As I have always thought - local sires more than hold their own
So is the WA Racing industry made up of 40% interstate bred and 60% locally bred???
That'd need to be the percentages for local bred animals breaking even. Got a feeling if you could segregate the percentage of WA bred runners for winners, the ratio would be VERY small
The emergence of the RJP train has forced the hand of a lot of Breeders here. They simply have to look to Eastern States based Stallions, especially on damlines, in an effort to improve local stocks. The problem is financial. Broodmares for the most part have been incredibly hard to buy in the last three years. This week there is a slight crack in the wall, except for those contested Lots, then they go straight through the $500,000 barrier in a fight to the death between the movers and shakers of the Industry. But there have been some reasonable purchases in the last 48 hours that should see profit for those with some longterm vision.
Nice increase in funding announcement. Gives confidence in the strength of the (racing) industry. Good to see the increased stakes applied to midweek and provincial races exclusively. Close the gap there somewhat......
