Tonight at headquarters in race 2 - the bookmakers odds with one of the corporates is showing 80/1 bar three!!
Those three that dominate the betting have drawn barriers 1, 2, 4.

Don't profess to know much about handicapping and preferential barrier draws etc - but is there something awry in the system whereby a market can be 80/1 bar three and those three favourites to come out of 1,2,4 ?

What a joke betting wise. Surely at the very least they should be coming out of 7,8,9 where they'd still dominate anyway.
+1 -1

Now come into barriers 1,2,3 with the three horse scratched and at nearly 100/1 bar three why would the other five bother ? Gosh it makes it tough for them.

Most races tonight nearly all odds on favourites with most drawn barrier 1 or 2 - funny that.
Never seen an era of so many odds on favourites - realise the draw and prices can go hand in hand somewhat - but surely some of these races need to be evened up a bit.

Race 2 is an insult to the intelligence. 80/1 bar three and they go from 1, 2, 3 - is that fair ?

Hopefully tonight's fields are just a one off and not a sign of things to come.
Might be a night for outsiders as i can only really see 1 sure thing, R3 out of all of them.

Ive looked at the form and ive just had one small e/w bet Race 6 no7 Mystic Falls at the $7

If it runs up to its last 2 runs it will give it a shake - 6th Sat night  at Northam behind Mistersandman 1.57.1 and 56.1 - it got beaten 16 metres - and it didnt sneak up on the pegs - it hit the line good

However i watched its run 3 starts back at Narrogin - and the horse isnt honest - it just gave up - typical mare - so your taking it on trust

And don't forget the other Hy - Hylee Exciting - he's in a bit of form - not as well drawn this week but if has a reasonable run think can play a part.

Bonsu tonight nearly second favourite :-O would be good to see her have a win ( just for Marko ).

Recall being on a Trunkey horse one night at GP - ran second, led until about 50-70 metres from home - the winner as they got close to the line did lay in a bit though, but had the Trunkey horse well and truly covered - driver thought enough to protest - and went along time - upheld.

Another time a horse by the name of Maxmore driven by L.J.Robinson run off the track for 400 metres - and protest dismissed.
Protests - you're never in or out of it. The one the other night went quite awhile too.

They all looked gone in the first. Combat Crusade went from chocolates to boiled lollies and nearly came back again. That seemed a gigantic price.

Allwood and Rocky from gates 1, 2 - Allwood looked ready to pack it in at the bell and Rocky went backwards just after the bell but actually wasn't all that far away at the finish - they all looked pretty tired though.

Realising he's a grinder but could Hy Fyfe have just sweated on Our Perkins ? It's difficult work tramping three wide from before the bell.

Combat Crusade ran around 50/1 if he drew one possibly runs close to favourite - leads and probably wins.

In a lather of sweat Reacher and tailed off, he was lucky Our Perkins to get the run he received after having Reacher pulling back in front of him.

The 100/1 chance Seeknyoushallfind was finishing off ok.

There's a prime example why harness racing turnover is where it is.

The roughies ran quite well albeit assisted by Apparitional galloping. The odds on fave - what a battler.

Good lay - and Abby that's where the money is - in the next life am coming back to lay odds on and well fancied horses from gates 1 and 2 - now that is Pacings best kept secret.

Not all but many you can lay to kingdom come.
Have a look at the first two races - Allwood, Rocky, Apparitional and Lightning - what an inspirational quartet those four were.

Pick the right horses to lay from gates one and two - that's what I'd be doing. Not so much that they can't win - they can - but there always bloody unders!

Some interesting barrier ones ahead - Bob Wheel odds on, Nowuseemesmile odds on and Go Home Jo odds on plus McCardles Gem at $2.60.

    They don't miss them.

Not a fan of the horse but Prince Of Smiles represents some nice value and a good betting option in a very winnable race for all involved.

Has not reproduced his authoritative win at Narrogin five starts back.

Can't deny McCardles Gem didn't have very good numerical form going into the race as a $2.50 favourite - 0,4,0,5,6,0,9,0.

Go barrier one faves - go you good things!

Good run Hy Leexciting him an Hy Fyfe what a couple of grinders. Was going to run last Hy Leexciting finished 5th and has run the the favourite to a head.

McCardles Gem - bookmakers 25-30 years ago would have been begging you to take 4/1 ($5).

$1.10 a place on the tote, goodness gracious me. $1.28 fixed - that was generous for a horse that has finished no closer than 5th at its last 8 runs, including 3 duck eggs and a 9th.

Nowuseemesmile - gate one and $1.55 okey doke. Good luck.

Nowuseemesmile did have barrier one plus good Williams form - that definetly assured an SP of $1.60.

As the commentator said - "no excuses". Most of the beaten barrier one favourites have every chance.

Unlucky Marko good tip just the same.
How the heck and just love her but Bonsu opened up second favourite - I mean seriously - but hold your horses - gate 2...what a surprise.

One barrier one favourite to go - Go Home Jo - $1.80 okey doke. Good luck.
  • Ridersonthestorm33Ridersonthestorm33    10,809 posts
The $1.80 Go Home Jo was about right - she did have gate one and winning Bridgetown form - now that's a great recipe to go around at $1.80.

See what I mean Abby - forget the tote and lay 'em. Friday will be exactly the same, it always is.

Go home Joe is much better with a sit, has a really good sprint, just doesn't seem to have it when leading, they didn't break 30 last quarter, some interesting runs in that race, a couple that will be winning again very soon.
