Hoey was terrible and finished 67th. Basically last of the weekenders. Johnathan Vegas holds off all challengers in the end to win by a shot,.his 4th win on tour and first after coming back from injury/surgery.
A very lean run this year comparitiviely to previous. It's a tough grind at the moment.
The Olympics is this week then the Wyndham Championship to round out the year before the FedEx Cup playoffs.
Le Golf Nationale hosts and the field is a cracker, given the format of the event and the qualification criteria. Only the US have 4 competitors as they have qualifiers in the top 15 in the world whereas the rest of the countries do not.
Australia are represented by Min Woo Lee and Jason Day. I will say I'm a little disappointed that Cam Smith is not there, but due to his LIV commitments he has dropped in the world rankings which is the primary criteria.
Most of the big dogs are playing but the field drops away pretty quickly with some more obscure names representing their country. The US team is headed by Scheffler and Schauffele while Rory, Rahm, Niemann etc etc all are representing.
Schauffele successfully beat all comers last Olympics and the way his year is going a repeat wouldn't surprise. A lot has happened in the last 4 years with the rise of Scheffler and all the LIV stuff.
Le Golf Nationale boasts a tough setting with plenty of water to keep the players on their toes. This is an individual event but I would suggest that soon the format should change to a teams component as well, like alternate shot or best ball. This would certainly allow more players to compete now that the sport is established in the Olympic setting.
The men start Thursday and the ladies start next week. I'll be betting in both events and have found some value away from TabTouch this week
Men's - Jon Rahm ($14.20). This is a boosted price from $13 and is as short as $10 elsewhere. He got back into the winners circle last week after playing great for 3 days. I watched the whole last round and he was flushing it in the UK on LiV. He nearly effed it up on the 17th hole with a tough 3 putt but after the last few starts (Open/LIV) his year is well and truly back on track and I think this is the time to get him at a good price.
5 units at $14.20 collects 71 back.
In the ladies I'm going for my girl Atthaya Thitikul ($16.40). Winner 2 starts back, she just missed the cut at the Evian Major after finding the tough part of the draw. She only just missed and she has the potential to get hot on the course stringing together multiple birdies. Case in point, her win in the Dow championship contained strings of birdies, especially in her Sunday 62 and was 40 shots better than he LPGA championship score.
5 units at $16.40 returns 82 units.
Lastly, have to have a crack at the double at $15 and $13 ($195).
And just like that, the golf gods send a big one finger salute to me with Hideki scorching ths course and sitting at -8. You couldn't actually make this up.
Rahm was -5 even with a few bogies on the card then just put one in the drink on 16 and takes double. Geez this is hard work
Round 2 in the books and we have a 3 way tie for the lead. Xander, Hideki and Fleetwood all sit at -11 after Hideki let them back into it with a long putt for double bogey on the last after finding trouble off the tee and then putting one in the water.
Next in line is Rahm at -9, lurking as ever and has that look in his eye. Only one bogey on the card today and was knocking them close , bodes well for a competitive weekend.
The Aussies faired well today. Jason Day sits at -5 and is playing solidly while Min lit it up today shooting -6 to now sit at -1 after a very disappointing start yesterday.
Set for a cracking last round in the Olympic Golf this afternoon. Jason Day the best Aussie hope, he faultered with a couple.of bogies late after setting the course alight early.
Rahm and Xander tied at the top with Fleetwood one back. There are a host of big dogs with 4 shots so the leaders will have to shoot 67 at least to secure a gold as there is bound to be a 62/63 out there from someone.
Absolute meltdown. Rahm with a double on the par 5 and is now two back of Fleetwood and a charging Scheffler who is 8 under for the day with 2 holes to play.
Round 2 in the Olympic ladies coming to a close and Thitikul has finished at -3, only 5 back of the leader at -8. The leaders have tumbled somewhat and the cream is rising to the top with Korda and Ryo Lin making a charge on day.
The Wyndham Championship starts tonight. It has been delayed by 8 hours so still time to get your bets on
I've fallen in a trap and convinced myself it's Cameron Young's time to win. I'm going to hate myself after round 1. He is a silly price at $29 in this field. 5 units here to collect 145.
This is Min Woo Lees last chance to win a regular tour event this year and cash my 1+ win bet for the year. He's a chance but he always puts in that one bad round which you cannot do at this level.
Here are my Draftstars lineups this week
Cameron Young Cameron Davis Min Woo Lee Hadyn Springer Jordan Spieth Ben Silverman
Cameron Young Davis Thompson Max Greyserman Victor Perez Eric Cole Ben Silverman
Cameron Young -3 overnight in a delayed round 1. Leader is Hossler at -10. Round 1 has been suspended with light issues and some players have only completed 9 holes. Looks like a Monday finish again.
Conditions are soft and anything less than -6 is disappointing. The winning score is going to be -22 so he needs to get a move on.
