Righto we all have seen or read about the immortal Bonecrusher/Our Waverly Star clash. Yesterday whilst not in that league, a race over 1200 metres at the Gold Coast two horses went head and head for most of the six furlongs.

Ninety nine times out of a hundred you'd think these two horses are cutting each other up and setting the race up for the backmarkers - not to be, Smashed Up ( $11 ) with Glenn Colless aboard holding the lead early from the hot favourite Exceed At All Odds ( $2.20 ) ridden by Anthony Allen.

For 1200 metres they went at it, no quarter asked and none given, a desperate driving finish to the line - who won ? Was it the roughie valiantly trying to hold on or did the favourite prevail ?

Do yourself a favour and watch the replay!

For sure Jum, unusual to see two horses go hard at it for 1200 metres and be the last two standing and only a nose in it at the line. Thought the fave had him about 50 metres out.

Have seen the Gold Coast many a time though dynamite hot to be up on the speed. Sometimes horses just can't run on there. That lot behind though on face value were pretty poor. Those two went clickety click at it for six furlongs.

I needed the fave first or second for the quinella and was actually cursing near the corner thinking he's bloody gone now haha as far as the winner concerned big effort too.
