I can’t still understand why they haven’t developed Lark Hill with the hot weather on the weekend 40° and above. If you look at the weather in Mandurah maximum 37°. It really is a no brainer but obviously they don’t want to spend the money

psycho if the predicted top of 37 doesn’t change before Sunday I reckon they will go ahead at Pinj . Even though 37 at Plnj feels like 40

How about running the 1st at Ascot at 8am, 11am in the east, surely they could negotiate with Sky channel to have short gaps as very little racing on at that time, last race 10.30am ?

Abbys most of the larger stables are just finishing around that time. Not to mention the southern corridor trainers ie if you train in Bunbury and had a runner in the first you would have to be leaving home around 5 am

Most of the larger stables have staff smart enough to get the work done without the trainer looking over their shoulder.

The falcon said, the pub tabs arent open, good point, but i would say the majority could bet on their phone/laptop/computer/ipad if they had too.

It is only a suggestion, and I think the trainers, foremans, staff would like the rest of the Saturday off.

If the industry want lights they need to fund it themselves. I.e. needs to come from prizemoney like the animal welfare fund they have in other states. Rwwa standing idle doing f/a waiting to win powerball to do anything, if it takes 5 years to raise the funds then so be it, the whole point is starting the ball rolling. Not sure how you will sell this to the sw and nw participants who prob wont ever get to run a horse under lights in the metro but someone has to do something.

If they use the last electrician I used to wire my house, they should be able to get them in for around 40 million

I would say with the constant improvement in LED lighting you could do it with solar/battery/inverter systems.

Cost wise no idea but it would be bloody expensive i would think getting in pits conduits switchboards etc around the infrastructure of a race trsck given you cant just go out there and dig a trench across the track so individual solar poles could be cost effective.

I have been envolved in something of thst nature previously but that was just to provide adequate lighting to a walking/running track for a few hours each night to provide the output/quality of light you would need to run a race meeting.

Issues, Swan River Trust at Ascot and Developers at Belmont Park.

No room at Ascot unless you encroach into river land, cant see the Developer allowing large light structures in front of million dollar apartments (when they built) especially when down the back straight and over near old stalls they own the land right up to outside rail.

would be hard ask, but a professional might make it work.

Pakenham was $12 million. Collaboration with State Government and Racing Victoria. Probably funded by sell off of old Pakenham racecourse which was developed for housing. Therein lies the message, should have sold Belmont in entirety and funded state of art facility.

Interesting that the Picnic races at Kojonup were not afforded the opportunity to race earlier, after I believe asking RWWA to look at that. That info I gleaned from a friend, a Polo Clubber who organise the day, he said they still had a good crowd of about 600 attend the day, but would have been double with the races on a normal weather day, if they had been allowed an earlier race day start Saturday, possibly around 900 , the heat would have driven a few away.

I was one of those that deferred in the end, 41 degrees out in the middle of nowhere, as good as Kojonup race day is, but without the racing, just did not appeal to me. Hope the club get a bit more luck & a bit more "support" next year.

I think you will find that the actual towers are the cheapest part.

We have just put some up around our football oval and I was heavily involved.

Footings for the tower and the correct LED lights were the most expensive part. Footings had to be a ridiculous depth and width to our previous ones. And we are nowhere near a river. So, I would imagine you would be doubling ours just on footings. It cost us nearly a million to put up our lights to illuminate a footy oval to the correct AFL lux lighting standard. So have a guess what you think it would cost lights this day and age what it would cost to get to the correct Lux to race.

I laugh when I look at Toowoomba and their lights 50 metres of light into 50 metres of darkness.

My guess would be 18 million. The dumb thing is. We can all guess. But has someone actually asked from the Turf club for a quote from the people that do this. And there are plenty of business's that specialize in this as there are govt grants left right and centre getting handed out.
