Interesting a horse named Benaud is running in the Ebor at the York festival on Saturday for Joseph O’Brien  and a horse by the same name running for John O’Shea in the Winx Stakes on the same day.  The Irish version is nommed for the Melbourne Cup where as far as I can see the O’Shea trained version isn’t despite being an impressive 2nd in the ATC Derby.

The way basically they nominate any horse rated above 85 for these features I’m very surprised the O’Shea runner isn’t nominated. But as he isn’t there’s no differentiation between the 2 in early markets, I would has it a guess there are bets at the $101 where people are thinking they are on the Aussie version when in tact they are not.

York Ebor this week may divulge another Melbourne Cup hope or two.

O sheas Benaud is not nominated as he has said it is still very raw and needs another year to develop.

Fair enough, but is still fine it strange they have allowed another horse by the same name to nominate, could easily cause confusion.  I know the the past horses coming over have had to race under a different name to avoid this.  Just looking Cliffs of Moher raced in Aus as Cliffsofmoher due to another runner with the same name being here.  I assume they will make them change the name if it does come over but for now it is nommed with the same name as the Aus trained horse

The O’Shea version ran a cracker in the Winx stakes and is now very short in futures markets for the Metropolitan.  Still no differentiation with the UK version in the Melbourne Cup markets and this horse has shortened to $34 no doubt on the back of the run from a different horse.  Can’t believe this hasn’t been sorted
