Well as they say, the operation was a success but the patient died on the table
After 3 rounds, Aldrich Potgeiter, the ultimate bomber, leads the field and started at 100-1. In ide tidying that this course was a bombers paradise, I completely overlooked the young South African.
He holds a 1 shot lead going I to the last round from Campbell and Jaeger.
My best is Patrick Rodgers, a whole 8 shots back.
Potgeiter has been in contention a few times this season, his best was at his home at the Nedbank Challenge earlier in the year, where he faulted down the stretch to lose. Looks like a race in 3 chances this evening unless there is another 61 out there by someone.
Some absolutely elite viewing right now with McIlroy and Min Woo going shot for shot at the top of the leaderboard. Scheffler not far back at -5 and Morikawa is heating up at -7.
The playoff was won with Rorys opening tee shot. He absolutely monstered one down there and asserted his authority straight up. Unfortunately for Spaun, his water ball was the nail in the coffin.
The Rory Masters bet is on track, now into as low as $7 in some places.
This week is the last week of the Florida swing at Copperhead Course for the Valspar. So named for the 3 hole stretch called the Snakepit, many players have been fatally bitten in the past.
I've had two pre tournament bets
Justin Thomas $17 Will Zalatoris $31
Both are playing well, it's definitely time for JT to convert one while Zalatoris has completed his return from injury and bar his last 5 holes in round 3 last week was all over a winner.
Justin Thomas, cruising after 15 holes with a two shot lead, bogies 16 and 18 while Hovland birdies 16 and 17 to give up his lead and lose by 2 shots, a 4 shot turn around in 3 holes.
Well after 3 rounds, its Min Woo Lee who leads by 4 shots at 17 under, over Tosti at -13 and a host of players 12 under, including Scheffler.
While you can never count Scheffler out, it seems Min may have an insurmountable lead.
Followers will know he has been trending in this direction, last start at the Players he lead after 2 rounds but had a bad Saturday to eliminate him as a chance.
He has been in this position a few times and looks to have gained enough experience to finally get the job done tonight on the PGA tour.
A Min Woo win will be certainly bitter sweet, as I have been on him a fair bit in the last 12 months for continuing disappointment, but it'll be great to see another Aussie victory of the PGA tour with the Masters just around the corner.
Min Woo ended up holding on by 1 shot from Scheffler, again proving how hard it is to win out on the tour. He moves to 22 in the world and will tee it up at Augusta next week Meanwhile we are over half way through the Texas Open. A lot of the big names missed the cut and they are just starting round 3. I will have a crack at a few after round 3 is done and then it's off to the first Major of the year , The (Rory) Masters
Had a look after round 3 and with Brian Harman 3 shots ahead, I just couldnt be rrrsed parting with any $$$ for anyone. I was tempted to have a small go at Hoge, who wouldn't surprise me with a win with me being on him recently. At $10 he wmay be worth a punt, but I'll stay out of it this week and limber up for the Masters.
Harman wins the Texas Valero by 2 shots in the end. He breaks a drought since the Open of 2023 and it was a big surprise. He has been playing horrible. The weather helped him this week.
And here we are. Onto the Masters. The build up is incredible and there is Masters on the Range every night.
I've been bullish on Rory since backing him in January at $11, he's won Pebble Beach and The Players and last start in the Houston Open, he put in a great run finishing up there with a T5 finish after being absolutely nowhere all tournament, one that reminds of a nice 5th in the Cox plate en route to a Melbourne Cup.
These days, it's always the best seeing all the great players from everywhere come together. The split has actually elevated the majors even further in my opinion.
Outside of Rory, all the regulars plus all the LIV guys will be fighting it out. Scheffler is favorite at $5 while Rory is now $7. The rest start around $14 headlined by Morikawa.
If there is another person I think could give this a shake at a decent price is Xander Schauffele. He is at an unbelievable $22, a two time major winner last year, who always performs well at the majors. He has been injured earlier this year, but his last start showed he is right back where he needs to be to be in it come Sunday. While his finish might look nothing out of the ordinary, he was #1 SG in Approach to the green, not just for the Valspar tournament, but it was the number 1 Approach display by a golfer this year across all professional tournaments in the world. If he can hole a few putts he will be up to it to his ears on Sunday.
Well we are half way through and it is an absolute elite leaderboard.
We've already had all the Rory emotions. In rd 1, he was cruising, had a short putt at 13 to get to -5 with a reachable par 5 coming up. He duly misses and drops 4 shots in 4 holes to shoot even par and be 8 shots back.
Such is his resilience, on the quick turnaround, he came out early and was very patient, 1 under on the first 9 and then went berserk on the back nine, carding a bogey free 66, for round of the day and only 2 back now.
Rose leads at -8 and Bryson is at -7. Scheffler lurking at -5 and by his standards was a poor middle part of the round. He he had some luck as well with an errand second shot going long in the the thick bushes, only to pop out green side where he then chips in for an amazing save. He cannot ever be discounted. My other pick Xander, has made the cut, but is a way off them at -2 and would need something semi special on the weekend from himself and the others to stumble to be in the mix. But he isn't impossible being 6 back.
The weekend is shaping up to be a salivating contest of the heavy weights. I watched all of Rory's second round and he is dialled in. It is his time.
Makes you proud to be a Aussie when you see a young fella like Min Woo Lee being interviewed after the last hole . Just takes one or 2 generations if you have a red hot go to live the dream .

A week early.
He is currently 8 under through 12 holes and unlucky not to be 10 under.
No time to contemplate anything this week. Might wait till half way to have a go.
The Arnold Palmer is next week and will be worth the wait.
These guys are good.
All 5 units
Scottie Scheffler API $4
Alejandro Del Rey Joburg $36
Alex Cjeka Cologuard Classic $21
Chan Kim Puerto Rico $26
Bryson Dechambeau LIV HK $11
Good luck and good watching
I'm backing Collin Morikawa, who is playing the best golf of his life without winning..
6.5 units at $15
Having a crack at the forecast with Scheffler as well.
2.5 units on each combo at $101
Total put 11.5 units
Great viewing!

JT only 2 shots back. He made the cut on the number, after playing some great yee to green golf but was burning every putts edge.
He shot a Saturday round of the day 65 to be right in contention and hopefully break a winning drought for himself, but importantly myself.
Good luck JT
Winning is hard
Absolutely sick bag beat
One of these two should win and ensure the perfect preparation into the Master in 14 days.
You can arbitrage both at around $2.80, or $3.50 if you have a WA Tab account (probably more on Betfair).
Hard to suggest either don't win. Scheffler is Scheffler and Rory comes off a Players win.
I've decided to take these two into a few of the girls over at the LPGA. I've settled on Nelly Korda,Jeeno Thitikul and Lydia KO at 8, 8.50 and $12.
1 unit per combination is 6 units.
Also, some same tournament multi love
Scheffler/Rory outright winner
Scheffler top 20
Rory top 20
Spaun make cut
Mon Woo make cut
Finau make cut
Bridgeman make cut
1.5 units at 19.90
Good luck and good viewing. Only 2 weeks till The Masters
