the way the weather is playing in the eastern states they will be lucky to race tomorrow, especially sydney.

Heavy 10 but they inspected earlier today, unless it pisses down overnight(unlikely)they will race, were quoted as saying rain during the day tomorrow is obviously not preferred.

I'm on 1 in the Gloaming, I backed Williamsburg on Monday and he loves it wet but I spy with my little eye one at value in the same race.
Coppleson for team Waller, decently up in class but the slop is a leveller and I think he is potentially a swimmer.

how they are racing is a miracle, its been absolutely p*ssing down all week. imagine a week like that here in perth, they'd have been cancelled on thursday.

We would no doubt have had many meetings cancelled with their weather.

Sensational race the Might And Power and apt given the superstar he was.
3 horse war, at least Kah got into Zaaki early proving AB doesn't stay, still argue he is better leading would have maybe ticked along a bit quicker.
Best horse won, Anamoe is a Freak and Godolphin DOMINATE a big day again.

PS I LOVE Jmac yeh boi!

hang on!! flicked over to ch78 last night, a race had just been run...zac purdons 6th winner of the night!! top jocks in HK are virtually given a cheque book and told to "just do what you like with it".

Have a listen to the interview Gareth Hall did with Zac Purton this morning on SEN Track.  Purton says he has tried many times to get JMac to Hong Kong, says it makes no financial sense for him to stay in Aus.  Gareth asks him what sort of difference would it be and he says he can easily earn 6 to 7 times what JMac would be earning in Aus.  Staggering
  • tonytony    2,408 posts
I think Zac is exaggerating a bit their.
Just taking last season his earnings from stakes were about $2.5m in aussie dollars
Jmac for last season earned about $1.8m which while less than Zac is hardly 6 or 7 times even if he gets a lot more slings.

I’d say it’s less about slings and more retainers.  If the HK owners are prepared to throw $1million or so at a horse that wins a Perth 3yo race impressively at their 2nd or 3rd start which is seemingly common place, what would they offer Z Purton to ride their horses as a preference over others?

Reality is who would know more Purton or us?  He’d know what sort of coin JMac is making

Purton and Bentley rode the 10 race card at Singapore. Purton 7 winners and all well fancied

    CAULFIELD CUP

PP reports 32 entered. Three trainers have more than half the field.. 17 runners. Five trainers have 21 of 32.

In my opinion we are shaping up for the weakest Caulfield and Melbourne Cup fields in years.

I don't pay much attention anymore to the nags, but why do you think that is?

    Covid fallout?
More stringent conditions to get in?
    Money?
    Logistics in being here?
    All of the above?

Inspirational Girl 3rd on betting for the Caulfield Cup?

    When did that happen?
  • ThunderstruckThunderstruck    7,696 posts
Can't say I'm bothered that much? both will still be super races the Caulfield Cup Sat should be a beauty..am cheering Smokin Romans who has burst out of the blocks(and I identified him as one to watch before he qualified).
Generally a great day of racing there, even tomorrow's "midweek" meeting is a terriffic card.

As for the MC it's all the better for one I'm on at 126 bucks and who will be facing a weaker field than 2019..not our fault international horses can't pass vets (or this risk has put them off coming), must keep the p.c brigade happy too.

As for Jmac he would be MAD to go to HK, rules the Roost in Aus and earns great money(plus how much do you really need ffs)and is about to have a beautiful little Jmac or Katie to add to the family. If he isn't.livjng THE DREAM in Oz idk who is to be honest.
Each to their own I suppose Zac loves the coin more and doesn't mind living under Chinese rule...

Tipping after the race is easy.
Pat Bartley during the week was spruiking Giga Kick and how Clayton Douglas was going to be the next big thing in the training ranks. He said Giga Kick training the house down and going to be a very very good horse.
Craig Williams doesn’t stay in Melbourne to ride in one of the 4 majors ie Caulfield Cup but elects to go to Sydney and ride Giga Kick.
Wonder if Jamie sent Clayton a congratulatory text.

JMac rides Durston in provincial races in both Newcastle and Wyong Cups for 2 wins.
That suggests the horse has ability because JMac wouldn’t get out of bed for anything less.
Obviously couldn’t be in 2 places at once today.

    Hindsight is a wonderful thing.
    :D

In terms of a weight penalty for Durston for the Melbourne Cup due to Caulfield Cup win - Durston didn't win by much, maybe it will be a case of "no penalty" however if he does get a weight penalty then in my opinion it will be in the 0.5kg to 1.0kg range. Durston currently has 50kg for the Melbourne Cup.
  • PCPC    2,257 posts
Do any of you remember seeing Durston run in Europe? He was a Group 3 placed horse there....now he is a G1 winner in Australia

Am sure there is a little barb in there lol, anyway it's the new model import them and race them here for a while generally, after a prep they continue to improve.
Imo that horse will not win the MC or place.
Runner up(will it get 2 miles?)Montefilia ditto on the trip the old boy VAD was good late after hitting a flat spot.
Now..what am I going to have my $10 bet on at $101 (with Betr and available on every runner)

Only 1 horse from the CC I want to be with in the Melbourne Cup and that’s Duais

So just 1 week to go seems to have come up quick this year.
34 horses left and two races to qualify or gain an exemption from the ballot.Dont really see anything lower than 24th being a serious contender irrespective of what happens in these two races, the Bendigo Cup tomorrow and whatever their calling the Flemington 2500m race this year run on Saturday.

Looking to Jonah one of the raiders with my betr bonus bet, I'll wait and see how much rain falls this week as some is predicted every day and only mild temps of barely above 20 degrees..wtf is happening with the weather it's so mild to almost cool close to 2 months into spring..weird as.
Am a little torn, i love Jmac and he could easily 2peat the form he is in and his mount Loft has super 3200m form..more than ok on wet ground also.
The other favourite "maybe" has been winning in better class races but at shorter trips and has no wet form, having never seen it..i did also read there is a query on the form from his last start 2nd and $6 is serious unders.
Overall I reckon Loft is the better chance, reckon its likely we will a wet track next Tuesday..hopefully not too much so.

**Edit - the form query for Deauville Legend is from the Ascot race in June when he ran 2nd, has since run well and won twice the latest at Group 2 level.

Had it won at Ascot and Goodwood  it would be carrying more weight in the Cup. Probably weren't keen on that idea  ;) Loft at Chester is same scenario even more so  :-B
