Cox Plate 28/10/2023

East Coast Racing
Not necessarily my favourite track but i love this race and its a very good edition this year.

Many are now on Romantic Warrior almost chips in and at his best I understand this opinion, trackwork reports are he has been going great and has improved significantly post the Turnbull(where he was beaten 4l but ok).May well start pretty short it seems.

Who do we like?
I think Militarize can run a race, can Zac Lloyd the boom apprentice stamp his rep and win the big one, yes i believe it's quite possible.Lloyd has been finding some strife lately in races maybe even getting targetted by his cohorts and overall its fair to say he has been a bit out of sorts whilst getting plenty of top rides.
Up to him now given the big and justified boom the kid has, must continue to improve and rise above the ups and downs no better time to do this than Saturday. It is a MUST to stay one off the fence from the low gate, or could they roll forward? not his racing style and though 49.5 can sometimes see tactics change, i don't think they will go down that road.

Fangirl is in hot form and smoked Mr B do both get a strong 2040m? I see Hayes Inc. have thrown in the hard track card, want the sting out or a good 4 at worst.Track will be a little choppy by then that's for sure but they believe low draw and a track that has more give usually will suit.

Hope Gold Trip runs a cracker but not sure about him after the Caulfield cup? stable reports are he is 100% sweet so it wouldn't surprise if he won and it would be an amazing effort.Might get an ok price too with the heavy support for RW.
Maher has stated he will need everything to go right and i agree back in distance, i actually like him for the big one even with 58.5.Undoubtedly will run well this weekend.

Should be a great race and some good bets present on the undercard I reckon(some are fairly short), hopefully we get a bank for the big one.
Two worthy of mention, R2 Blue Stratum if it gets a run.(watch his jump out, very impressive)
R6 Skybird if their running on she is very smart and that is not a strong group 2 race at all.Micth "Attrition fame" Freedman trains her.
+1 -1

Forgot to mention Alligator Blood who was super last time when queried at the trip.Must be a top 3 chance.

Gold Trip by length if the straight. Nothing like positive thinking and self interest!

I don't like the Valley from a punting point of view however attended once many moons ago (great seats and viewing) and backed two winners from two bets.

For what it is worth I think Victoria Road can win and the lightweight at odds King Colorado should not be left out of calculations

Mate I might need to put your King Colorado in my quaddie(of course I'm backing up, would be rude not to)if I want to seek some value.

Looks a fairly skinny first leg and 1 out is the way to.go leg 2, so the last 2 legs are where maybe a little value can come to the fore.

In the lucky last whilst Maharba looks very hard to beat i do like a couple at double figures and 20+ bucks respectably for a repeat jag result.
Loose On Gin :D and a speculator the maiden galloper Revalene is the other.
Race 19 of the carnival they should be swooping(hopefully)for an upset.

*Just noticed they have elected to run Revalene in R1 at the Valley tonite..this looks a pretty good lead.

Other jocks will want there best undies on as can see Gold Trip best chance of winning will be if goes to the outside & let rip at the 700m Definitely has a habit of boring in,. tends to lose a bit of interest if gets crowded to his outside Zahara's record. is terrible regards to careless riding
Mr Brightside barrier gives him every chance to lob in the box seat behind Zaaki & A.Blood
as its debatable can he run strong 2040?.
The colt Militarize last three starts has formed a habit of missing away, which he can ill afford from gate 3
So going for Fangirl from Romantic Warrior
  • ThunderstruckThunderstruck    7,696 posts
Yep the Warrior I'm warming to as well
Your Spot on STG Zahra will serve it up to some of these doubtful at 2040m and I'd love it if he won, that Turnbull win was super laying in probably lessened the margin he would have belted them by.
Militarize I still think has x factor definite top 3 chance.

    Romantic Warrior
    Gold Trip
    Militarize

Skinny early quad legs so I'll throw in that visitor Victoria Road(Shinn could jag it him on is the only reason it goes in)Fangirl too could win I suppose & I always discount the Blood so he goes in too making it a 6 legger.

Fantastic race and incredible quality field. Fangirl was something beaten after finding no room in the final 300M. Hong Kong winning is a great result in terms of International publicity.

If only Duais got clear air, ran out of room. Thats the Moonee Valley track for you. Well done Romantic Warrior. Mr Brightside and Alligator Blood were game.
  • thefalconthefalcon    20,294 posts
i still reckon mr. b. won....gee it was close.
geez jmac was a bit ott coming back to scale, crying, punching the air etc. BUT we don't know what he was on for the win, its not unusual for mega rich chinese to give a large amount of the prize money to the jockey. same as the mega indians (i could tell you a story there).
i saw david hayes in the background.

Remember the assistant trainer of Romantic riding winners in W A Ben So. HIs winners 11 were on outback tracks leonora. Junction . etc.won a double at Leonora on Freedom Tower who was bred to be a superstar By Peintre Celebre outta Golden slipper winner Burst. Ben So went back H.K. rode 157 winners gave it away in his journey to becoming a trainer which will take 10 - 15 years if his lucky

Hats off to old Zaaki who did the bullocking work breezing, to be beaten only 1.5l was a great effort.

Duais stiff arguably could have won if OIlie could have moved to the outside of RW..imagine if he had won, scene's would have been bigger than Super Impose's win 31 years ago.

Fantastic insight on The Wrap today, I'm a Micheal Walker fan anyway just because he seems like a champion bloke but gee he dissects a race very well.

If your not sure Antino was a moral beat, watch this show.

Was up to $13 all in for the Champions Stakes her next run, I swear they have nearly all been winding her in since earlier today now is as low as $8 @ Tabtouch, bet365 and Sportsbet & $9 at Ladbrokes for the race. There are a couple that probably won't run in some markets.

Anyway Worth a spec at $13 so I had a bet at Dabble again who are still that price.

I backed Duais for the Cox Plate. She ran well...finished 4th. A shame she could get clear running.
