Former St Kilda and Swan Districts player Ian Cooper died yesterday aged 75.

Ian was adjudged Fairest Best in St Kilda's premiership win over Collingwood in 1966.in the VFL>

After returning to Melbourne when he left Swans he played for Sandringham in the VFA.

Nickname "Brolga". Ian and his wife developed a close friendship with my oldest brother Mick and his wife. Same surname no relation. Not sure they will reunite as Mick would not have been a walk up start to Heaven's Door.

St Kilda won that 1966 Premiership by one point over Collingwood. Sorry Oldhendo.

Barry Breen eh? Never got wet when he went to the beach at St Kilda...walked on the water.

I remember Ian Cooper ....slim build, fair hair, good player. Was quite a surprise when he came over, sort of bucked a trend in joining Bob Spargo and Kevin Murray when it was pretty much one way traffic to the VFL.

Ian Cooper- Played 69 games, 31 goals for St Kilda (1964-69), 35 games, 73 goals for Swans (1970-72), Swans Leading Goalkicker (Ted Holdsworth Medal) in 1970 & 1971. Also kicked 100 goals in a season for Sandringham (VFA).

According to the Encyclopedia Of VFL/AFL Players he was in St Kilda's best players in both their 1965 GF side and their 1966 Premiership team and was chosen to play for VIC in 1967 at only 21yo but developed rheumatic fever which sidelined him for the rest of that season and all but 1 game in 1968.

I remember I used to collect footy cards when my old man filled his car up at the Mobil service stations back in the day.

The only cards I remember were Brian Ciccotosto and Austin Robertson jnr.

Yeah Deto, 1971 Mobil footy photo album. It has all the greats Billy Walker, Hassa Mann, Poly, Barry Cable, it was a pretty strong time for Wa.

Saturday morning ritual. Fill the up the Bronze EJ Holden with Dad and get the footy cards.

Brought back some fond memories mate.

Had the Billy Walker one along with Hassa Mann as well. Might have even included David Hollins but I stand corrected on that. Definitely had the one of Ian Cooper you posted. Remember those “matchstick arms” haha.

I think we have just shared a moment Oldhendo ?

Re  Football cards thought the one that  represented the Freo-Club. Johnny ''The Doc'' Docker with sunnies on a surfboad with anchor inscribed---history of the club on the back -- Premierships nil.----Most goals Clive Waterhouse 171goals---current leader was Justin Longmuir 132 goals. card about 2006--- 

 2021-- Longmuir still around-- Premierships still Nil.--Johnny the doc too old to go surfing.

From what I have seen on his social media I wouldn’t rule out substance abuse.

Fair dinkum. “ brand Fyfe” has already been to “Everest” when he appeared with his double onion look. That was the ultimate embarrassment. Lasted about a week I reckon.

Not sure “brand Fyfe” will quite get to JK’s manly facial masterpiece though. Surprised he has attempted some fluff on his face because his idol Dusty hasn’t gone down that track yet. Hmmm

Your a betting man Det, what would you do under the current stance.
I woul keep my two Brownlows and toss the coin re Premiership medals.
He still has another 5 yrs in him and I reckon we will win at least one before WC are even a chance of playing finals.
My opinion only.

I am a betting man and I am betting with “brand Fyfe’s” recent history of shoulder and concussion issues we have seen the best of him.

I wouldn’t be surprised if his career will be cut short due to those issues, particularly the way he plays.

Not saying I wish that to happen but reckon he will be doing a Pav ie in the media sooner rather than later.
