Markovina, obviously you are aware Sestich also loved to have a punt when he was riding as well and agree he was a good money rider who also demanded a good sling for it.

Would struggle to find a jock who hasn't had a bet whilst riding.
Look if Damien Oliver had a 10 grand bet on the horse he was riding in that race - then even though it is against the rules - i couldnt give a Rats **** - and it would be totally immaterial in judging his character - it would be a non event and quickly forgotten

But to have that 10 thousand on another runner opposed to his horse is totally different - as Simon Beasely the Bookmaker said - its a shocking look - and who was the big  gallops owner - Terry someone i think - he had a Trotting background - Aust Gold series or something- i think he immediately sacked Oliver from a Melb Cup ride - and he said he jockeys - you hire them slowly and fire them quickly

If you had Jockeys and Trotting drivers placing 10k bets to win on horses that were opposed to them in a race - then racing/pacing would have no integrity whatsoever

You'd think racing journalists would do some research before releasing articles. Horses have won two Group 1s at the 4-day Flemington Melbourne Cup carnival long before Pride Of Jenni came onto the scene.

Rogan Josh (1999), Let's Elope (1991) and At Talaq (1986) all won two Group 1s during the Melbourne Cup carnival - the famous Mackinnon Stakes/Melbourne Cup double. In fact that double was achieved quite a few times.

    Article link: https://www.racing.com/news/2023-11-11/news-review-incredible-jenni-creates-history-111123

    First paragraph of article:

"Pride Of Jenni became the only horse to win two Group 1 races for the Flemington carnival when she again led throughout to capture the Kennedy Champions’ Mile"

    And Empire Rose - 1988

The first paragraph in the article about an hour ago said:

"Pride Of Jenni became the only horse to win two Group 1 races for the Flemington carnival when she again led throughout to capture the Kennedy Champions’ Mile"

Now that first paragraph has been changed to:

"Pride Of Jenni has capped off an incredible week and etched her name into the history books, winning two Group 1 races for the Flemington carnival when she again led throughout to capture the Kennedy Champions’ Mile

    ^ she'll get off with a fine i reckon.

mark zara, just thinking: with his %ages over the carnival he could easily take a year off.
also seeing some of the wives over the carnival, they would be very high maintenence.
the amount wagered at the calling of the card made the eyes water. makes you wonder why obviously very wealthy people are throwing so much dosh around.
apart from zara the money those top riders are earning must be up in the millions each year....probably need it with their glam wives.
