I live half a km from Ascot and it feels a lot hotter than that apparent temperature . No breeze to boot.

The BOM forecast is for 39 max with 38 at 2pm reducing to 37 by 3pm.

However looks like wing change to wsw has come in earlier tghan forecast and after a maximum so far of 36 at 11.06 is now 34

That info was for Perth. At the airport it is currently 37,6 with wing still nne

Perth Metro 33.9 at 11.50am and Perth Airport 37.6 at 11.50am. Ascot racecourse is half way between those 2 weather stations.

Theres now a big difference between the city and the airport temps, as Tony stated earlier the day the breeze in the city is a different direction

The airport temp would be far more accurate a guide to the temp at Ascot

Maybe Ascot should have its own weather station. Canterbury has an official BOM weather station.

What was the Goldrush as a race formerly named ?

For there to be talk of The Railway losing it's Gr 1 status is essentially an endorsement of my comment that it is becoming downgraded by the entries of Gr 3 and Gr 2 horses from the East being the profile of horse considered capable of winning.
What a dumb comment.  That is because it is a handicap.  Look at the last few years fields for the Epsom, Toorak or Doncaster.  They are always full of group 2 and 3 horses that are capable of winning it.  Very rare a genuine group 1 horse wins these with say 59kg.  Genuine group 1 horse often win them but usually before they are established as genuine group 1 horses.

Do You expect Alligator Blood to come here and run in the railway with 62kg?
Dumb comment ? So all handicaps are for lessor qualified horses and only SWFA is for Champions ?

Well I guess they had to make a call and the participants want them to make that call early.

Should be Alsephina coming late if Pike can manage to not get trapped on her again. Be interesting to see how Tuvalu handles the heat.

He's a good W.A stallion. Today got his 2nd G1 winner. He's only had 5 horses to win at G2 or better. Still yet to have a stakeswinner outside of W.A. His 2yos this year are his 7th crop.

Twilight meeting was brilliant. Should be every week in summer. Shorter breaks were a success

I was there for the Railway and can confirm it was bloody perfect timing to have the race that late. Hopefully it becomes a thing

Congrats to the Parnhams. Racing is a good place when good people win the big races.

Karlis Karma $14 out to as much as $31+ late

Must have lost 2 legs heading to the parade ring. And ran according. Another lesson in betting early in the day

Probably not relevant but perhaps it is also a sign of Bob's drop off locally. In the past, he has always had one or two promising types heading into the mix, especially targeting the Kingston Town / Northerly.

As Gilga may have implied, there are plenty of group 1 races in name only.

Far too many G1s in NSW and VIC now. The fact that we now use terms like "genuine Group 1" tells you that it has gone to pot. It either is a G1 or it is not.

There's far too many Group 1 races Australia wide. Full stop. The current Australian racing model (past decade at least) is in my opinion poor.

Then there is these pop up races....these pop up races for example....The Gong....worth $1 million. The Gold Rush. The Golden Eagle. Just on and on and on.

Australian racing seriously needs a major overhaul. One Governing Body to oversee all states/territories. Railway Stakes - a time-honoured race ..lots of history ..but it hasn't been a Group 1 race for years. Sad actually.

But that's just the tip of the iceberg what I've said above. Another issue - Australian racing isn't strong at 1600m+ in terms of depth in numbers for years and years....again that's sad. Australian racing has become obssessed with speed....sprinting. the 1990s for example...great era at 1600m+.....

I've been vocal on social media about Aussie racing for years and of course I get shot down the "Great Defenders of Australian Racing" as I call them...but honestly they are in denial.

Anyway it is what it is.

    100%

I was at home but had the sky channel app up on the tv. Good 10-15min coverage leading in to each race, race run, 5 or so mins after then only a 5-10 min lul before on to the next race lead in.

    Was perfect.

Agree was brilliant maybe this is the way to go does free up your day then you can get to the track for a few hours the younger generation seemed to enjoy it.
What about the turnover any idea on how that would go with twilight meetings?
