Half time at the Carnival. For punters the third quarter ( premiership quarter ) is Oaks Day. Ladies Day. Traditionally has mostly been a favourites race for the three year old fillies, the exception being the massive boilover in 2016 - Lasqueti Spirit.
Two winners had a lot of time for were Samantha Miss and Dear Demi both all quality.

This year like Amphitrite and Very Elegant. Both ran on Saturday with next to no luck. She can pull a little Very Elegant, so needs to settle and hope for a good speed on up front. Amphitrite was held up badly and could have tested the top class Shillelagh with a clear run.

The other terrific race is "The Subzero"...the race for the grey horses. One of the best races to watch of the carnival. Former WA horse Ripper Rio goes around at cricket score odds...wasn't too bad at Geelong when 150/1. In the Hayes/Dabernig stable - am having $2 eachway on him! At about 66/1 that's enough, he's the rank outsider.

+1 -1

Also a Verry Eleegant fan but the failure to settle is a worry and she has drifted accordingly.Could still win the thing if they make it a real test

Need them to go at the Derby speed, that was frantic...the way races use to be run! Roughies out the front setting up a cracking speed.
Doesn't happen enough anymore. The Derby was a fantastic race to watch.

See that there was 69.5 lengths between first and last in the Melbourne Cup. It's the same every year. 50-100 lengths from top to bottom.

Horses backed on the tote into under $30 that couldn't win if they started the day before. 40-50 lengths from the winner. Who Shot The Barman just $23 on the tote :-O and Red Cardinal completely out of form, couldn't lift his legs up in the Moonee Valley Cup - just $28 :-O

Ripper Rio now 100/1 and 20/1 a place....let's see if he can beat a few home...on the Geelong run there'll be a race for him somewhere if can be somewhat competitive today!

For a 100/1 chance Ripper Rio was excellent, never got much of a crack at them and appeared to have a bit in the tank.
Hayes /Dabernig am positive will get a win with this bloke somewhere.

Perfect ride Damian Lane - 10/10 and WA hoops to the fore...Mark Zahra, Damian Oliver and Lane all riding winners during Cup week.
So far two winners to Lane for Flemington cup week and one each to Zahra and Oliver.

The two favourites in the Oaks could not have gone much worse. Amhitrite was eased right up and Very Elegant - a mile back no speed on and wouldn't settle...again. Going out of the back straight 100/1.

Same @curmudgeon , Miners Miss trained by old Patrick Payne Snr....was thrown out on the RSN preview this morning as a very good each way chance....by more than one "expert". For the romance of it, 10 e/w hoping Michelle could create another fairy tale. Smiling but......as you say, another lap.

Don't Blush Baby by Demerit out of Pretty Pia, a $34,000 purchase by Aquanita Racing Vic at the 2015 Perth Magic Millions Yearling Sale, wins Race 4 at Flemington today to take his earnings to just on $120,000. It was his third win in ten starts.

@DamienWyer I thought you'd be calling out the VRC for the falling attendances-just 84,000 on Cup day, down 6,000 on last year. Which, even allowing for inclement weather, is an alarming trend considering up until recently 100,000 was almost guaranteed.
