More of the same s*** today. No real game plan. Too many average players taking money under false pretences. If the Eagles want to get Jack to 300 games play him as a sub and give him 10 mins at the end of each game. Having Jack Williams warming the bench for 3 and a half qtrs is staggering. Simmo looking after his mates at the expense of the fans and the teams future is negligent at best.  :-&

Homer gone, will there be any improvement Deto?

If the Eagles play their cards right, they could just about tank their way to another Number 1 draft pick and I don't think they'd have to try too hard either.  I'm sure Dean Cox would appreciate it .

We may get the obligatory sugar hit when the coach gets moved on. But next year will hopefully bring renewed hope and improvement. There should be a number of mid tier players who would be s***ing their pants and should start testing the market. No names but their initials are Rotham Jones Petruccelle Witherton Edwards x 2 and I am sure I have missed about a dozen others.

"When did you realise your time was up Simmo"? asks the alleged journo. Pause....."About 300 articles ago" was the none to subtle response.

Reid fanboy Woodcock no doubt at home today typing his application to coach.

The sad reality was that Simpson's reply was greeted with laughter, the assembled mumbies that it was aimed at oblivious to the pointed dump on the crap they produce each day.

Meanwhile, whilst Simpson sits there facing the music, Great Leader Paul Fitzpatrick, the faceless board members, the recruiters, the strategists, the ubiquitous "football department" (strange thing to have in a football club), the list manager and the dozens of other failed flunkies who have contributed to what is essentially a broken footy club, escape unscathed as the circus rolls on.

Think you may have misheard that JJ. He said after your 300 article. He is the senior coach why shouldnt he be asked questions about his teams no show on match days. Or do the media just let that slide and only report on the good games. He gladly accepted the cheque that went with the job. So accept that you are going to be asked the hard questions after pitiful performances they have put on of late. Something tells me he would not step aside and away drom his paypacket for next year unless pushed

I may well have misheard Spin but I have no skin in the game. I couldn't give a monkeys about West Coast one way or the other. And I am not doubting that Simpson was well paid and all of that.

But Woodcock and friends are a perfect fit for the tawdry nature of the Hardly Normal Times, publishers of unbalanced opinion, peddlers of pointed biased agendas and producers of a standard of journalism that is well below all previous low tide levels.

Gotcha questions are not journalism especially from self appointed experts who write "exclusives" based on supposition from "sources within" and guess work all designed to produce offensive front covers as per today's edition. As a newspaper, it is trash and with no competition, it continues to get trashier and trashier. Simpson was well within his rights to deliver a fairly gentle put down but even that ruffled the self indulgent feathers of the editor to the point that he had to defend his dismal organisation within the confines of it's morning editorial.

would have the qustions asked been any different from other journalists. And i am not sticking up for the West Aust just saying

Yeah, probably not but Geoff Christian, Ted Collingwood and John McGrath would have had (a) far more knowledge (b) far more respect and (c) much greater dignity in the manner in which they went about their craft.

Thanks for the memories Simmo. Especially 2018. Time to move on.
Time for BIG COX. Time to take out the trash. Time to get this club back where it belongs.

I see Simpson has graciously declined the offer to coach the side one last time this weekend.

It is a measure of just ham fisted the organisation has become that they would, without talking to him about it beforehand, spring it on him in a packed news conference with the entire playing list present. Even if he had been spoken to about it, he indicated very clearly that it was an unresolved issue.

What on earth were the management thinking? It could be read two ways, either completely inept stupidity, or the relationship had become so febrile that a public backhander was thought necessary?

Deto, perhaps the start of taking out  the trash should start with the entire board being sent on permanent gardening leave. As a major commercial operation in WA, it would seem they couldn't run a bath football wise.

Just on Adam Simpson i wanted to put my comments under the John Todd photo , but my blooody computer wouldnt let me

The main point i was going to say was i think all football coaches are massively overated , all comes back to the talent on their list

Simpson did win a flag so very good , had a touch of luck that the Mighty tigers got beaten in a huge upset in that Prelim otherwise i reckon Rich would have won 4 flags in a row , But Simpson lost 56 of his last 65 games including 7 - 100 point plus defeats , whats he own 2 Hungry Jacks franchises and Josh Kennedy said AS is building the biggest and best house in Trigg with magnificent views , i think W/Coast have been very good to Simpson

But all coaches are so overated , i will give you a great example , a mate and i , i reckon it was 1985 , we drove to Collie on a Sunday afternoon to watch a pre season practise match which was hyped up in the media a bit , because it was between Essendon the reigning VFL Premiers against Swan Districts  i believe the reigning WAFL Premiers

And Ess annihilated Swans by over 100 points that result had nothing to do with the respective coaches John Todd  and Kevin sheedy , instead it had everything to DO with the quality of the playing lists a glarring example of that is " Shaker" Baker an ex Swan Districts star was wearing an Ess jumper in that match

A couple of other things i can remember about that game , Sheedy had got them that break through flag  , they were garbage for the previous 15-20 years , like they have been now for the past 20 years , anyway hes walking around the outside of the fence ( spectator side) with 3-4 Ess powerbrokers , Egan was one of them , i had a bit of cheek in me back then , so when he walked past me with all his Ess big shots , i said to him , When are you going to  coach Richmond , he walked another 6-7 metres , then he turned around and answered me , shook his head and said No , but i couldnt hear the rest of it

