R1- MAHALEO got the run of the race last start and duly saluted. That was on the back of some handy performances over unsuitable trips including a midfield finish over 1000m behind Bitofmerit and Buzzoom and a fourth in a Saturday 3yo race over 1200. 1500 really looked to his liking last start when able to travel in run and show a real turn of speed. Getting to 1600 looks better again for him and should cross to the breeze pretty cosy and dictate the speed.

R2- PRAY AGAIN looks to have a bit of raw ability that’ll see him win a maiden soon. Ran fourth behind Wuhan Warrior and Treasured Star on debut and was immediately tipped out. Returned off the back of a handy trial behind Desert Vixen over 1300 when taking good ground off subsequent placegetter Belle’s Fantasy with 3L back to third. Getting to 1500 looks a real positive as does the wider gate to give him some racing room.

R3- Best Bet: PASSION PRINCE looks awfully hard to beat off the back of a decent win over an unsuitable trip. Had hit the line pretty well in a trial leading in to his debut run over 1100. That trip looked too short on paper and he had to earn the win as a result having to be scrubbed along most of the way and not showing an explosive turn of speed. Was still able to grind the victory out just from Dais who won her maiden stylishly. Can use the gate to sit handy again but should show a real turn of foot out to 1500.

R4- TREVERN has returned to racing really well and is undefeated this prep. Led running first up and gave nothing else a chance. Second up he had to earn the win in a decent class one field when burning to the lead, rolling off on the corner and hitting the line hard to edge away from his rivals late. In a race with Shock Result and Tovarich drawn just outside him he can be ridden to hold them out or sit third in the clear and utilise that turn of foot he showed late last start.

R5- SPARKLING BLUE was smashed in betting on debut and gave backers an easy watch. That was on the back of some solid trial form including the Prince Ragnar trial. The debut win was strong when firing straight to the breeze and letting down powerfully when asked to go. Her recent trial was good when not asked to do much and in a race without a lot of tactical speed she could potentially find the back of Cross Statement. From there she can bide her time and pounce in the straight.

R6- STANDOUT ROSE was back to her best last start when forced to really find late to catch Native Chimes who was off and gone. Atoned for a first up flop when running a nice second behind Tradement in a class three but was better again last start when up in grade. Came from a long way back over 1200 and now looks ready for 1400 from a low draw in a race that should be genuinely run. Will need the gaps to come her way from one but proved she can really fly if they come her way.

R7- TALENTED ESCAPE was really starting to hit form before a freshen. Ran second in a fast run class one before a massive effort to run fourth in the brutal tempo staying race behind Axel ‘R’ Eight. Was given a quiet for his fresh run when being forced to box seat before shooting through on corner and fending off the challenges late. Beat subsequent winner Cable Guy over 1500 and looks much better suited up to 1800 from a low draw where he can fire out and dictate.

100% correct Chris goes and the place is already up the ****, I heard from a "good source" on Saturday that the meeting today was most likely going to Belmont !!!! Now the meeting is off. I heard he asked for a pay rise/greater incentives ($20k) per year was mentioned to me but that was hearsay. With the meeting transferred to Northam a couple of weeks ago and todays washout I reckon that has cost them a pretty packet and would put the 20k into the petty cash basket. Now with the carnival coming up any meeting washed out will be a complete s#@% show. I cannot believe I still support this club with my attendance and membership

Very disappointing to see the meeting abandoned but what other alternative did they have? Belmont not ready, Northam took the meeting last week, had the cup on Sunday and has racing tomorrow, and Bunbury/Pinjarra not in action at the moment. Plus we have cup day coming up which means another quick turn around for the track

Belmont is READY mate, there is a meeting their on Thursday next week, no excuse except total incompetence

I heard that Belmont was not ready to race at today. But will be next week . With races at Northam on Sunday and again tomorrow it would have hammered that track as well. So they have been cuaght out and have no other option. Racing is the greatest  sport in Australia for rumour and inuendo. And have heard there may be more reasons for the other bloke leaving as well as what has been said on here. But as i said the industry is full of rumour.and thats all it may be

How’s the track ready if the first meeting isn’t until next Thursday? Should we just go to Belmont too early and stuff that up as well? As spinking said they’ve been caught out with the poor winter and lack of tracks with Bunbury under redevelopment

Here it is late October in Perth, and we're shivering under 17 degrees and a further deluge of 20+mm rain.
Such patterns were of an extremely rare occurrence in seasons past, and speaks to the fact once again that Global Warming is yet another uninformed Leftist con.

