Might as well get a 2024 Melbourne Cup thread up and going. This thread can be for all discussions relating to the Cup.

Sevenna's Knight won a Group 3 3000m race in France last night by about 8 lengths, I watched it. Currently paying $51 for the Melbourne Cup.

Past winners of the Prix de Barbeville who have come to Australia include Marmelo and Dunaden. Sevenna's Knight....might head to Australia.

$51 on Bet365. It wasn't even listed on sportsbet so I told them, they just sent me an email and they have included Sevenna's Knight in the Cup market and have priced him at $41. On WA TAB he has been priced at $34.

How do I post screen shots on here? Cos Sevenna's Knight is actually listed twice on Sportsbet for Melbourne Cup markets . At $15 and at $41. Not sure what's going on at Sportsbet.

Sevanna's Knight - $41 with Sportsbet. The duplicated one has gone.

Also, WA TAB had Sevenna's Knight at $1.01....must of been an error....a system error. Anyway its been fixed but now Sevenna's Knight isn't even in the betting market.

Earlier reports stated they may plan for next year but as it is owned by Terry Henderson and OTI Racing I believe it will be here for the Cup this year

Very slooooow stayer Mark Twain, I’d be surprised if he finished in the first half of the field.

with the cup 5 months away its way too premature to be debating the ins and outs of it.

Ascot Carnival winner and Bahrain champion Isle of Jura may be a visitor for the Cup though untried at 3200

the overseas contingent will not be very strong. a) the cost of coming out not only the horse but 2 or 3 stable hands and b) the stringent vet tests at werribee that could rule the horse out.
its a gamble and a half.

Its a gamble that would be exciting to have though falc......the horse has earnt enough money to contemplate a cup start well why not take the punt and go for it. Not something that is going to be achievable very often.

    Cheers

English and possibly any euro participants are vetted by the same machine they now use at Werribee before they embark on a cup mission i thought

The horse I selected in the recent English Derby Sayedaty Sadaty (5th) is a terrific purchase and will be a success in Australia. Great chance for the Cups this year and even more so next year.

Northern Hemisphere 3 year olds have a good record in the race Slip

Yes Aidan O'Brian had one finish third in a Melbourne Cup but this horse is being given something more to do before arriving in Oz. Not without a chance in the Cups but the season to follow could be a great one.

Winx wasn't a great name. Leilani was.

The worst Melbourne Cup winner name has to be Shocking :D

Sevenna's Knight ran in the G1 Grand Prix De Saint Cloud in France (2400m), ran 2nd last. That probably puts to bed any chance of running in the Arc - not good enough. We wait and see if the Melbourne Cup is now on the cards.

Aidan O’Brien suggests Tower Of London and Grosvenor Square could both be Melbourne Cup-bound.

The Curragh Cup was won by Vintage Crop (1993), Rekindling (2017) and Twilight Payment (2020) the same year as their Melbourne Cup victories. Vintage Crop (1995) and Red Cadeaux (2011) won and then placed down under.

    Update

SEVENNA'S KNIGHT apprentpy pretty much confirmed not coming after being lapped last start.

Ozzie Kheir supposedly circling BIRDMAN as a potential purchase to bring out for the Cup. NH 3yo on the rise a proven type out here and he looked reasonable closing for 3rd in the Queens Vase behind Illinois who will be one of the favourites heading to the Leger.

Would be leaving VAUBAN at home if he was mine after he was shown up in the Curragh Cup. Legit 50s on the day type.

MIDDLE EARTH runs in the King George this weekend against the likes of Auguste Rodin and Rebels Romance. Wont be winning but if he was strong through the line in 4th or 5th you would be happy.

Race 5: Lexus Stakes (Hotham Handicap) now to be run on Makybe Diva Stakes Day instead of being run on Victoria Derby day

Winner still gets automatic entry into Melbourne Cup.
