Not enough updates still had not updated the o.o.e when I looked earlier today, Ashrun still down in 41st - 45th in various lists. How hard is it to have all in one graphic a list of the horses current position AND the known jocks at this stage all in one place.

Order of entry is updated I think. Ashrun at 23

Thanks PC I was just curious where he had lobbed.

    Hi Thunderstruck,

Hope you're well. I got Ashrun at $101 and $51 - both bets made on Bet356. Ability wise he probably lacks some in terms of comparing him to the main contenders but he will drop to 51.5kg in the Melbourne Cup, has already placed twice from 3 starts at 3000m (in Europe) and ran in the 2020 Melbourne Cup....finishing 10th...only 4.8 lengths away form the winner Twilight Payment. Two things were against Ashrun in 2020:

    1. He won the Group 3 Hotham Stakes (2500m) on Victoria Derby Day to get guaranteed a spot in the Melbourne Cup, however this meant he had to back up into the Cup 3 days later, and according to this article it flattered the horse: https://www.racenet.com.au/news/geelong-cup-result-and-replay-amades-blowout-win-20231025

    2. During running in that 2020 Melbourne Cup, Ashrun was 20th at the 800m mark, 17th at the 400m mark and ended up running 10th, so he really flew home and finished well, he carried 53kg in that Cup....3 days prior, he won the Hotham Stakes and carried 61kg.

Probably what's against Ashrun is his lack of ability but also he is an 8 year old. But he hasn't raced much (due to being off the scene with injury).

We will have to wait and see how he goes in the Cup. At the generous odds he is worth having a few dollars each way and also its a credit to the team at the Maher/Eustace stable for getting him back from injury.

Hey mate, I couldn't agree more and I did the same, though I sat on my hands for a day and the price went at most corps I got $101 @ Dabble a less well known and fairly new Corporate player.

This price is very good I feel also, it's unknown if he could possibly win but he has some advantages this year as you point out.
Nice 13 day break till the cup this time, drops 5kgs and though you could question the bunched finish and Amade winning at Geelong he will be further improved for that run.
Great effort for him to be back racing at a high level and only 17 starts so very lightly raced due to said long absence.

I'm also on Virtuous Circle at $110, he lost some cred in the same race but may be better at and also drops 4kgs.
So, two spec chances at big odds and you just never know what can happen on the day.Bonus is not much money spent but will get a very good collect if a jag were to happen.

Full disclosure I also lunched some $$ on Goldman who I backed for the place, he went backwards fast the further he went into the prep and rightly so the pin was pulled, those are the risks..no complaints.

Francesca Guardi is now also out, similarly to Goldman his form disappeared and is off to the paddock.

    For Thunderstruck and anyone else...

Keep this link safe and refer to it. It updates live / as soon as it can in regards to Melbourne Cup Order of Entry.

It has been reflected today to show that Francesco Guardi is out of the Melbourne Cup.

Danny O'brien said pre race he wasn't sure if the old boy Vow And Declare would run in the cup, needed to run well tonight
I thought he did enough and stuck on real well off a reasonably tough run and post race it seems he agrees.
Pretty much confirmed VAD will have another crack and drops to 53 kgs this year good to see, I'll always have a soft spot for this big beautiful chestnut.

A few disappointing runs in the Moonee Valley Cup...you'd think a few will come out of the order of entry for the Melbourne Cup.

I see United Nations is 32nd in the Order of Entry...

Zahara decided to ride Without a fight just Maher having a joke about sacking him
  • ThunderstruckThunderstruck    7,621 posts
Wow I thought he had committed to Gold Trip, MC win last years news for him..anyone see that clip of his yank missus when interviewed post the CC? Fair sort to be honest..

Zahra Rode 4 winners was on fire all day, so maybe the rail path was the way to go but i didn't think he gave GT much of a chance.Perhaps a wide and sustained run would have cooked him at the end of the day, plus I'm only a grandstand jockey.
A little sidenote, Bet365 offered a boosted $2.25(up from 1.44)for him to ride at least ONE WINNER lol

They Don't lose anything with Jmac on, he knows how to get a high weighted galloper home in the big one.

Looks like United Nations is just going to miss out PC.Unless a few late ones don't turn up or he wins the Archer on Sat.

    Not necessarily Thunder.

As Falcon highlights there are numerous lightweights. Any more and it could have been a very much glorified Apprentices' Cup  :D   O'Brien ensured his entries maintained light weights Mulins pair look well treated especially Absurde but Vauban is a very handy type and also a talented Hurdler..

Don't see the 46kg weights of yester year not even a 48kg....some of them, mind you, couldn't win with 38kg ....but to have a runner is just about what its about.

Mick Price was very impressed with Vauban who is working very well I read.Gave the stablemate a fair beating for what that's worth.
Reason I'd like to see United Nations get in Slip is it might see Carleen Hefel get a ride in the race given they were happy to put her on in the CC.

Surprised that Duais didn't head this way.

Might just back a few of @SLIPPERGOLDEN tips and have a few mysteries as usual. Been lucky last 3 years with the old mystery bets.

Great to see you post Bomber. You and a few others including Rio seem to have semi retired from the forum these days but hope you still continue to chip in.

Having said that I only contribute as regular as I do because I am not on any other forum including Off Your Facebook, Twatter, Instatwat, Tinder, Grinder, Finder, Minder or Tik Tok Wok

Back to the Cup and don't dismiss Breakup who will be better suited at the 3200. I presume Lane will stick with it and not break up

Still giving Soulcombe a big chance, surely won't miss the kick as bad and I read the blinkers are coming off also so their trying to get him a bit better re gate manners.

Lane could indeed do well with Breakup whom is yet to nab a Melbourne cup out of the big three in Victoria.

Could be on a high too 3 days after a potential Golden Eagle win in Sydney.

Updated Cup Order of Entry following Interpretation's Bendigo Cup win - moves to 24th. Also Interpretation has not recoeved a weight penalty for the Melbourne Cup....will carry 50kg.

The winner of Race 2 at Flemington, G3 Archer Stakes (Hotham) at 2500m gets a guaranteed entry into the Cup.

Who do you like of the 5 with a win You're in chance PC?
Toppie probably has the class but 5 kgs is a chunk o weight to concede to a few others.Interpretation gets bounced still if one of these horses win I assume.

My blackbooker Speak is in the race, Moroney scr him from the Bendigo cup.Not a cup contender this year but goes ok and could be a sneaky upset chance in this contest I reckon.Maher/Eustace will be cheering for it i'm sure.

Billy Egan will pilot Vow And Declare whose 4th tilt in the cup has been signed off.

The old boy is going pretty well I'll probably have something on for nostalgia but he also isn't hopeless with 53 kgs.

More Felons was criminal after little luck not to finish closer and indeed challenge to win the Tote Ebor at York and right in the finish first up in Geelong Cup. Another with hurdle form. Trainer and Jockey not bad either. Great each way chance at about 20s
