correct me if im wrong.... wouldn't the rebate still be payable on a loosing bet?

The rebate does not directly affect the dividends but comes from the TAB's slice.

The Tasmanian TAB in no longer with Supertab (is with UBet) but when it was and was paying significant rebates it actually lost money in the last couple of years before its sale to Tatts.

Agreed the dicidends will change if the favourite has more than a third of the pool and misses the place.

Marko regardless where black  caviar finished the punter still has 12,000 rebate but does 200k. if she missed a place that day...
what happened black cavier had to pay a $1 was showing 50cents the place . with.the tabs  commission of the place bets.... plus  the alteration of what  the   place dividend  of hay list which went from 1.50 to 1.10 the place and third horse buffering went from 4.80.to 3.70. after the jump we  got   to grin and bare  it  can happen..
Tony think n.z. tab was in the mix, and Tasmania was handing out the rebates

For sure stg rebate is paid either way if bet wins or loses...that's the way it's played. Rebate money is already in the bank regardless of result...and what safer way then to get your 200k back than Black Caviar a place ?

But one day even a Black Caviar will miss a place - the risk is there. These rebates come from the tabs slice ? Hmmm..couldn't that money perhaps be used more wisely ?

Stg that's the thing I don't mind though - the rebate bettor is still taking a punt.

Whether the tab should be 'rewarding' that is debatable. Actually coming to think of it...why does the tab do it ?

Am sure rebate punters don't just do place bets...algorithms etc come into play on other bets, and knowing you are getting a rebate doesn't that increase your % chances of winning ? It has to give you an edge doesn't it ? For the tab its high volume turnover - found the reason why the tab does it!!

Perhaps a high roller deserves good treatment ?

There is still a risk factor, but just a little less risk than the rest of us. It's a way to keep the high rollers rolling. Fair play or not ? Just putting it out there...

It's a "marketplace" response to corporate shmoozing of punters Riders. It's an unethical con. The world of punting is inhabited by schemers and shysters who try to rort the 1 e/w grannies out of their occasional due rewards. Anytime you want we will fly to Tassie together and deface the shonk funded MOMA with some choice slogans.

Am ambivalent to it. But agree curmudgeon something not quite right about it.

At least Tabcorp shelved plans to increase takeout rates for weekend racing. Goodness gracious how high did they want to go?!! That's worth googling.

Another one to read about is the punter who won $250,000 on Tabcorps Trackside game...auditors, officials, were all sent in...couldn't find anything wrong with the machine, but couldn't locate the punter either! Strange goings on there - think that was a few years ago.