As good as Chris Nation was, could he have saved the Meeting under these conditions? He was also operating against a governing body that seems to labour with making effective and efficient Programming, Track Management & utilisation, and general Staffing and resources decisions.

Now I am no rocket scientist but I would believe that this meeting has been called off because next week the Melbourne Cup meeting will have a RAIL position in the same area as todays abandoned meeting. So if this meeting went ahead it could be possible the damage to the track could affect that meeting. The problem then is "how bad is the track" because that meeting is 6 days away and with good weather forecast for the bulk of those days the track would be GOOD 4 next week, yet we have called todays races OFF. They could not go closer to the TRUE position today because that would obviously have a detrimental affect on the "carnival" coming up where the RAIL will somewhere between TRUE and 4M. This is going to be a disastrous time for PR/RWWA whoever is tasked with fixing this because it is starting to look like the place is being run by the cast of Sesame Street

It wasn’t about the money, he asked for his staff to be better looked after. They laughed at him, he said he can’t expect these guys to do more and get nothing as there already going above and beyond.

He was then offered the job over there, and he give them his contract from NSW and said match it or he’s going. They didn’t know what to do so he said he’ll make it easier for them and left..

The track curator and that department come last in the order of being looked after apparently, seems to be a culture problem

^^ i was hoping you were jesting hash....
how can any organization be so bloody stupid? he gave them a chance to match the offer from NSW and they obviously dithered so Chris walked.
you mentioned Chris went in and batted for his staff and they laughted at him. do you think the staff have their shoulders to the wheel...i doubt it and i don't blame them. they are obviously doddering along without a professional supervisor.
who are the "they" from pr/rwwa Chris was talking to?
haven't "they" just appointed some HR/PR guru to sort out staff problems.

With the weather we've had through winter and to this very day, it is no wonder today was cancelled.
I for one, am stoked that it has been called off... same as last week's transferred meeting- because the protection of the carnival should be #1 priority. In years gone by- they would have gone ahead with both meetings, so credit where it is due.
In regards to how easily they let go of a very good curator like Chris Nation- that is another issue altogether. How they didn't front up a little extra for him to stay is unbelievable!

Now- BRING ON THE WARM WEATHER!!!!

I drive past it every morning to work. I noticed the rail down this morning as well.
As soon as I heard the Ascot meeting called off today I thought what influence does Melbourne Cup day have on their decision not to run today.
But having said that we have had the most brutal winter in history.
I remember going to a WAFL Grand Final final many years ago in late September and copping 35 degrees. I am hanging for 25 degrees at the moment.

Well wettest October in many a year apparently..
Probably just protecting Melbourne cup day which is 2nd biggest day of the year outside of Perth cup day?
Remembering going to cup day at ascot a couple of years ago arriving at 9 in morning and by 10 she was packed..different sort of punter there compared to Railway Winterbottom though..

Think there have been concerns with ascot for a while. First race meet there this season rail is out 3mt instead of in true position. Whilst I’m not a turf specialist but from what I’ve been told all goes down to preparation and that starts months before ascot starts racing.. The current track manager their has been thrown under a bus with Ascot, once Chris Nation handed in his resignation he would of had the I don’t giv a f@#$ attitude especially if he had issues with management there. They would have known months before that the grass at ascot is looking sparse, whether it’s pushing with fertiliser or  laying new grass need to start these months before season opener. Hope management there will look after current track manager as he will have his hands full running both Belmont and Ascot at the same time now that Bunbury is out. FFS with the high prices they charge for food and drink there they should look after him cause I reckon the problem at Ascot is not his fault mostly it’s the previous track managers fault.
