The fella would have been Warren Scott who actually was Trainer reinsman great fighter for country harness, for a time was president of Northam Harness, had ServiceStation in Coolgardie, he inadvertently opened the door for greyhound racing, with a member of parliament also definitely was committe man of W A C T A.

Has been mentioned here probably under racing the Kalgoorlie sting regards delayed race broadcast 5 minutes after race had been run, Mark Ruly bookie said I knew it was a rort when a detective was trying put a large on.

Just on Warren sure he went toe to toe with WATA, over different opinions, on harness.

No, a decent question. Not entirely sure, will find out on Sunday but David Goulden, Brett Postans, Dennis Dale off the top of my head.  Not sure how many train from Gloucester Park.

Kellerberrin trainers with starters at Kellerberrin
    Dennis Dale - 2 starters
    David Goulden -  4 starters
    Tony Allington - 1 starter

    Mreredin - Brett Postans - 2 starters

Yet Kellerberrin has 76 pacers going around at their meeting,

While the heavily populated peel area where all the horses and trainers are supposed to be,
have only  53 pacers going around on their doorstep at Pinjarra, the very next day.
    .
Dont forget Pinjarra races for  more money in most races.

To me that shows that participants, will go to where they think, they can earn,
     regardless of distance.

I noticed in the Issues Paper that they included Peel (which runs from south of Thomas Road Byford all the way down to Waroona) in arriving at their figure of 71.44% of all horses are domiciled in the Perth & Peel Region.

What are the stand alone figures for each region? I imagine the "Perth" figure would be small in comparison to the Peel.

Your last sentence is spot on - they will go regardless of distance - if there is something attractive prizemoney wise , and if they think they can earn or win

Parkes Frid night 60k race - part of that excellent NSW Country Cup series with bonus conditions attached

And Parkes is 355 kilometres from Syd , yet J Grimson taking 2 their Swayzee , goes allright that horse $1mill won in prizemoney and a handy 2nd to Leap to Fame last start in the 400k Blacks a Fake , and his other horse Nerano also ran in the Blacks a Fake - yet he is making that 350k trip to Parkes

I think if WA Trots bothered to have an excellent similar Country Cups set up and you had say a 60k Geraldton Pacing Cup , and Geraldton is 400k from Perth , i think you would get a pretty slippery field , and better still because of that it might create plenty of interest and excitement , and just maybe more people interested in WA Harness Racing

We are going to Kelliberin because of the 100 year celebration and a desire to support the club (in a fairly minor way). Even the normal meetings are always a good day. I attended GP the other night and it was a little bit depressing as opposed to Kelleberin which will have a decent crowd and likely to be an excellent day. I suspect quite a few people will take their horses for the same reasons.

I seldom post in this section but had to laugh yesterday when I saw a twitter post from racing radio to the effect that GP chairmen was interviewed saying that there was an exiting development for GP.
Played the item out of curiosity to discover that the exciting development was that the GO gurus had secured in the "Ladbrokes Ultimate Drivers Championship" in Wueensland next year,
    :-*

The "Gloucester Park Gurus", whoever they may be, have apparently stumped up $20,000 to buy a slot in the Queensland Ultimate Harness Drivers Series. It may be actual GPHRC money but I wouldn't have thought so. I think from memory there are twenty races and the slot holder chooses their own driver and there is $100k for the winner. I imagine it is supporters of Jnr who are backing him in to win.

There is talk of Dexter Dunn and maybe Tim Tetrick competing. Doesn't seem to be a bad concept at all but hardly an "exciting development for GP", exciting for the chosen driver for sure and some exposure for WA Harness I suppose but fixing the sagging external wall or replacing a few washers on leaking toilet cisterns, pruning the few remaining roses or weeding the gardens, now that would be an exciting development for GP.

The GP Gurus and the GP Owners Association may have used money from the maintenance budget.

Thats where Cam Bown and Radley and a few other well remunerated Trotting administrators should be

And im talking Parkes NSW , official attendance last  night 4000 , and if you want proof of that watch a replay of race 6 and thats what the commentator said

That brilliant Carnival of Cups that NSW have got got , they had top class horses like Swayzee , however i am almost certain  they have a music concert afterwards or during - thats why they draw the big crowds

Thus Bunbury a few other WA Country clubs should do that

And you have to move with the times so what is stopping GP , now you have the nice weather and no competition from the football , say every 3 weeks have a combined Trots meeting , music concert , Trots are over by say 8.30-9 then the Music with the bands takes over , youve got all the restaurants and Bars open , the grandstands and grassed areas will accomodate plenty , have a big screen out in the middle of the track

NSW do that type of stuff , WA sit on their aarse and do nothing

Told years ago Bill Whitfield won four races one night at Kalgoorlie, collecting his stakes he handed one winning stake back to the club secretary.

Just reading about the reduction in Vicbred bonuses (5k re first win)Wondering if we are heading that way once track rationalisations are completed (Dropped a mare at a stud yesterday and was impressed with the number of horses of all types that we saw there. Cant help but think if that will be the case in a few years)

I have a Mare that is currently racing and although I had no plans to breed from her I did have cause to contemplate it yesterday. Back to my original stance now after seeing what is happening in Victoria.

If we are looking to grow turnover I have an idea.

What did we have 3 or 4 RWWA harness employees come down to GP for the Oaks barrier draw??? They can't be too busy - sounds like they have a bigger staff than BHP.

How about we remove one, chanel that money into a harness odds compiler at tabtouch and start getting odds up 24hrs before a meeting - offer a decent product!!! It's not like you have to accept a bet at that time anyhow.

Having previews with no odds in nonsense. We are not alone a catch the Vic preview some sat mor ings and its the same.

Hi Gilga, I think that they have no idea about framing a market.. Having said that its not an easy job.. but now if its incorrect they can/will  cut your bet.. They should employ ex bookmakers and learn.. Most of the employees probably struggle with %..Cut the % take and turnover will increase but its out of their hand for that..Now back to the form..

Remember, most punters who want to bet a decent amount , their accounts are heavily restricted .

Only losing punters can get on or bowler accounts.

Yes i'd definately be outscourcing for the position.

It's funny everyone seems to throw up shade at gp for producing a large amount of short priced favourites , completely killing the interests of punters across the country from investing their hard earned into our industry, but if you look at last night at Northam it's clear to see gp isn't the only track to throw up such results
  • JayJayJayJay    7,924 posts
No matter where the races are held, it is the product that is broken. It is the product the punters aren't buying. Just 10% of overall turnover is what harness is generating.

I 100% agree that was my point all along everyone was sitting there using gp as the only example of this, it's not the case it's a state wide thing

GP has the highest turnover and so it should but the problem is GP has the highest loss.

but in the grand scheme of things turnover across the board in this industry is putrid yes ??? What I'm saying is we all shit can gp when it comes to leader bias and short priced favourites, which intern turn people off punting , well it's not just gp serving up those results, it's a state wide issue predominantly on all the tighter tracks 850 metres or less
