

I'm after opinions and knowledge. Belhus Racing has shares left in a Planet five x Shake Shake Shake colt that catches the eye and what really appeals to me is that the female line has a very high percentage of winners. Does any one have any knowledge of this stallion and in particular how the sons of that sire line have faired in WA as sires?

I'm not after opinions of Belhus Racing or the trainer on an open forum as I believe that is unfair to air in an open forum (but feel free to PM me with your good and bad experiences).

    Thanks in advance.

Well you're looking at the right thing - the female side.
One thing you could look at to give you confidence is - has that female line thrown winners to that sire line ?

Also - does that sire carry any dominant female blood in his pedigree that this family (female line) also carries ?

That has more significance than what that sire line has done in general.

The 2017 season will be an interesting one.
The addition of five first season sires with should create some interest.

Who if any of the new sires would you support?

been burned with first season sires a couple of times, but out of that lot i'd also choose Awesome Rock.

Vert de Grece. Good Racehorse, and the sire line has worked well in WA in the past.
  • MinesACoronaMinesACorona    184 posts
I haven't had a chance to look at any in the flesh as of yet, but I would lean towards Awesome Rock and Vert de Grece.

However at the moment I may hold off on breeding for the foreseeable future.

i know it has good bloodlines and it may carry them forward. But i just cant see myself taking a chance on a maiden only winning stallion. I reckon with its bloodlines it should've done a lot better on the track. He wouldn't be on my list, and with race and stud proven stallions for a similar price i'd be looking elsewhere.
