It's good to see some pressure finally coming on coach Longmuir. 3rd summer in a row the club has spruiked "the need to score more points" while doing absolutely zero to address the issue in the way of ball movement and forward structure.

Then you have the wonderful off season recruiting of trading the farm for a back up ruckman (or whatever he actually is) and an aging slow midfielder with no penetration in his kick (granted has not been the worst player) who has taken a position to one of two high draft pick midfielders who are now rotting away at peel.

Sadly a club that was building so well has fallen back into the old trap of recruiting just because players were available and paying gross overs in the process.

20 years since the much loved and admired Matt Price published his dark comedy "Way To Go, Sadness, Euphoria and the Fremantle Dockers"......and as each year passes since his very untimely passing, I get vivid mental images of him clattering away on the keyboard churning out yet another chapter to add on to the initial 10 offerings.

It seems that no matter who they recruit, no matter who they draft, no matter who coaches them, no matter how stoutly the die hards defend them, that the only reason for their existence is to provide grim amusement to everyone else who has even a passing interest in the game. Heave Ho indeed.

The footballing public of WA are very fickle Jay Jay........Some of the commentators and reporters are even worse!!!

I accidentally found the TV on Channel 7...Looked up during the sports section and there he was .... Fyfe already has a new job. Mowing lawns on a ride on mower.... Proof that nearly anyone who wants a job can get one. An inspiration for all people who are unemployable

An i always thought he'd go back bush and drive trucks!!!! All the best Nat

Looked bigger than 40k and 1, pretty good turn out considering the doom and gloom perpetuated by the media.

Just saw a lovely little video from north of Winston Abraham presenting Howe with his jumper. Bloody legend Winston, looking up his highlights is a good way to fill some time on a Sunday evening.

Crowd was 44000+. Can’t recall exact figure.
Liked what I saw today from some of the newbies. Noah Long looks and plays like a similar short Caleb Daniel. He was even directing traffic a few times which shows he doesn’t lack confidence.
When your that short you have to have a few strings to the bow. He can tackle as well.
Was super impressed with the work ethic of Jayden Hunt. Last quarter he chased hard to apply pressure when others would have given up.
Time to go Gaff. He is a liability.
Tom Barrass played his worst ever game for the Eagles. Every aspect of his game was off.

The Gaff comment.....I think they need to make a call about Gaff or Sheed. If they get rid of Sheed, he will be sacked with no value....If they get rid of Gaff they may get a 2nd round draft pick.

So i'd only get rid of Gaff if they got a 2nd round pick for him...My preference would be to get rid of Sheed. But you cant have 2 slow, poor disposal left footers in the one midfield set up.

Barrass, i've seen him close to that bad at least once before. When his head is not in the game, they should just sub him out!!!! He got in the way more times today than he got possessions i reckon!

These 4 young fellas + Brough, Bazzo and Trew if either of them come back to footy could be a good platform for the next 4-5 years. Also the Ruckman Bailey Williams showed more today than any game hes played to date as well.

Certainly not gloom and doom. But some good players out there today that weren't on the list or playing well 18 months ago.

If they hold up for the season may finish in the top half of the non finals bound teams....MAYBE!!!!

Tabtouch have Dockers $1.45 and Eagles $2.75. Obviously the price assessors are giving no consideration to the form displayed over the weekend.

Can't see the Dockers turning it around as they won every stat apart from clearances and scoreboard. You should be unleashing Deto.

Interesting to note that those that wanted RTB sacked are now calling for JL's head.

Eagles were $3.16 for the derby just before half time in their game, surely they continue to get closer.

Ross's time was up. He had lost the players and treated the members/supporters with distain with the way he spoke to the media not realising that every time he spoke to them was actually a time he could have been addressing those that were paying his wages.

Break has done him the world of good.

Longmuir has to be commended for bringing the group back together but and it's massive but he is of the same negative football school of Ross with no consideration given on how he is going to improve scoring- he's acknowledged repeatedly the need to do it but so far the only idea that he has voiced is "natural improvement" that was 2 preaseasons ago now and that wonderfully ideology has strangely enough produced no fruit.

Even after sat night he mentioned how losing the centre bounce was a big obstacle in winning the "territory battle". Even getting flogged in the middle they had more inside 50s than north, it's not about a "territory battle" it's highest score wins. Round 1 took 63 inside 50s for 7 goals, Collingwoodwood sat has 6 goals from their first 12 inside 50s.