One other thing i can remember about that game , we went out on the ground at both breaks to listen to Sheedy address , and at the 3qtr one , and  Ess were a mile in front probably 70-80 pts and it was only  a pre seaon  practise match , but Sheedy used the word barstaard , he said  quote " If any of you barstaards drop off in effort look out  " see senior footballers back then were treated like men

Tom Hafey  4 time Rich premiership coach summed it up best , they said Tom what is the most important aspect of being a scuccessful coach , and Tom said , good players and plenty of them

I agree Jay Jay. The board disrespected the fans at the expense of looking after their mates Ie Simpson and Nesbit. Simpson got given a year longer than he should have and Nesbit should have gone a year earlier too. Eagles membership base means that there is no need to worry about losing members because the waiting list for seats will always mean they will fill their quota. No pressure. The cost of merchandise from the club store is outrageous but they know that xmas and birthday gifts will always keep the sales flowing even at the exorbitant prices. Winning AFL matches does not seem to be that important to board member cricketer Justin Langer and others otherwise the tough decisions would have been made earlier.

West Coast v Bris , currently h/time , pretty rugged game , ground a bit  wet etc

As the h/time siren blew they had a shot of Jarrad Schofield in the coaches box , ex multi flag winning coach at Subi , the team i barracked for back in the day in the WAFL , so thats a plus , however the big negative  i didnt know he had all those horrible undisciplined tattoos all over his arms , no put a line through his application please  and give the job to Dean Cox or someone else

3 of the ins had good games . Hopefully they stay in next week. lachie Neale the only other player to have more tackles than Zane Trew . Surely his 30 possession game gets him a run next week

i know not many of you get the west but on saturday was a letter from one p*ssed off at the current state of the game. he's old school as he mentions playing with sprigs on grassless fields.
he remembers wet, cold saturdays when the drop kick was a beautiful part of the game (when did it disappear?).
he doesn't know the rules any more and not because there seems to be 36 rovers on the field at any one time plus 8 more on the bench.
he reckons its being "shoved up his nose" 24/7 52 weeks of the year. adams departure was overexposure on steroids.

    thoughts?

    re thoughts

I watched some say 15-20 minutes of the 1st half of Eagles v Lions , but i turned it off simply because there are still far too many players around the ball and with the ground being a touch wet it was physically impossible for players to get clear of packs so ball up after ball up

The AFL have improved the game with the rules to open it up when a goal is scored when play resumes in the centres , but then quickly packs form , thus if your like me and hate sitting down and much prefer to be up and about and moving - then watching 1 qtr of AFL maximum is just about my limit

It's a game for greyhounds and those that tick the boxes of the sport scientists to prove they can run x metres in x seconds and take x minutes to recover before doing it all over again. Very few actual footy players on the paddock, just runners that get to the contest first to stop the ball and wait for help. Its horrible to watch

JJ i see your least favourite newspaper has picked Deanmill , who i think you may have some connection to or have posted about them in the past, to win the lower south west league this year. How many teams are there in that comp?

Morning Spink, yes, the 'Mill is very dear to my heart. Nowadays, I am no longer on committee or anything, have done my time as Secretary, Treasurer, Coaching etc but still involved as the Oval Mowerman, Timekeeper and very bad cook in the kitchen after training on Thursdays.

7 teams in the LSWFL....Manjimup Tigers, Manjimup Imperials and Deanmill, Southerners (Pemberton), Bridgetown, Boyup Brook and Kojonup (reigning Premiers). Amazing that a small town like Manjimup can sustain 3 clubs, all with League, Reserves, Colts, year 8/9's, year 6/7's, year 4/5's and hordes of Auskickers. Colts competitions are almost extinct throughout country WA and clubs are folding left, right and centre. But somehow, participation rates down here surpass anything anywhere in WA, with almost zero assistance from the AFL cash cow. It is very tribal down here, family connections to clubs are set in stone.

Boyup would be red hot favourites, some very good locals and a lot of quality imports this year and looking very strong, Kojonup, Imperials and Deanmill all very solid and pretty even, then Bridgetown who have fallen away this year which is odd considering the huge population boost they have had from the Greenbushes Mine, Southerners (struggling for numbers with an ageing town demographic) and Tigers who are winless bar an "inherited win" when there was a very minor paperwork infraction for which the micro managed league officials turned into crime of the century and changed the result. On the upside, Tigers have a very strong undefeated Colts side (and when I say undefeated, no one has got anywhere near them for two or three years), so they should recover going forward.

Deanmill won over at Kojonup last week by a point but play Boyup this week. Boyup at their best will win that contest and the flag based on what I have seen. But the GF is at Deanmill this year, so if the 'Mill can get to the final, funnier things have happened. Upsetting that The Worst has put the mocker on us, it is a tragic pile of slop is Kerry's trash rag.

By the way, every one of Deanmill's players is "homegrown" even though a couple are back playing with us having played at higher levels elsewhere.  The amount of money that other clubs both in our league and in the"Money Pit" South West League fork out is unsustainable. When imported players in Bunbury are paid amounts 3 times higher than the official WACFL sanctioned salary cap, and up to 6 times more than WAFL players, you know the balance and sustainability is all wrong. Everyone it seems knows what is going on, except the 200 strong crew out at Commission Headquarters in Tuart Hill.
