Been a lot of queries about the whereabouts of Ernie. Unfortunately, Ernie is laid up in hospital, been very unwell but spoke at length with him today and he very much sounds like he is on the mend.

First time in 56 years he has utilised his sick leave, which must be some sort of record in itself, but it explains the absence of Ernie's Trial Report, Ernie's earners and his harness column in the Sunday Times and all the other stuff he logs each week.

Probably been covered elsewhere but I think many would be wishing him a rapid return to good health.

Sorry to hear that about Ernie

I was wondering why there was no  GP Harness review in last Sat West Aust - i thought  it had just got the flick because of that Womens World Cup thing which took up all the space etc

If Ernie doesn't come back it will give the West the impetus to completely disassociate from harness racing.

Newspapers don't report news anymore, they drive personal agendas. The Murdochs and Stokes conglomerates have destroyed the concept of newspapers, reporting and journalism.

Going back a few years, "they" decided Speedway from Claremont, once a staple, was not trendy and the cut it, private school football is, so it was assigned it's own personal reporter, Perth Heat Baseball came and went, Touring Cars came and went, they push agendas on coaching tenures, player tenures etc in the AFL, they ignore Sheffield Shield, they put trotting on the fester list decades ago, the control political agendas, drive issues that the so called editor decides are important with relentless misinformation and often downright lies, they choose which topics the public is "outraged" by, they have decided that the gallops is the only code worthy of any coverage ignoring both the trots and the dogs....

Ernie may well be 3 weeks away and I'm betting if and when he retires, that will be it for the Trots getting even miniscule coverage.....unless there is controversy, a drug charge, a suspension or an animal gets hurt.

Just spoke to Ernie tonight. He is not much of a social media person but is extremely appreciative of expressions of goodwill and concern about him. He is slowly getting better with a time frame of a couple of weeks before he is up and about again.

He is looking forward to getting back to work to keep the flames of harness reporting alive and sounded decidedly more upbeat than previously.

    Great to here

I had it on the car - i was listening to that afternoon shift in the car - but the stand in bloke - Jamie somebody - former Eagles ground announcer thats his claim to fame - he was talking to Waltham about Africa for ever and ever so i turned it off

But good to see Ernie is back on deck - and hopefully there is lovely picture in full flight of a pacer  at GP in Sat West - with his highlights report of the meeting

Back in work but not quite ready to race just yet.

Still at home, recovering quite well, attending to more things each day and appreciative of the many expressions of concern.

Perhaps back at his desk at The West by the end of the month.