It's just such negative boring footy that doesn't stand up and actually keeps the opposition in games you seemingly dominate as much if not more than it allows you to steal games where you are poor.

Re - The Derby - my take - ( and the odds on offer re the Eagles are quite attractive ) - W/Coast play like they did in the 1st half - which would have worried quite alot of oppo teams - then they will beat Frem easily

However if they play like did in the 2nd half - then Frem have  got a good chance of winning . I thought GWS were quite good in the 2nd half - and hadnt wasted alot of opportunities then they might have given Eagles a fright near the end

Thus i thought GWS were ok  - and they play Carlton this week in NSW $2.45- $1.55 . Carlton  had the big wig or important win against Geel -  poor old Cats are 0-2 - and hopefully crack a win soon . But i think GWS have got a decent chance in that game -  they played pretty good football in that 2nd half against WC . Im not totally sold on Carlton -these are the type of games they can get wobbly with - and i reckon GWS can roll them  at the odds  in NSW

WC GWS game yesterday reminded me of the infamous WC Richmond game a few years back when WC came back from 20 something pts down in the last few minutes. Everybody got excited another tilt at the premiership but at the end of the day it was 8th V 9th. And thats roughly how they finished their respective seasons.
GWS yesterday kicked themselves out of the game and appeared to be out on their feet by the 2nd qtr. My opinion only but GWS or “The orange tsunami” as there coach ridiculously addresses the side to his players will finish bottom 2. Admittedly they had a tough game the week before but you can’t lose as many players as they have over the past 3 years and remain a good side. WC played one qtr and to me appeared to slow in the last half. Will probably strip fitter this week.
Freo Sat night were all over the shop again but at least theres plenty of room for improvement. JL copping plenty of flack deservedly but how would you be facing up to RTB and AC with new sides first two rounds of the season. When you think about it he was like a deer in the headlights.
Western Derby Freo to bounce back by 20 pts.
Just wish both teams had their best sides on the ground.

how in the hell can sumich give a critique on 46 players in time for the 1st edition of the west?
any idea why the young eaglets are leaving the ground clutching artline marker pens? i guess for autographs..
the derby? freo by 24 pts.

GWS got "cooked" by the weather in round 1, minus Kelly, Himmelberg and Whitfield, arguably their best 3 players for round 2, away game.....don't think they will be top 8 but I'd suggest the odds were stacked against them with the Eagles coming off a lamentable round 1 and bound to improve at home.
Don't take any notice of the Wests reporters, least of all the meaningless player ratings.

Freo to win the Derby.. They will have too much pace for us.
JL will release the shackles. Play on at all costs and kick, handball, tap, punch it forward. Our snails will be battling to keep up.

I'd love to see Sturt come in (a natural scorer and creator) and NOD to a wing for Hughes who tries his guts out but just isnt an AFL footballer. Add Walters to the starting 22 and that would change the whole demographic of the line up and almost see the team be more aggressive going forward naturally without having to force it on players who have had it drummed into them to play safe.

Freo/Chariots what are your thoughts on Henry? Frustrates the beejezuz out of me, so many errors, zero effort after he makes an error or loses a contest.

That said if I can ever get away from focusing on his floors occasionally he does offer something. I'd like to just see him on the wing all season, basically Liam we are backing you in-we want to see where you can get to building game on game. That way if he is still where he is at now come the end of the year at least he can move on with the club and also anyone that wants to speculate on what he could be very clear on what he actually is. He has never shown what has been trumpeted, hes not fast, his skills and decision making are poor and he applies little pressure. But he does appear to be able to run all day, occasionally is creative, there's no one else!

Henry is a work in progress but whether we can afford that luxury at present is debatable, Still plenty of upside for the future.

I am deadly serious Chariots. Game is played above the shoulders.
Freo home crowd. Freo getting smashed in the press will bounce back. Eagles winning two in a row is as rare as the Loch Ness Monster.

Agree on Hughes having said that his best footy is as a back man.
Liam Henry is on the improve, showing a bit more grit this year, but he’s one of those players who will play well when the team plays well.
ODriscoll if he was playing for a Victorian side would be a star of the future. As I understand he’s injured, if he’s not he should be straight back in for good.

Tim Kelly played one of his best games for the Eagles. Especially early. Need to see more of it to repay the faith. Looks fit which obviously helps.
I won’t be slashing my wrists if we don’t win the Derby. I want to see our young blokes ply their trade and give us a glimpse of the future.
This Derby has different feel about it which adds to the intrigue.

    Where’s Nic ???