In the Olympics, Thitikul has been quietly handing around and avoiding any big numbers. The leader is KO and Metreaux at -9. Thitikul only 3 back and with the amount of water on the back nine anything can happen (as we saw last week). Hannah Green rallied.onnday 3 with a 6 under 66 and that included 3 bogies. She caught fire on the back and sits 6 back at -3. Great effort given she was 11 back after 1 hole in round 3 as she started with a bogey.
Could've been worse. Imagine being on the "in form" Greyserman. He holes out from the fairway for an eagle 2 on the 13th to jump to 21 under. He plays the last 5 holes +5 including a quad and a 4 putt double to lose by 2 shots.
Greyserman, flying after 13 holes and an eagle hole out, gets him 4 clear with 5 to play.
Then has a quadruple bogey 8.
Birdie.
Then 4 putt double bogey!
Winning is hard, on and off the course .
Cameron Young is just a non winner. Was equal leader in round 3. Then customarily shay the bed.
One of my fantasy teams grossed me back 4th place and $246.50. Something back for a battler. And that was with 5/6 making the cut
Ironically, Greyserman winning gets me at least second, if not the win overall
It's been a grind this season! But we March onto the playoffs, which starts this week at FedEx St Jude. Fond memories of Lucas Glover winning for me at $91 last season.
I like him this week on the back up. Reminds me a bit like Glover last year, he was heating up till the win and then sustained it. They might put Rai on the clock this week though given his slow play last week.
It was the playoffs that got me in front last year. Hoping for the same this year
Week 1 of the Playoff is the FedEx St Jude, a field of the top 70 will fight it out to try and advance each week, based on FedEx Cup points. Essentially the bottom 15 or so need a very good showing to go to week 2 which is the top 50
All the big dogs are there, and in a reduced field scenario the odds are horrific. Scheffler leads the betting at 4.50 from Xander at 8.50. Rory is $10 most places.
Last year Lucas Glover won two weeks in a row finishing with this event at $91.
I'm steering away from the top dogs with the following for 4 units to collect 55
Aaron Rai $34. Sepp Straka $67 Davis Thompson $67 Min Woo $81
Will.also be playing 5 x Fantasy teams on Draftstars this week.
You can put your life on Hideki next week at the Open.
I've never seen a worse putting performance from him. Today alone he missed at least 3 putts under 3 foot. His 1 foot miss for bogey on hole 2 (his 11th hole) will make him miss the cut. Absolutely sickening
If he is statistically in the top 100 this week in putting I will be very surprised.
And wouldn't you know it. Puts a new putter in the bag this week after the Olympics and leads by 5 shots going into round 3. He has gained nearly 7 shots on the field with the putter alone.
Just unbelievable. If you dont have your ear to the ground every week then you are missing out. Genuinely believe had I known this information he would have been on my list.
Anyway, punters lament! Looks.like we turn our attention to next week.
This week we head to the BMW Chapionship to be played at Castle Pines.
The top 50 in the FEDEX Cup standings will battle it out, happy with the knowledge they have qualified for next seasons Signature Events.
Those in spots 31-50 need a good week to break into the top 30 and make it to Eastlake for the big $$$.
Last season, Hovland absolutely exploded on Day 4 and came away with the win, en route to winning the whole thing.
He has found a bit of form and a good showing would not suprise at all.
Rory seems disinterested until Eastlake. I think the odds refelct that at $15 and willing to give him a pass. Scheffler, while thereabouts as usual, looked very frustrated by the putter and his approach. He wants it bad i feel after giving up the lead he last two years and with an unassialable lead going into Eastlake may look to conserve some energy and reset before the big one.
I really like Xander this week and to go and win the whole thing. He is a different beast these days and he is going to Eastlake with the best record of them all. He just fell short last week after nearly snatching it from Hideki. He is in career best form and will be there again.
As mentioned above, Hovland is tracking well and looks to have regained something.
One more I have my eyes on is Wyndhma Clarke, who by all accounts is very familiar with this part of the golfing world and again, he showed a bit last week, especially in the last round.
Xander $7
Viktor $21
Windy C $31
Play these three for a return of $4.50
Sticking 20 units here at $4.50 for a return of 90 units

Not fairing anywhere near as well on my ventures in to AFL draftstars but you know you learn more from a loss than a win apparently

Have also lobbed I to Hannah green at $30. Another 2.5 units here. She is the better of the Aussies in my opinion and she is in great form.
Total 7.5 units for the ladies.
Update -119 units with 7.5 alive
Wyndham Championship this Thursday as well for the last PGA tour event of the season before the playoffs. More soon
Prolly win by 5 now
Wednesday start and they are into the tournament and the girls look like they are struggling on this course compared to the blokes.
Hannah Green +2 through 9 holes while Thitikul is at Even par.

Young through 4 holes is at -12 and is looking at a short eagle putt on 5.
