Half time at the Carnival. For punters the third quarter ( premiership quarter ) is Oaks Day. Ladies Day. Traditionally has mostly been a favourites race for the three year old fillies, the exception being the massive boilover in 2016 - Lasqueti Spirit.
Two winners had a lot of time for were Samantha Miss and Dear Demi both all quality.
This year like Amphitrite and Very Elegant. Both ran on Saturday with next to no luck. She can pull a little Very Elegant, so needs to settle and hope for a good speed on up front. Amphitrite was held up badly and could have tested the top class Shillelagh with a clear run.
The other terrific race is "The Subzero"...the race for the grey horses. One of the best races to watch of the carnival. Former WA horse Ripper Rio goes around at cricket score odds...wasn't too bad at Geelong when 150/1. In the Hayes/Dabernig stable - am having $2 eachway on him! At about 66/1 that's enough, he's the rank outsider.

Doesn't happen enough anymore. The Derby was a fantastic race to watch.
Horses backed on the tote into under $30 that couldn't win if they started the day before. 40-50 lengths from the winner. Who Shot The Barman just $23 on the tote :-O and Red Cardinal completely out of form, couldn't lift his legs up in the Moonee Valley Cup - just $28 :-O

Hayes /Dabernig am positive will get a win with this bloke somewhere.
So far two winners to Lane for Flemington cup week and one each to Zahra and Oliver.
The two favourites in the Oaks could not have gone much worse. Amhitrite was eased right up and Very Elegant - a mile back no speed on and wouldn't settle...again. Going out of the back straight 100/1.
