SCG has not been a happy hunting ground for the Eagles

I went to 2 of their games at the SCG many years ago

1987 - their 1st year in the comp under Big Ron - got flogged by over 100pts - Swans had a high rated team under Dr Geoffrey- that game was late in the year from memory  on a Sunday - Big Ron was white in the face

And i did go to an opening game of the year - Eagles might have been reigning Premiers - and the Swans were hopeless - it was Gary Buckenaras 1st game as Swans coach ( poor old Bucky he ended up having a really rough trot - lost over 20 in a row - and also lost his house in Hawthorn - because he was a hopeless addicted punter ) but Bucky did have some joy in his very 1st game - beating the Eagles in a massive upset - he ran onto the ground and hugged all his Swans players

They scored a double century that day as well...201 points for coach Tee Shirt Tom, won by 130 with Stevie Wright kicking 8. The very next week, they kicked 236 points and the week after that 198, all at the SCG.

Interesting little fact for you Marko. That game in 1987 against the Swans, the Eagles lost by 130 points. The game before the loss, the Eagles beat the Blues who were that years premiers. The game after the loss, the Eagles beat the Hawks who were that years runners up.

Looking back, how stiff was Ron Alexander. Won 4 of his last 7 games including beating both grand finalists and in his very last game the Eagles kicked 175 points and won by 88. Then he got the sack.

After the attitude displayed against Sydney, Simmo won’t be feeling as safe as he was.

As long as whoever gave NicNat the extra 2 years is sacked first, it’d be hard for Simmo to survive another performance like that, this year. Sheed, Duggan, Witherden, Barrass Darling, should be dropped or fined their match payments, as they certainty didn’t buy into that game.

How bad is this 171 point loss or more like walloping  that the once proud West Coast Eagles suffered  at the SCG

Well i did read - that way back in 1919 - South Melbourne beat StKilda by exactly the same massive margin 171 pts at the Lake Oval

However the poor old Saints were apparently down to 14 men - 4 of their players had walked off or something

Now West Coast didnt have that excuse yesterday

Late 80s early 90s when the Swans were no good at all - but they had a terrific ground announcer at the SCG  - probably would get in a little bit of hot water today for what he use to say- and  it wasnt some young idiot - it was a mature voice - bloke about 45-50

And i heard him say stuff like this in about 4-5 games

But if lateish in the last qtr the Swans got within a couple of kicks - then when they were bringing the ball back to the centre for the re start - over the PA system hed come on and say stuff like - look there is 4 minutes to go - and to hell with these Victorian umpires - theres 8 pts the difference - so lets all get right behind the QBE Sydney Swans - i think QBE Insurance was their major sponsor at that time - it rings a bell

That would get the crowd really excited and right behind the Swans - and make the opposition a tad nervous i reckon

Flax. How can you have a decent conversation on AFL when Collingwood are winning and both state teams are playing well below expectations??

I’ve planned my afternoon based on forcing myself to watch the weegirls up to half time!!! Can’t even book a full game in!!

Dockers maintained their unblemished losing record when they lose the centre clearances. Zero from seven. Midfield coach should be under scrutiny but he may be using the same teflon coating that Trevor Nisbett is using.

    Well that was significantly better.

An irrespective of the score it was good to watch them play 4 quarters in the one game

Boys had a red hot crack today. Great to see a response after last weeks debacle.
The young kids gave us a glimpse of the future. Crowd was into it too which made it an enjoyable watch.
Mixed emotions with the result. Still got one eye on the No1 draft pick.
Would hate to have being playing Kangaroos in round 20 with both teams on 2 wins apiece playing for the Harley Reid Cup. The AFL would have a real dilemma on its hands in deflecting the obvious tanking debate.[-X

It was a great response from the Eagles and the post match applause was warranted.

I do remember however that when supporters applauded the Dockers after they were soundly defeated in their first finals appearance by Essendon in 2003, Eagles supporters were scathing in their criticism of the support.

Winning is not necessarily a measure of achievement in certain circumstances. Yesterday was one of those days.

Hey Hendo. You must be feeling pretty confident mate.

I don’t see Port as a serious threat in the finals and all other teams can be challenged by us for at least a quarter.

So is this going to be a year we see THE WOBBLE happen, or are they going to make it all the way??

Hi Rio, yes very happy at this stage but hey we are talking football and still a long way to go before the finals, been here many times and something always creeps up and bites you on the asrse.
Still the boys are looking good.

Didn`t watch the game. What happened ??
I was listening on the radio. Didn`t Buddy miss one to put Sydney back in front ?

Nankervis takes out Lloyd key Sydney player head high bump after ball is clearly gone.
Lloyd lying on ground, Sydney medical staff trying to stop game, umpires let it go Richmond kick goal. Eventually umpires stop game after goal tell Nankervis he’s been reported (no free kick awarded from memory).
Kicker is Nankervis dominated remainder of game while Lloyd sits on bench for 3 qtrs watching on.
Lloyd out for next week, no doubt Richmond will appeal 3 week minimum.
Something needs to be done, if you deliberately take a player out under concussion protocol then the offending player needs to go off as well.
Richmond season still alive, Sydney cooked.

    Nankervis 3 weeks for certain.
No issue for the send off rule for that one.
Unfortunately next week there will be one that isn’t that clear cut and the debate starts again.
I don’t reckon we will see a send off rule at the AFL top level in my lifetime.[-X

They supposed to be protecting the player not rewarding the offending team.
They have counteracted their own rules.

Its Sunday mid  afternoon - you put the feet up - you turn on the TV - what i will watch

Youve got 1 of 2 choices - you can watch Fremantle play in the AFL - or you can watch one of those absolute craap Elvis movies of the 1950s - so corny you nearly puke in the bucket

No - i think i will watch the Elvis movie

Can someone explain how a team can win the hitouts 70 to 18 yet still lose the clearances.

It may have something to do with Will Brodie being made the scapegoat for the two losses to start the season. He gets first hands to the ball with a quick release to someone on the outside.

There are hitouts and then there are Nic Naitanui hit outs.
For confirmation check with Brownlow Medalist Matt Priddis. Matt wasn't a supreme athletic power midfielder. Just got "silver service" from the great one. :x

In the year Priddis won the Brownlow, 24 other ruckmen averaged more hitouts a game than Nic Nat including his teammate Dean Cox. Maybe Priddis should be thanking Cox for the "silver service".
