So why waste $24.7 million of Industry Funds propping up the pre-existing white elephant for the benefit of 320 members and end up with an identical 800m track that no one goes to.

That surely is the point....if GP want to redevelop their track, that is their business, do whatever they want with it but fund it themselves, don't go emptying the Industry Grants pot on so few beneficiaries when there is a desperate need for an Industry Training Centre and On Course stabling on land already owned in the population growth centre of Pinjarra/Mandurah/Peel for the potential benefit of multitudes of participants.

On what basis did RWWA approve of the funding for the redevelopment? What is the expected return on investment on those funds? Do they honestly believe that this is the best way forward, that it will lead to a renaissance in the Industry?

The product doesn't and won't draw "bums on seats" or produce magical turnover boosts and a return to paying its way because there is something terribly wrong with the product (see above). It is not attractive to patrons or punters as demonstrably indicated by the disastrous and falling share of overall turnover.

If it is not an outdated venue and is marketed correctly you will get people.
At the moment we have an outdated venue with no marketing at all.

agree to disagree on that the younger generation that you want coming through to the industry whether it be as participants or patrons on track are more than happy to watch it all on their phones in the comfort of there own house than venture to any track, the exception is the country tracks where it is an actual event for the local communities

I’m not going to go back through my posts but I am not about on course attendance. Not sure where I posted anything about that. I’m about increasing opportunity for new trainers and getting turnover up. Until you do that the rest is not worth worrying about.

Its along time ago mate - but some of the things which use to happen - do they still happen  ?

I ived in a nice suburb in Perth at the time - and i looked forward to 2-3 times a year - in my letter box via direct mail free admission tickets for an upcoming GP meeting - and they would have a bit of promo on the meeting as well - very appreciated those free tickets

There was allways on a Frid night meeting a pony trot race - George G the course commentator use to call the race - thats how alot of young participants get involved in Harness Racing - plus its a bit of entertainment for the crowd

Do they have any playground equipment on course - for the young children - like trampolines and that sort of stuff - so any one who comes with young kids they are catered for

Sung this blokes praises before - the ex President of the Pinjarra Club when they ran night meetings - the bloke bred the great Preaux Chavilier - and he did anything to attract a healthy on course crowd - BMX Bikes were all the craze - so he had 3 brand new ones to give away - well you can imagine the mob - had the great FRK on track drawing out the 3 winners - a little bit of excitement

Now here is an ignorant suggestion because i havent been to East Perth for yonks - but you have Optus Oval  next door with say a 50k strong crowd - the game is over the night is still young - can you somehow hook them into GP - Shuttle buses or whatever - and package up a ticket deal - free bet - complimentary drink - you will get a crowd - they will lose more on the punt their  - and you might attract new punters to Harness Racing

My impression and i might be totally wrong - but WA Harness racing has a real stale feel to it  ( and thats nothing to do with the participants or horses ) re the Administration

And i reckon the white flag of surrender was hoisted up that flag pole a fair way back

just to be 100% transparent I totally agree the product is stale and there is next to no promotion of our weekly metro meeting im just saying I don't blame the actual track for this it's more the administration side that is to blame you can go race on a state of the art 1600 metre track if you don't promote the product your not going to draw eyes to it

Just make GP a 900 metre track and forget about the back straight development.
